I am always asked to build ships…
But perhaps I am missing something there. Will need to look into that, I think
It also could’ve been stolen I think from a spy. At least that’s what comes to mind next.

In a game I started last night my advisors kept wanting to build ships, but when I brought up that screen there were no ships recommended.
Before that I played through the basic tutorial and then continued that game. I bring you “A short history of Free Shandar Harmony”.
We Shandars are reaching into the stars again at last like the ancients of old. We have come into contact with a couple of bands of murderous pirates, but our glorious fleet has smashed both of their bases. The galaxy trembles before our might. Suddenly word reaches us of the discovery a group of pirates that are were thought to only exist in the old stories. No matter, the glorious fleet shall dispatch at once. Word is arriving from … (contact lost)
The arrival of a legendary group of pirates at the beginning of the game brought about a quick end.
Yeah, vyshka, others including myself are also running into that ship advisors problem.
It does feel like the ship advisors make their decisions by taking turns being blind folded and throwing darts.
Perfectly modelling real world policy makers… :)
I’ve discovered (while trying everything to increase my control of a world to 100% so I could build the pirate fortress) that if you raid a planet that you have a hidden pirate base on, you will destroy your own pirate base.
So far I am finding it nearly impossible to keep a hidden base intact long enough to even start building a fortress. Considering how long it takes to build a base… you would think it would do a better job defending itself.
Your base strength depends non your faction. I think Smuggler gets a bonus and Raider gets a penalty.
I’m thinking that the next pirate game I play I am going to turn off the ‘Independents can become empires’ option. Very annoying to have the world you are focusing on suddenly sprout an instant medium spaceport and small fleet.
Still enjoying the game a lot. Just need to figure out how to handle the later stages as the empires start getting bigger and better tech. The fact that you can steal tech on raids helps a lot, sometimes you get the whole tech, not just some research towards it.
Hi guys,
A few quick notes - the advisor messages that don’t correspond to your economy are something we’re working on. This is related to quick changes in cashflow or cash on hand and the advisor not catching up in time. I expect that to be resolved in the next update. Pirate facilities are currently far too weak - we broke their resiliency not long before release and didn’t realize we’d done it (whoops). That should be addressed in the next update and include a fix for your own raids wiping out your own bases (whoops again). Some pirate playstyles are definitely more focused on base building - until the next update, you need to really defend your bases carefully as any attack can destroy them right now.
Turning off Independents can become empires definitely helps pirates too. :-)
Regards,
Anyone have much luck with smuggling? Since you can’t direct your freighters I find that even when I have lots of the requested resource they don’t deliver the goods.
Good to hear about the changes coming up.
Another oddity I’ve had happen recently is regarding building spaceports/defensive bases. Every time the constructor is chased off from building a base, it escapes, and then when it comes back instead of continuing construction on the started project, the constructor starts building a new one.
So you end up with a bunch of partially completed bases on top of each other.
Another bug, if you get too many colonies under your control as a pirate, the diplomatic screen for your faction is filled with a list of all of the colonies that breaks the boundary of the screen, and there is no scroll bar or other way to see the other faction information at the bottom.

Picked up Shadows this weekend and started a new game. I probably only got through 5 years so far, but it is going fairly well. I decided to just play a classic normal game to get familiar with the game again. It still seems like some things have changed, though, so it is fresh and new in some areas when dealing with pirate factions. I like how you can put missions up for bid by pirates like asking them to attack a target (I don’t recall that from before).
I found a few fields of damaged ships and have had constructors repairing them for what seems like 1-2 game years and they still aren’t completed. I recall them taking a long time before, but am not sure if this could be linked to the repair ship problems found in the patch notes above. Two of the ships are capital ships, though, so maybe they take a really long time or I am short a resource or something (if repairing takes resources).
Now I just need to figure out how to finish off this faction nearby and try to take over his colony. I don’t recall ever playing a game long enough to fully figure out how to do that :).

It takes a while to repair those ships, longer than just 2 years, and it depends on the damage from what I can tell. If there are other empires floating around (besides the gold silicon form guys - forget the name), you need to dedicate a construction ship to each one that you want or else the other may begin to repair then and claim them. If you play slow tech these are pretty critical, both from a tech perspective (destroyer and below) to a defensive perspective (cruiser and above)

Thanks for the feedback, mok. I will keep at it.
I was also fortunate to find a planet with gases I can put a mining station at and hopefully fuel up my constructors in the area. They burn up almost half their fuel getting out there where the ship fields are and now I hope I can keep them fueled up along with the combat ships I have in the area to clear the kaltors out and protect the fields from invaders.

Is there a way to queue up multiple jobs with one constructor?

How do you totally eliminate a pirate faction now? I think I wiped out their constructor and their two star port bases, but it still says they control a couple colonies somewhere and have two ships left. They’ve been a pain in my ass, and now for satisfaction I’d like to completely eliminate them, but how?
