Yeah, I’m sure it includes Hearthfire, but it’s also only $5. Feels silly to not get a $5 DLC to get the remastered edition for free, even at full price. Hell, it will probably be like $1.66 or something during the Steam summer sale, just pick it up then. That’s my plan, at least.

The special edition isn’t all that impressive to me. It just a graphic update, which while appropriated, is hardly anything to get excited about. I also do not own any DLC other than Dawnguard. I am not sure I want to fork out a bunch of money for a new edition of this game. The only real content DLC are dawnguard and dragon born, right?

Much sadness at the long delay for ES6. Fallout 4 could have scratched that itch, but that world is ultra generic and entirely forgettable.

If you want to go insane-modding Skyrim right now look here.

My problem is while that’s an excellent guide, I know by the end of it something wouldn’t be working right (because I fucked something or just the fickle nature of mods) and almost certainly after all that I’d have no interest in playing anymore. I wish it weren’t so - I’d love a massive .exe I could just run that did all that for me.

Look up “The Journey” mod pack. I think that’s the name. I don’t know if it’s ethically okay to download, because I don’t know if the mod authors’ permission was given, but it looks like an easy to install all in one.

I thought that there may be more DLC packs for Skyrim which were content light, a la some of Oblivion’s add-ons, and was hoping that one didn’t need to own all of them to qualify. But it turns out that Hearthfire is the only premium DLC besides Dawnguard and Dragonborn. So I just nabbed it for $3.04 on Steam, where it looks like all of the Skyrim stuff is on sale for people who want to complete the Legendary collection.

Ill just pick up the rest of the DLC during the summer sale, whenever that starts. I am just really bummed about E6 being so far off.

It is funny as I was just pining to a friend a month ago how badly I wished Skyrim was available on the PS4. I enjoy Fallout 4 so much on my couch, wife sitting nearby, cats laying on my lap, being comfortable… This new edition is just perfect. One thing I wonder - can mod packs made for PC version be auto-converts to work on PS4 or does a mod have to be written from scratch to work on PS4 version?

Almost all mods should work on the console, according to Bethesda.

Oh sweet, even the Randy Savage dragons? OK maybe I will consider picking this up.

lol I think about that mod every time skyrim is discussed

WOW that is AWESOME! Do you happen to know if the same holds true for Fallout 4 mods?

The Fallout 4 mod authoring community gives that a definite no, they have to basically rebuild a FO4 mod to work on a console. There was a big to-do about it with console players basically threatening modders to port mods to the XB1.

Maybe Skyrim is different, difficult to tell. The modders won’t actually know until they try it.

I don’t know about Fallout 4, but that modding community is less mature and Bethesda is still producing content, so probably more reasonable to expect some hiccups in compatibility.

Bethesda is very aware of the strengths of the Skyrim mod community after 5 years though, and doesn’t want to screw things up for it, so it seems like Bethesda is trying very consciously to avoid breaking its mods at this point in its product cycle – some more info at Gamespot here: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/skyrim-remaster-will-work-with-basically-all-old-m/1100-6440942/

Hmm well I can say this having played both – The Fallout 4 mods aren’t as good --generally speaking --as the Skyrim mods. That’s not to say they WON’T be == but skyrim had (has?) more legs so to speak so I don’t think we’ll ever see mods for Fallout like we’ve seen for skyrim. That said: Fallout:NV has a GREAT mod collection.

I am going by Nexus mod manager numbers not that silly weird almost-console oriented Bethesda mod manager.

Confirmed: Skyrim Special Edition on PC will be 64-bit.

That’s huge news for modders.

YUSSSSSSSSSS

Why? I get that 64 bit = more memory, but effectively how are modders being held back right now? I mean, is a mod where it introduces 100 new enemy types or adds a whole new continent to explore on the table now?

It’s all about stability. The more stuff you add to Skyrim, the bigger its memory footprint. Eventually, you run up against the 2GB limit and the game will start to crash.

Also, Knightsaber pointed out to me (and I believe he is correct) no more need for the Script Extender.
