Dizzy Returns (80s retro kickstarter reboot)

Does anyone remember Dizzy?
Treasure Island Dizzy, Fantasy World Dizzy… etc
There were quite a few Dizzy games and I was completely addicted to them when I was a kid.
It was a great mix of platformer, puzzles and comedy.

Here is Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation doing a Lets Play:

The original creators of Dizzy have started a kickstarter campaign for a new Dizzy adventure - it looks quite promising :)

There is also a promising looking indie dizzy-alike on kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/409406442/spuds-quest

Does anyone remember Dizzy?

Yes, I do. I also remember never really understanding why anyone cared about that. Seriously, every gamer I knew way back considered Dizzy above average, ok, or somewhat good - but certainly not great. I blame the Brits.

Monty Mole was better.

As was Magic Knight.

Treasure Island Dizzy was a great AMiGA game.

James Pond (or Robocod, or Harlequin, or Rainbow Island, or Gods, or Zool, or insert dozens of other great platform games on the amiga) was better.

Even the venerable Jet Set Willy on the spectrum was better imho. So yeah, i never got it either.

Edit: ok that sounded too harsh, as Dizzy was a very successful series in the uk, i just prefered the non egg shape ‘heroes’ in my platform games. And i forgot to mention Super Frog in my short example list of ‘better than Dizzy’ amiga platform games (imho).

Yes, this. I never understood why people liked it.

Man, this list really brings home how shitty the Amiga was for platformers. Except for Rainbow Islands, ofc. That game is genius.

that’s hardly outlandish. next you’ll be saying manic miner was “pretty decent”.

or Jack the Nipper.

i heartily recommend this book to fellow spec-chums:
