I honestly think they got spread to thin with elder scrolls online.

That’s a different development studio entirely.

I’ve seen a few quotes saying no, it doesn’t top what mods have accomplished. However, now non-PC-master-race folks will get to see a hint of what we’ve had for years. That said, I think “hacks” like the ENB memory stuff will no longer be necessary.

Maybe mods can do this, in approximate, but for my money (which is $5 looks like, never did pick up Hearthfire) being able to just launch this and not have to deal with getting ENB presets working (and working in all areas) and all the other texture updates and the like is VALUE.

I was going to say that I’d like a list of existing PC mods that will match the look of the upcoming Special Edition. But then I googled it, and voila…

I’m not sure how well this matches what the SE will provide, but in my never-ending desire to return to Skyrim one day (this time, really, honest!) this seems like a good place to start.

I hope when Bethesda says that anyone who owns all the DLC can get the upgrade for free, they mean Skyrim + Dawnguard + Dragonborn suffices and I don’t need to waste $5 on Hearthfire. Incidentally, there is already a Steam page for the Special Edition, which indicates an Oct 28 unlock. Fingers crossed that the 1080ti launches around then…

I’d gladly pay a reasonable sum for a Skyrim that looked like that out-of-the-box. No Bethesda game runs hassle-free, but it looks like it would save me a lot of legwork. I’ve honestly never been able to make it look that nice without hours of painstaking fiddling and experimentation. There might finally be an all-in-one mod that does it with a few clicks, but I haven’t looked in a while.

And I just get it for free, as a separate SKU that doesn’t mess up the original, if I just have that and the DLC? What’s not to like.

Pretty sure all the DLC means all the DLC.

Anyone know if there’s any chance the shiny new XB1 version will be able to transfer saves from the 360? There’s precedence with the Borderlands games…

So if we already have Skyrim + all the DLC, we get this shiny new version for free, did I hear? Nice. PC version included?

If you have the pc version with all the DLC it will be a free upgrade. Console players get to buy it again.

I can’t imagine what is more important than ES6 for them and I also can’t imagine that whatever it is "will make sense’ other than, yeah, that was a needless waste of time that delayed ES6 for no good reason. Are there any other open world RPGs due out in the next year or two?

There’s a starwars project that should be out sometime next year, which is open world, and of course Cyberpunk 2077 but thats probably more than 2 years out.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance by Warhorse Studios.
Maybe Elex by Piranha Bytes? Not sure how open world that one is though…
Mass Effect Adromeda by Bioware. Again, not sure how open world this one will be but if DA:I is any indication it might be more open world than the previous games in the series.

All good questions. I actually hope the answer is, “Holy shit Witcher 3. We really gotta up our game!”

As for other open world games, I honestly don’t know of any, but I’m hopeful I’m just forgetting something.

Depressing. I guess my next open world game will be Fallout 4 after I finish W3.

Technomancer!

is probably not that open.

Digital Foundry takes a look at the Special Edition.

Why would they mean that? All dlc means all dlc.
