Since you mentioned the “t-word”, compare Doctor Who’s Victorian trio of otherword investigators with what Torchwood made do with in the same era.

Donna was the best companion by far, her time on the show was much too short. She’s also my 9 year old daughter’s favorite companion.

Your daughter has good taste. ;)

Since the return of the show in 2005, they’ve attempted to add a love interest to the Doctor’s story about 3 times now (Rose, Martha and now the hot pixie)…actually it could be 4 times if we count an awkward first season snog between the doctor and Amy that made me cringe. I don’t count River Song as she was more of a guest star and not a companion.

I like my Doctor to be above that (with the exception of a Romana every now and again). Donna was great because she was truly a companion and not a love interest. As such, she could go toe to toe with the doctor and point out his flaws when necessary without having that extra baggage.

I kind of hope in the future they get away from the love interest bits and get back to some fun companions. Although it looks like that will have to wait for a season or two.

Hehehe, “You’re not mating with me, sunshine!”

This video, to me, perfectly encapsulates 10 and Donna’s relationship (spoilers, don’t watch if you’ve not seen the season):

Except that the <spoilers, dear!>…

Doctor married River at some point, didn’t he?

What is with that awful cover of Crash, use the original Primitives song random internet dude!

I like it. shrug

It just doesn’t do anything interesting with the song, and is inferior in pretty much every way. The guitars aren’t as good, the original vocal is way better too, but I guess if you don’t like female vocals that might be a reason to like this version. Covers need to be interesting and different, and bring some kind of neat hook to the song. Live covers excluded mostly, as those are sort of a different beast. I mean they even copy the echo effect on “shut.”

It was for the god damned Mr. Bean movie, what did you expect, fucking Mozart? (insert winky face)

Fixed.

Finished up Season 3, such amazing episodes. The only weak one for me being the Shakespeare episode. My favorite was probably the NYC highway episode. The don’t blink episode was pretty amazing too. And omg the two part finale, sadness! And then The Face of Boe!!! reveal, I was all like :O

Martha has been enjoyable but she is no Rose. :(

I still have Voyage of the Damned left to watch and then Season 4 awaits me!

No talk of Human Nature/The Family of Blood? BLINK?! What the heck man? Those are some of the best of Tennant’s run.

I thought they were both great ! I liked the ending to The Family of Blood with each member getting to live forever in a unique way. :)
I mean the entire season was just brilliant! :)
This season really showed off the jump in quality of the overall episodes. GCI and such looked way better.
Season 4 is the last with Tennant right? I shall be sad when he goes. :(

Kinda. There’s season 4, then several “specials” that finish out his run, which took the place of a regular season.

I was sad when he went too, but Smith is awesome. :)

And yeah, they were great. I did also love the Doctor’s punishments that made the Family of Blood immortal.

Thank God.

. . . oh wait - was that a compliment or an insult?

Martha has been my favorite of the new Companions, but also the one I felt was most under-utilized. She deserved better than to be defined as just the Not-Rose.

Donna always fell flat for me. She just felt like all-bark no-bite until her season’s finale, which was…well, I’ll avoid spoilers and go with “personally unsatisfying.”

This is making me want to go back and rewatch all the seasons again and I only just did that last Spring!

Weirdly enough, Martha Jones gets much better character treatment during her three episode arc in the 2nd series of Torchwood.

Not enough to recommend watching Torchwood for Martha fans, but it’s definitely an improvement over her time on Doctor Who.

The biggest problem with Rose wasn’t even Rose, it was the way the Doctor acted towards Rose, and what was worse was him pining for her for all of season 3 after she left the show. It was just awful. At least with the Ponds it looks like hopefully they got that all out of the way in the xmas special and it wont come up again now.

This is true, and since I have a major crush on Freema Agyeman it worked out quite well. ;)
