Turn 55: C’tis

Marignon’s back seems to have broken, but his efforts have bought time for Man to gather a 300+ army of Vine Ogres and Longbows. My forces are spread thin thanks to the southern campaign versus Pythium, which is a slow, slogging thing. Marignon still pumps the unrest in key provinces using his spies, so money’s tight and times are hard.

Jotunheim is populated by toothless crones and giant warriors in wheelchairs. Ulm seems to be stuck at home fighting Marignon spies, but has a little army wandering the center of the map; I hope it is getting retribution versus Marignon rather than aiming at the former Pythium empire.

I assume The Dominionator is still going on? Has everyone ganged up and crushed C’tis yet?

I believe it is the other way around - C’Tis has ganged up and is crushing the rest of us.

By the way - dom3 pre-orders start shipping Oct. 2nd.

Turn 60: C’tis

Man has placed two of my fortresses under siege this turn, and there are Vine Ogre battalions marching in every direction from Man’s capital. I think it is time to unleash my “Army of OMGness” (as Mark, playing Ulm in this game, put it).

Fear the Army of OMGness, Man! I suggest you fear it by recalling all troops to your capital city. That would be awesome.

Jotunheim, meanwhile, appears to control a single water province, or something like that. If he comes back and wins this game, it will overshadow even what Man has done! A comeback by Marignon would similarly be very impressive. He just busted out of his capital and killed the indie Trogolodytes that were beseiging it.

Also, you have to giggle a little at the main Illwinter page for Dominions 3:

Anyhow, can’t wait to play it with you all!

Dom3 demo just went to testing.

Hmm. Many things may pass under the moons of Dominion. Only time will tell :).

I control more than one province thankfully, but any kind of comeback for me is pretty much out of the question… right now I am finishing myself off quite capably with my unluck scale.

Turn 61 or so: C’tis

Marignon, seemingly back on his heels for good, emerges from his castle with an Arch Devil! He wears Jade Armor and brandishes a Charcoal Shield. With haste he dispatched a small Ulm army, and now sits just one province away from my heartland.

Meanwhile, Man continues to siege me in two places. Pythium’s last resistance efforts give me troubles in the south. Now it’s my turn to sit back on my heels! If only I’d known from the start how I should play this: skeleton armies, then Wraith Lords using Soul Vortex.

I still love the fact that this Arch Devil that has shown up is just about the only powerful unit that has appeared in the entire game. He actually strikes dread into me! I feel like his death alone would make all the difference.

And well he should strike dread unto ye!

If only you had access to a decent Arch Devil counter-strategy, like huge masses of lifeless chaff…

I do believe Mr. Scary will soon turn and head away from your direction :)

The subtle greatness of a Dominions 2 game is shown in how hard it is to be successful in war; that is not only to win but to profit from the victory. In this game the dynamics have changed according to the fortunes of others.

The seminal point of the game was my early defeat by Jotunheim. At turn 15 this was a far too early in the game to keep things balanced, and thus it shifted the balance of power into the North.

The cost to Jotunheim however was high, because it caused me to ravage his lands with what little i had left, and his armies met defeat on the battlefields of Marignon. Thus, while defeating me, he was himself defeated.

With not just one but two crippled northern powers, whomever gained the North would win the game. For a while it seemed like Marignon’s steamroller would crush all of us. However, while his armies advanced in every direction he met defeat in the Southern lands. So while crushing Jotunheim, he also was defeated in turn.

Now, the last remaining Northern power, C’tis, finds it’s armies advancing in all directions. Emerging as the most powerful remaining Northern power, he pushed south completely defeating Pythium’s legions. But, he has made himself the enemy of all the remaining powers in his advance.

Has C’tis gained enough time to achieve a technological edge that can propel him to final and total victory? Or will the cycle turn and turn again?

That is EXACTLY the question. And excellent summary of the game thus far!

That would be awesome! I think he should go attack Man. Cuz Man is scary and has two globals and he’s hurting my pplz.

Glad that’s settled, then!

I’ve got two globals and a fistful of toy soldiers. Dave has, by his own admission, the Army of OMGness.

I think the choice is clear.

It was Ulm who called my army that. I personally think of it as the Army of ROFLness!

Turn heckifIcouldbebotheredtoremember: Marignon

Yo - Man! Yep - I’m talkin’ to you! What - you seriously don’t want any help from Marignon in fighting off C’Tis? OK, fine.

You got your wish, buddy boy. I’m coming at you with both barrels blazing.

OMG bluff mb

Dude, i do want help. Why’d you attack me for attacking Ulm that captured your castle? Uh, thanks? Good going? Ulm isn’t doing jack against Ctis. He needs to get into line.

OMG bluff mb…

I have Vine Ogres getting drunk at all of my pubs and smashing furniture. It’s not nice. Also, I lost a fort thanks to not plugging the danged gate. But I did make my very own Charcoal Shield! I’m so excited!

Bah, Ulm has been too busy trying to get a foothold somewhere other than this horrid little corner down here to attack C’tis.

I might add the distinctly agressive spamming of the Ulm capital by Marig spies leaves me with little enthusiasm for attacking C’tis and leaving myself open to Marig. Why can’t we all just get along?
