Faeruntest (Ctis): The last turn definitely counts as a minor victory for Ctis. The unstoppable AQ stumbled across a rag tag collection of patrolling troops at the Marignon capital and destroyed it, managing to kill an ice devil in the bargain.

Elsewhere Marignon nibbled away at the massive PD raised in occupied former Marignon territories while both sides continued to fling remote summons at one another. Marignon got lucky with some earth attacks… but theres always more sauromancers where THEY came from!! ;)

Man is standing firm. I have a large army pressing into his territory, but he is clearly a good deal stronger than my predeccessor had expected. Progress there will come at great cost…

Qt3 - WorldWar (C’tis): The Empire Strikes Back

Only five people still playing, and four of us have ganged up against the big bad guy - Caelum. The rebel alliance was faring pretty well it seemed, with a decisive victory in Egypt followed by a successful counterattack. But it appears the empire has been working on a new, more powerful Deathst… uh, Doom Horror brigade. No need to worry though, we all know the good guys have to win in the end, even against impossible odds. Right?

Congratulations to Caelum for managing to keep four of us at bay. If we hadn’t formed this alliance against you, you would have won this easily.

FaerunTest - Caelum

Wow… in the FaerunTest thread, I mentioned that a bunch of my mages had run into a bunch of Draconians that I didn’t expect (when I attacked Marignon). They turned out to be C’tis units, not Marignon. SoapyFrog, who is commanding C’tis, noticed my post and pointed out in a private message to me that the Draconians were in fact his. He apologized and offered to repay the damages. I said no thanks, not your fault, etc. But when I logged in to play my turn recently, he had sent me an obscene amount of money.

Just wanted to let everyone know that SoapyFrog is quite the decent fellow!

Faeruntest - (Man)

My army weathered two storms of fireballs, only to get attacked by what looked like hundreds of undead horsemen . The survivors still managed to take one of C’tis’ forts though :) .

Hopefully Pythium will be diverting his attention soon.

Worldwar (Pangaea) - Welp, looks like Caelum may finally be broken. He held off the 4-nation-strong Anti-Caelum Alliance for what seems like weeks but we seem to have snapped his back in the last couple of turns.

The final blow was a clash between his biggest, baddest army and my biggest, baddest invading army and mine came out on top. I’m sure it must suck when every nation is trying to wipe you out but if it’s any consolation Caelum (played by Loki) would surely have kicked everybody’s ass had we not ganged up on him! /salute!

BTW, I’m going on vacation in 2 days and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to play for a week. If not, may we put the game on hold? Do we even want to continue? The four of us have been allied for so damned long the very thought of fighting you guys makes me feel…dirty!

NO!!! He is a baaaaaaaad Froggy! The evil Froggy is greasing your palm with his right hand, but he has a blood thorn hiding behind his back in his left.

ron_debry: It’s not easy being green…

Dave: They were not Draconians, but actually fiends of darkness. A minor point to be sure ;)

Mercutio: The total cost of gems I expended to damage your armies probably exceeded the value of what I destroyed, and to boot simply fueled Pythium’s Arcane nexus. Doh! But I have to keep harrassing you until my crash of thunder ARMY OF DOOM arrives :P

Whats up with Ryleh?

burp…

(Caelum) It didn’t suck at all to fight this war. I was really angry at myself for first making the mistake (the same one I made in my very first game on the Europe map by the way) of becomming too obviously strong and a clear threat to all - and not working enough on the diplomacy, to add insult to injury. I have only myself to blame for that poor play, and the logical consequence was the war that followed. I had a lot of fun waging that war though :D . The other mistake I made was even worse. I critically underestimated the strength of Pangaea. I mistakenly thought that C’tis was the worst threat. Had I ignored C’tis and concentrated all efforts on the closer neighbour Pangaea, I think I had stood a better chance.

I was a bit disappointed to see my magical resist 24 doom horrors convert to the “carebear side” en masse, so I missed a single turn in frustration. I am planning to go down in a blaze of glory though. I will continue to put in my turns and make the odd kamikaze attack now and then. After all, it won’t take me as much time to do the turns from now on, since my army is now under Pangaea leadership

It has been a really fun game, even if a few of the players seemed to quit early. Let’s do it again sometime, after the “holy-schmoly” alliance finish to fight it out. The Empire will strike back at some point - evil is just more fun! :D

QT3FeedingFrenzy (Mictlan) - Getting a little frustrated 'cos the server keeps resetting the timer without executing the turns. I think we’ve only done two turns in eight days. Grr.

Yeah, what the hell’s up with this? Backov? Tell your manic little gnome to stop punching the REBOOT button on that box. Even if the game is turning into a massive micromanagement nightmare with way more stuff for everybody than is at all reasonable, and even if Mictlan is destined to win no matter what anyone does, I kinda want to see it through, and the gnome’s just asking for a Blood Thorn in the gut.

