I wonder if any of the new stuff is better than what mods can do.

Its hard to top names like “Legendary Edition” :-D
Anyways, I’m excited! However much people complain about specifics, no-one quite makes games like Skyrim and Fallout, other than Bethesda.

Lighting is something thats difficult to get in with mods. Also Skyrim’s shadows are particularly tough to work around.
Yes, you can get jaw-dropping stuff through injection with ENB, but doing that is complex and don’t translate between different lighting situations (aka they have to be tailored specifically for a shot in a certain area). At least to my understanding.
Yeah, it sounds like the remastered version will be a meaningful update, even on PC. Thought the release date would be sooner - Oct 28 - waiting for the PS4.5, etc. possibly?

It seems that elder scrolls games release about every 5 years or so. I am hoping the next one will be out in 2017. They really are wonderful games.
I did enjoy the witcher 3, the stories and moral choices were excellent. However, I didn’t like the fact that I was playing a pre-defined character. The developers of the next ES game can sure take some hints from TW3, and hopefully lessons on what NOT to do from Fallout 4.

Even though I’m deeply immersed in W3 right now, watching that trailer reminded me why Skyrim captured me like no game before when I was playing it. I agree with @DeepT, while W3 makes the stories in Skyrim feel simplistic, no game provides the sandbox that Skyrim gave you.
On the one hand, I hope that Skyrim II will provide the open world sandbox filled with encounters and stories as surprising and well written as W3 while keeping the freedom of Skyrim. OTOH, I suppose one reason the writing in W3 is so good is the developers knew your character was predefined and could tailor the writing towards that.

Yeah, while I think the writing in Skyrim could be improved somewhat, they DID have some memorable characters and quests, and it will be interesting to see what, if any, lessons Bethesda have learned in an upcoming Elder Scrolls game. It really is THE best fantasy rpg for me out there, in just giving me a massive playground to have fun in, at my premises, exactly how I want to play!
Weirdly, this is now my most anticipated game this year.
Edit: Ha - I just noticed…I made this damn thread 5 years ago!
Don’t count on it. I think this remastering is to offer something to fans because its going to be awhile before the next Elder Scrolls game come out.
If you don’t mind older production values (of TW1) and non-open world design, you should definitely play them in order. That said, TW1 especially requires having an open mind about some…unusual… design decisions. But it’s still one of the best RPGs ever made. Witcher 2 is better, and Witcher 3 is the best one. But your experience of it will be enhanced by playing the preceding ones (and reading the books, if you want to go real hardcore :))
While I’m excited for this, I KNOW it’s gonna break all the mods I use. Ah well, I’ve spent over 100 hours with one character, no harm in starting another.
Just when I thought I was out, they PULL me back in to play Skyrim!
That’s a famous movie quote.

Apparently mods are forwards compatible (excepting SKSE ones). In theory. I suspect in practice there will be some bugginess involved.
Is there really a Skyrim 2 coming??? Or do you mean the next Elder Scrolls title (ES 6: Somethingorother)?

More Like Skyrim 2.0 opposed to Skyrim 2. I loved skyrim the death, however, I am finally bored of the world. Been there… done that… so many times over. Now that total overhaul mod has my interest, but god only knows when that will be done.
ES6 is a LOOOOONG ways off, according to Todd Howard and Pete Hines.
Insert Vader’s reaction to realizing his girlfriend died.

This news has me thinking about mods and starting up another character. Who has a good mod list?
I think there’s one bit of DLC I don’t have. Need to grab that before Oct 28th so I qualify for the upgrade. That lighting is NICE. ;-)
I wonder if development has, in part, been so prolonged because they wanted to wait until VR really arrived, and were hoping to make V6 the killer VR app.
This is both depressing and exciting. Hope this means an entirely new engine.
It’s always an entirely new engine!
Also: people, stop playing Skyrim!!
