Well his kid is 6, maybe Smith’s Doctor would be a bit more kid friendly. Plus the meeting Amy Pond and the whole introduction that goes on in that first episode is really well done.

My kid was fine with Eccleston at 6. He liked the early-series bad guys.
FWIW, I first watched the show when I was that age and just loved it, and it was a heck of a lot more violent and scary back in the 70s. Terror of the Autons did freak me out a bit, however, heh.
I’m surprised at how many of those comments express dislike towards Moffat, and even want RTD back. It really was unpredictable, given the quality of Moffat’s contributions prior to becoming showrunner
This article I think summarizes how I feel about Moffat’s Doctor Who:
Thanks, that was a nice read. I was starting to think that way about the Ponds after their first season: how they became the invincible in-laws of the Doctor, and together with River created an environment where the Doctor was the weakest link. While I was sad to see them leave, I’m relieved that they’re gone.
But I think that a bigger issue with Moffat’s Doctor is his tendency to repeat himself. This finale had the Doctor vanishing, the stars in the sky vanishing, and everything being restored through an almost-random act by his companion. I’d already seen that, but better, at Amy & Rory’s wedding. The biggest difference is that back then it was the Doctor revisiting the timeline, and now it was his companion. Who, due to the restrictions that the story must fit in 45 minutes and that it was the end to a very short season, came across as a Bad Wolf without any motivation.
I think I’m repeating myself as well - I said the same thing during Moffat’s first season.
Looks like Smith be gone after this season. Not a huge fan of the show but I sometimes try to catch an episode here and there. Maybe this is old news to some of you Who fans but:

Time for a lady Doctor, if you ask me.

If you were a teenager that liked boobs, Peri was okay. I think Mel was the worst.
Well, that beats my idea.
I think the next guy to play the Doc ought to be Scott Bakula. Have Donald P. Bellisarius direct it and voila-
Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Doctor Who led an elite group of Time Lords on Gallerfrey to develop a top secret project, known as T.A.R.D.I.S. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Who, prematurely stepped into the T.A.R.D.I.S. and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own time was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al, the Project Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Who could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Who finds himself leaping from life to life, putting things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next leap will be the leap home.
Hard to believe anyone could feel there isn’t already enough estrogen on that show.
Anyway, disappointed that Smith’s going - was hoping he’d hang around long enough to benefit from a better showrunner and some more coherent, dramatic storytelling. Given my 40 year history with the show, it’s hard to imagine not watching it if it’s still running, but given the way it’s heading I feel like my time would be better spent watching Terra Nova reruns repeatedly.
Has it been canonically established that Timelords can change gender - or skin tone, for that matter - when they regenerate? IIRC, it’s implied in “The Doctor’s Wife” that the Corsair had both male & female incarnations, but I’m not sure if that’s considered definitive.
They can always toss in a male Companion or two to keep it balanced, if you like. :)
BBC radio reported rumours about a female doctor earlier this week, but British bookies are quoting lower odds on the next Doctor being a black guy.
Idris Elba would make a fantastic Doctor Who! ;-)

I’d buy that for a dollar.
I’d also add Richard Ayoade to the list.
Maggie Smith should play the Doctor, and you all know it.
Richard Ayoade is more of a Rowan Atkinson pick. That is, it would be utterly awesome for a single, satirical special, but couldn’t hold up for a whole season.
