Crap, I had it mostly done. Grrr.
WorldWar - Machaka
Oops! The Anti-Caelum Alliance (ACA) runs into a communications snag, as two large ACA armies attack each other in SE Asia. At least it was a very entertaining battle! And I now want to make Ethereal Crossbows of my own, thanks to seeing Pangaea (Guildboss) use them to great effect on my giant, expensive spiders.
One shot, one kill. :) Didn’t seem to help me win the battle, though. :(
Not that it matters, as I squeaked out the win vs Caelum’s last bastion and I suppose we can finally call it quits with him defeated. That is, unless you guys want to break up the alliance and beat the crap outta each other now. :?
Good job against the last bastion! I look forward to Loke’s wrap-up. And yeah, I think I’ll pass on another 120 turns in this game. :)

It was a lot closer than I’d expected. In fact, my army actually routed near the end when he had only a handful of troops left still fighting. His prophet and a demilich were all that was left but my Juggernaut never gave up. It rolled right up to his demilich (who was powerless against it since it is Lifeless so his Drain Life wasn’t working) and just squished him. Then his prophet killed the juggernaut and split! Fortunately for me I had a few paralyzed troops still on the battlefield so they were incapable of running away! Hehe.
ANyway, was a good battle and a great war. I’ll try to get an AAR up this week. For as long as this game has taken it’s still pretty fresh in my memory seeing that it was my first multiplayer game!

FeedingFrenzy (Vanheim) - well, for all Pangaea’s wailing about how terrible it is to be under attack from two sides and will great and benevolent Mictlan please step in and save the widdle forest beasties, said widdle beasties seem quite capable of defending themselves … Caelum, thanks for showing me how not to attack armies of mechanical men
I guess Wrathful Skies has outlived its usefulness in this game.
I agree. I was really fun to watch that battle. I am really disappointed that my powered up pretender never got to fight though. He was paralyzed at the worst possible time (with MR 23, hmpf), and was ironically killed by my own cowardly Jinh and Air Queen, who both had decided mid battle, that Pangaea would pay a higher salary
All in all, my hat’s off for Guildboss’ Pangaea in this game. Really strong battle scripting was what made the difference. Excellent job and well deserved victory!
Faeruntest (Man) - A splendid victory against the dark forces of C’tis. Magic duels dealt with 3 of his tartarians, my two arch-devils and my pretender kept his troops busy, and then my main body of troops advanced and finished him off. Also kudos to the Wind Lord and his sylphs, who kept an entire regiment of devils occupied.
I sincerely hope he can’t scrape up another 40 sauromancers any time soon.
Of course, all this unfortunately means that my army will probably be destroyed by remote summons and artillery next turn. :(

Did I charm Jinh too?! I didn’t notice that one…must have been late in the battle. I did notice that I got one of the air queens though and that helped me a lot! Your 2 AQ’s and Djinn were practically unhittable and were causing all sorts of havoc among my mages. I was lucky to finally get through the MR on the one AQ (and then the Djinn too, but it was almost too late by then!).

Thank you! But it didn’t come easy as I spent a lot of time working on the scripts of almost every commander. It was ridiculously tedious and time consuming but I suppose it paid off in the end…by the skin of my teeth though!
BTW, how the heck did you BLIND just about everybody?!? Was it a mass battlefield spell where all troops had to make a MR check or was it done with the single target Blindness spell? I couldn’t figure it out. All I knew was one minute we’re storming the castle and everybody’s happy because they can see and the next moment the majority of my big hitters and best mages are BLIND and just sorta wandering about. Ugh.
Anyway, kudos to you for enduring the Anti-Caelum alliance for as long as you did and making us pay (badly) in the meantime! /salute
Truly… those magic duels were decisive, I think… Did I actually kill one of your Arch Devils? I watched the battle on fast forward this morning, and all I know is about midway through the battle, one of your arch devils went off like a bomb (phoenix pyre! aaargh!) right in the middle of my casters… took at least 8 or 9 sauromancers with him. I didnt see him reappear anywhere but then I wasn’t looking very hard. That was a very busy battle!
A very busy turn all told, One of my armies in Pythium took something like 6 or 7 murdering winters in the teeth. Ouch! However I finally found the main body of Pythium’s army and bombarded it with about 22 Ashen Angels a few earth attacks and some assorted artillery… (no dome??) I killed a lot of communicants and a few low-grade mages, and got my first look at an ASTRAL 9 Air Queen. Oh boy. That is not a good sign at all. Pythium may have lost 3/4s of his territory so far, but he remains ridiculously potent… part of me wonders why the smackdown is not being laid more intensely upon my advancing armies.
FeedingFrenzy -
Hey, Mictlan - We all wait to see what sort of infernal armageddon you are going to unleash on Vaheim and Caelum!
I have baited their armies and they have fallen into our trap. Let’s rock Very Happy
.
QT3FeedingFrenzy (Mictlan)
Mmm <snort>, hmm? Wha?
Oh, yes, sorry. Trap. Rock. Armageddon.
Armageddon. Mmmmmmmm.
Mostly it’s because I set up a test game and ran a similar AQ against a “mere” 150 fiends (all I had the patience to have the stand-in opponent summon). The AQ, in combination with various other things that I actually have, lost, decisively, every time. There are some combinations of things I am working on getting that worked (against 150, at any rate), though my research is now a bit low :P
As for the lack of dome - as you have been advancing through my territory, I have been teleporting my research mages into that one province. I think I had ordered a couple of domes to go up this turn, but presumably the mages tasked to do so did not last long enough.
I’ll be gone soon. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone else has an answer to your 1200+ high-end troops. And, once the game is over, it will be fascinating to hear from the pros what I should have been doing these past 10 turns.
Ron,
Weapon of sharpness+army of gold+fiends of darkness are the most cost effective unit I have found in my simulations. Given the difficulty of casting wrathful skies they are hard to beat. SC’s have a tremendously hard time stopping them.
Storms and summon spam is probably the best thing to try.
As for what you should have done I’m not sure exactly. It pretty much depends upon how high that astral income of yours is. I really don’t have a good feeling for it.
I’m having a hard time finding a game that has a 5-7 day forced hosting. It seems they either don’t exist or they fill up too fast and aren’t available. I’m in a relaxed game now and it seems to post every few weeks or months, which is fucking rediculous. The only games I see have 1-3 day hosting which I can’t keep up with because of my work schedule. The few PBEM games I’ve been in take too long as well. I tried the Shrapnel forum but any games I might be interested in fill up too fast.

You did kill him, yes. Seems this front has been a bit of a sideshow though. If Pythium’s about to fall, then I guess my game will soon be up.
There’s always Atlantis. Atlantis is teh hugez0r. Have you written him a kind note?
I am cautiously optimistic. Atlantis is huge, and Pythium retains considerable power in the Nexus and that A9 AQ. I dont doubt he has other wishers I havent seen yet… to me thats a huge wild card, I don’t really know exactly how to deal with that except brute force and hope for the best.
That last battle in the north threw me as well. That army was SUPPOSED to be able to hold back Man for at least the next 6 or 7 turns… now I have nothing up there. Sure I can afford to lose some territory but its another pressure point. Maybe the cracks are starting to show?
All I can say is that if things do turn around and I LOSE this game I will say Kudos and Well Played! I don’t think it is outside the realm of possibility at all.

That might be an idea.
Should Pangaea be set to AI? I don’t think he’s played for quite some time.
Pangaea is GuildBoss, who is not known for going AI!
Maybe so, maybe not - but I don’t think he has played a turn in this game since New Year’s.
