Cool cool cool. :) I too am excited about an easier method for folks to get their hands on the game.

I find this a notable improvement. I never used area weapons before because they were good at killing my own ships

  • epicenter of area weapons is no longer centered on firer. Instead area weapons now fire at target and the damage shockwave expands from the target (similar to area gravity weapons)

Super duper awesome!

Never mind. The sale is posted in the bargain thread. Also, the game has not been updated since August.

This is a very relevant place to post the sales info, Joe. I don’t read the bargain thread.

Erik Rutins posted this bit of information here two days ago:

Just some additional news on this - we expect to finish the next Shadows update by the end of this coming week. It should be released early the week after, so you all will have it in time for the holiday.

Given that the last patch indeed is a long time ago I hope this one will be fairly significant.

Just curious, what are you looking for? Is it new content? I haven’t hit any bugs.

I have many of those reported in here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=792

I also still hope for some kind of a better parallelization support to help deal with the late game performance problems. It is especially no fun to maintain a fleet of carriers. Once they launch all their fighters it starts chugging.

Edit: Punctuation is key. The above sentence was meant to read like this: I have [hit bugs]. Many of those [were] reported [by others] in here…

Still waiting for bigger font ;)

Ah, thanks for the link. Also, yes to the bigger font.

Well, damn it Brian. For the ‘bargain’ price of $65 dollars I’ve got the full suite and I’ll see what this thing is all about.

So can someone tell me what Distant Worlds Universe is?

Yaaaaaay! Enjoy!

I’m not sure, first I’ve heard of it. Might I ask where you saw it?

It was mentioned on the Matrix forums, they were recruiting modders to beta test.

edit: Looking for Modder Volunteers to test the next release

double edit: beta signup

This DW Universe thing is what’s keeping me from buying the whole shebang right now, since I think they’ll be releasing everything in an updated Universe edition fairly soon.

Gosh, just don’t let Tom MC hear you.

Yea I really hope that the rate I bought DW at with the holiday sale isn’t the bundle that they were supposed to working on. I want to be as courteous as I can be but the barrier I had was feeling that if I had just bought base game I wouldn’t be getting the intended experience. I think this is holding a lot of players back.

I think it’s time to start folding those expansions into the base product. I think about DW in comparison to Crusader Kings 2 and I wonder about how each company is handling expansions. At least with CKII the UI and general functionality is improved regardless of what expansion level you’re at.

Even on sale, Distant Worlds was the most expensive screensaver I’ve ever purchased. I’ll try it again some day, but after 10-15 hours I was unable to find anything entertaining or engaging about it. I hope you have better luck than me, Tom Mc. If you do, please report back to the thread, maybe it’ll help things click for me. :)

Huh, so Universe is the modding-focused expansion they talked about a while back? Or is this Universe thing something else? I can’t find mention of it anywhere. I believe they did say the modding expansion might be the last expansion they do for the base game before moving onto a sequel. Wheee!

I’d do it if they fixed up the tiny unreadable interface issues. That’s the one thing everyone agreed we’ve needed and they just haven’t gotten around to doing :(