Honestly, I didn’t think it was obvious how strong you were up until the time I saw your unbelievably scary army invade Arco right on my border. I mean, I knew you were big and getting bigger by taking over Russia from Jotunheim but I definitely had no clue you had so many tartarians, ice devils, and other SC nasties. There was no way I could have held them off which is why I contacted you for peace as soon as I saw them. Fortunately for me, you were already at war with Ctis and Machaka and left me alone to beef up my defenses and also prepare to sneak attack you in Russia.

Those Doom Horrors made my invasion very tricky. Since just about every one of your provinces has a castle in it that would give you a chance to send all 4 Doom Horrors to break up any siege, not to mention the 15+ iron dragons, etc but it was the Doom Horrors that scared me the most–they seem to ruin all decent battle scripts!

Originally I went with 5-6 Archliches to drain the DH’s of life but your Purgatory global and Flames from the Sky decimated them before they got to engage the damned things! So it came down to my Pans and Charm. Man, I love Pans! Nice hit points, recouperation, and plenty of slots.

They actually only charmed 2 of the 4 DH’s but yeah, I was very suprised to see them get through the 24 MR but also very happy. :) If it’s any consolation, I ended up with only 1 DH as the others were all killed (which is another suprise in and of itself–those things are nigh unkillable). But I got some lucky shots in apparently and actually, you killed one of them after I’d charmed it.

This was my first MP game and I had a blast too. Frankly, I didn’t think I’d last this long but I think it’s because I had good relations with most of my neighbors while picking a single target at a time to gang up on with them.

Anyway, I’ll do an AAR when it’s all said and done. Glad you’re hanging around to finish this one and I’ll definitely play in more games with you. /salute!

Faeruntest (Pyhtium): Well, this is going to be short and ugly :?

Even though I declared the war on C’Tis, I wasn’t really ready and didn’t have time to develop any sort of plan - so I just kind of kept futzing around for the past 3 turns. Actually, I spent most of my available dom2 time trying to figure out ways to stop ghostriders in uncastled provinces. Did you know that a 45 gem Angelic Host, equipped with another 20-some gems of stuff (Marble armor, amulet of resilience, luck ammy, spirit helm) and with the 10 mechanical men from Mechanical militia, lose about half the time to 2 casting of ghost riders? Well, from extensive testing, I do know that. Now, add in a couple of indy priests, and your Angel wins 70-80% (the losses come when the wraithlord kills a priest, causing rout). That’s a heckuva lot to spend trying to defend against a 10-gem attack.

Meanwhile, back at the front(s) - he sent 15 ghostrider castings, 5 HfH, one army of mages, and one army with 215 fiends. He surrounds me on 3 sides, so even if I can get my main army out of the hole in the ground where they’re sort of stuck, I can only try to repel one side of it all.

Like I said - short and ugly is my prediction.

Faeruntest (Man) - The fight against C’tis isn’t going too well on my front either.
Even though he’s now at war with Pythium, he still found 4 tartarian titans and a large army of devils to send against me, wiping out my army which had been scripted to fight large numbers of ghostriders.
Unless some miracle happens, I think C’tis has won this one.

Faruntest: Certainly a good turn for me! My astral tartarian goon squad teleported up to the Man front and did a nice number on his army, and I hit Pythium with a rain of ghost riders, as he noted, and moved in an ad-hoc army of sauromancers (supported by 8 castings of hordes) plus porting a beefy army of fiends to scare the piss out of him ;)

Still I would never underestimate a Pythium in control of the Nexus. The real test will be when our armies actually FIGHT! That will be something…

I beleive that the war with Pythium HAS to be short… time is no longer on my side, so the rate of attrition BETTER be!

Modtest ( vanhiem ) : down goes vanhiem. Lost my last two provinces last turn. At least I did some level of damage to the invading forces. If I had just one more turn for research I could have held my castle against the assualt but sadly I didn’t.

Those nifel flames were awesome Panther. Nice job.

Here is part of an email I got today from a friend of mine who just bought Dom2 a few weeks ago. I taught him how to play, and he’s been loving it. I thought his story was worth sharing, if only for the way he puts things, but also perhaps because I, for one, have never seen the things he talks about.

Just the fact that he’s already writing things like “Prot = 17!!!” and “Astral is pretty important for Construction” means he is light years ahead of me in learning Dom2. In fact, what is he even talking about? :)

Thanks for posting that, Dave. I get a vicarious thrill out of seeing other people enjoy the game for the first time.

Don’t go after Bogus the Assraping Troll. Just leave him be if he takes a province.

You mean "don’t go after Bogus until you can charm him and his buddies", right?

btw - when you charm Fardregast (or however you spell that), he comes equipped with the tactical command “attack commander”.
