This Land is your land is also a socialist anthem, so it would trigger Republicans even more, which makes me like the idea.
Personally, I think we should be like the rest of the world and just not have anthems before sport- except at military installations.
I don’t believe you. What workers paradise is it an anthem? There have been version Canada and other countries but those are just poor imitations.
As a added bonus, there many verse for the song. It is seems that both the Guthries and Pete Seeger made up slightly different verses all time. So it would a source of endless debate as to which would be the official version.

BTW, there was something of a movement to replace Star Spangled Banner as a national anthem that got some traction in the mid-to-late seventies, for many of the reasons Magnet mentions in the OP. In fact, there was enough momentum on it to get mentioned in an episode of All In The Family, iirc.
Spain’s history is so divisive that our anthem has no lyrics (one of four such anthems in the world, along with Bosnia, Kosovo and San Marino - see a pattern?). It’s also pretty meh, but whatever. I don’t think you guys can change the US anthem that easily right now…
One more vote for the French anthem as the anthem to end all anthems.
We had a masked, socially distanced, outside sing along in Feb. There were only six of us so maybe it was just that people didn’t like the song for other reasons but it felt like the two most outspoken liberals in the group were uneasy with This Land is Your Land.
At the time I wondered if it was just the change in tone (we’d mostly been singing 70’s rock prior to that) but since then I’ve wondered if perhaps it isn’t a little bit of an odd duck. It has the melting pot, lets all get along, all the little children of the world feel that seems to be out of favor. Add in the Native American issues and I’m not sure that Republicans are going to be the biggest group against it.
I think people only remember the first verse, I believe the second verse is where things change. I might be remembering things wrong. It might also be one of those things where it could be a white socialism.
Indeed, the Red Army Chorus singing the Soviet national anthem is peak national antheming. Nothing else comes close. Even the wonderful La Marseillaise is a distant second.
