How long will the 20.00 price last?

Also found the Lets Play’s available online for this game are very helpful as well.

Downloading as I type this!!!

All the special prices and bundles will last through the release promotion, which ends on July 5th.

Is this a limited time only kind of sale or a pricing adjustment?

With all of this ‘DW is better than breathing talk’, I am tempted to give it a go during the next gaming lull. However, from the few videos I have checked out, I am worried that it is just too Sim-y for my tastes. To aid my pre-purchase research, what is a good Lets Play type deal for DW? Also someone mentioned it was featured in Three Moves Ahead, which episode?

And for all you Wargame folks I see lurking in here, expect to get pestered about two games now.

I don’t think it’s really sim-y, but with the automation, it can be as simple or as in-depth as you wish.

Also, this guy has the best Let’s Play’s I know of - http://www.youtube.com/user/Das24680

Episode 59.

Oh Plimus, if you are going to charge my Australian Paypal account in USD, why are you first converting to Australian dollars, and then back again? :P I end up paying $20.02 instead of $19.99 - this is an outrage!

IIRC this was about the base game. DW has changed a bunch since, and perhaps their concerns about UI and such have since been addressed.

This is a release promotion, which will last for about six weeks, ending on July 5th.

Das’ let’s plays are a great place to start, which Brian already linked.

Here are a couple more:

The game is really what you want it to be to a significant degree as far as playstyle, once you understand the flexibility of the galaxy setup options and the various in-game automation and policy settings.

Well the expansion looks like a lot of fun so far. Although I zoomed in on a ground battle… and don’t seem to have any way to unzoom. So I can’t see anything.

It’s less of a “zoom” and more of a “making the window a little bigger or a little smaller”.

You click the same button to zoom and unzoom, you can also use the “X” to close the ground combat window.

Erik, can we expect to see any more work done on the interface scaling? The selection box is a good start but it would be lovely to have a larger empire tree as well.

I certainly hope so. :-)

That is what I was afraid of… that part of the window is off the screen so I can’t get to it.

Darn laptop. :)

Yikes, that’s quite odd. Does your laptop run at least 1024x768?

We’ll need to add a hotkey for that then.

Yes, it runs in 1366x768. Not a game breaker by any stretch, just have to remember not to enlarge the ground battles for the moment.

Played around for an hour or so as a pirate in the Shadows era.

Pretty tough going: I used what little cash I had to create two fleets, one for raiding and the other for defending the home port. I took a mission to defend an independent planet in another system for a while. That went well as no one else showed up there to attack it, so the reward when the mission ended was like free cash.

Then I learned that very planet (or system, can’t remember which) was looking for smugglers to smuggle them some silicon (maybe breast implants there are illegal). So I searched my galaxy map for silicon, found a planet in another system that had some, and sent my raiding party off to raid me some silicon. Except – they arrived only to find another band of pirates had already staked out that system, and our fire power was no match for theirs. My entire fleet was wiped out quickly. Damn pirates!

Now, with no regular source of income, I’m in a bit of bind, as I can’t afford to rebuild that fleet anytime soon. Anyway, good fun, this expansion.

Yeah, I ran into the same problem, but I like it. ;-)

Quick question. I’ve never played the story events for the game and the expansions, always getting caught up in the sand box game. Now I’m thinking I want to give it a go. Should I enable all the story events in setup or should I start with the base game and finish that first, then enable shakturi, rinse and repeat?
