See: Jotunheim vs. Man, ibid., turns 11-18.

Hehe yep indeed, in fact Man was defacto dead, since he had no pretender, no prophet, no castle, no temple…

Now I look at my dwindling treasury and dream of the valuable lands I handed back to Man ;) However I will say that it was probably for the best in the long run since Marignon would have had little trouble taking those provinces from me in any case.

Well, looks like it’s almost all over. I completely underestimated C’tis. We had some good fights, though. Can’t say I got too many bad breaks. Just made a few bad decisions.

Solar Brilliance. I think that’s the spell I was looking for but couldn’t quite think of. The description makes it sound like it’s effective against undead, but now I can’t remember if it works well or not. If it does work that would have been useful to have…

It certainly sounds like it would hurt!

Qt3 - The Dominionator

Turn 48: C’tis

In this game, the rule is: Get big, and get attacked. At some point, the player who is biggest will be able to withstand the attack, and, as the player with the most provinces, I hope that time has come! Marignon easily captured the Mausoleum next to my capital while the bulk of my army was beseiging a Pythium fortress that was defended by zero troops. (Lesson learned: as soon as the fortress can be beseiged, storm the fort with a single unit to inspect the state of the defenders.)

Now the bulk of that army has returned to the capital to confront Marignon’s “horde of crossbows”. But diplomatic efforts to secure peace with Man have failed, and a “swarm of Vine Ogres” is massing on the border.

So I have two questions:

 1. Does a Mausoleum have any walls, or is it simply a tower without a gate?

 2. Are Vine Ogres susceptible to fire?

In the south, the fight against Pythium continues to go my way, and I hope to be able to take Pythium’s advice: when you’ve got someone cornered, don’t let him get away.

I don’t think it has any walls.

 1. Are Vine Ogres susceptible to fire?

No.

It actually does - low ones, with no gate - a wide gap in front. But there are walls.

No.

You sure? I seem to recall a 25% vulnerability - for vinemen at the very least.

Not in the base game. There may be a vulnerability in the CB mod.

Are Vine Ogres susceptible to harsh language? Cuz someone in this game is going to need to figure that out, given that Man has been globally blessed by Mother Oak for about a dozen turns now!

Thanks for the replies, Graeme and Rollory!

I think Vine Ogres are suseptible to gold. Lots and lots of gold.

Sort of like Cybermen. Only they prefer the round coin shaped gold and not the powdered kind.

Page 106!

I offered you two of my choicest provinces, worth 130 gold per turn, and you said no. Your Vine Ogres need to realize that land is money. Land is money, you mindless brutes! Perhaps you can reason with them. :)

Meanwhile, I’ll keep researching anti-Ogre strategies. I know that in one game, I made a crapload of Ogres and they got massacred by something or other.

Anyone know if Banefire Bow archers + Fire Arrows would make them suffer? Can Fire Arrows apply to Banefire Bows?

A charcoal shield, the fire shield spell, a rime hauberk, or breath of winter on something with enough defense skill and protection to handle vine ogres can make them die pretty quickly. They aren’t lifeless, so you can life drain off them. Are you playing C’Tis? You should be able to set up an anti-vine ogre Banelord with a wraith sword, ring of regeneration, lucky amulet, and an amulet of antimagic. You really also want jade armour or boots of quickness, and flying would be really good. Or you could give him a charcoal shield, and a main gauche of parrying, and leave the rest the same. If you have some D4 sauromancers and have drain life researched, then you should be able to out skeleton spam vine ogres.

I think that fire arrows apply to banefire bows. Darkness would be a good choice of battlefield spells.

The key to beating vineogres is to take advantage of their low Magicresistance. A thug with soulvortex, or a regenerator with high defense and a charcoal shield work pretty well.

Banefire archers could work, but they won´t be costeffective. The ogres will probably still win the battle and die afterwards, smashing all your cute archers. But yeah fire arrows apply to banefire bows.

Thanks, Graeme.

I didn’t think Drain Life had anything to do with spitting out skeletons. What’s the connection?

One really nice thing about this game is that magic sites are rare, and we have seen zero thug units in 48 turns. All of our battles have been between standard armies supported by standard mages. It’s totally awesome.

I’d very much like it if the winner of this game never used a thug or supercombatant. Thank you for your reply, in any case!

Recharging the skelly spammers so they don’t pass out.

Drain Life reduces fatigue? I thought it only regenerated Hit Points.

They may have changed this in a patch since I haven’t touched dom2 for over a year, but as I recall any life draining effect replenishes some hp and lots o fatigue. Really, the fatigue is more important than the hp since fatigue is what causes powerful combatants to pass out and die. This is why soul vortex is one of my favorite spells.

One last question: Do the sauromancers require some form of “life” (e.g. Militia) around them to drain life from? (I don’t even like it that I’m asking these sorts of questions, because I’d just as soon experiment in the game, but it bugs me that the descriptions of these spells is so vague.)
