Squidz: Unicorn made an appearance and turned himself AI, so it should go a little faster now. The notifications should be back with the next turn as well.

Bommerlunder - Jomon

Turn 52

The seemingly endless hordes of Ermorian undead were temporarily checked as the Last Army of Jomon, lead by the great Daimyo Masatsura and Ryutaro, Son of the Dragon King defeated a great undead horde on the plains of Myrgor Island.

The Ermorian army was like a vast sea, over 1200 grotesque animated skeletons… Longdead Legionaires, Longdead Cavalry on thier skeletal steeds, sacred Knights of the Unholy Sepulcre… To oppose them a bare 250 troops, a thin line of militia, mechanical men, a handful of vine ogres and shamblers, the flower of Jomon chivalry, 100 samurai archers. Backing them up, 35 priests, Shujenjas and Onmyo-yi.

The wave of undead surged forward to be met by the chanting of priests and the arcane magicks of the ancient Jomon wizards. Samurai archers fired volly after volley of arrows which burst into magical flames as they flew, destroying great swathes of longdeads. The thin line held strong as the undead battered against it… disaster loomed as the enemy sacreds outflanked the end of the line and drove into the chanting priests and wizards, killing several… their rampage was checked by the brave sacrifice of Ryutaro and the timely summoning of a great fire elemental. Crisis past, the strength of the undead horde was broken and all that remained was to mop up… the undead captains and unholy priests fled the field before the triumphant advance of the Jomon line.

Total casualties 1180 Ermorians, while Jomon lost 65. Perhaps the Ermorians cannot be truly stopped, but they will buy their victory dearly!

If only I could have used all my troops in a single battle without crashing the server :( I guess I’ll have to take you down with wave after wave - prepare to join the horde Jomon fools!!! You have angered the undead beast!!!

Yes… if only your massive armies actually FIT on the battlefield ;)

From Sven Vanson, King of the North,

Today there is a new great victory to announce. How the mighty are fallen, the so called Leader of Dominions is dead. Even now i drink met from a pokal made of his skull. It was a great battle and we have seen many wondrous spells… But it is also right that elijah snow is dead, he lost the ways of our fathers, we of the north revel in cold and death… He on the other side conjured Kings of fire and magma… his fiery spell burned many Vanheim soldiers to ashes, thats no way to die for an honest northern soldier. It is well that he paid the price for his foolishness and even now our troops have a merry time in helheim… Alas i fear that the war is far from over as there are still heltroops that are fighting in the south but perhaps kailasia is now ready to join the alliance of the free nations.

Death to all supressors, long life the free north and its better to be dead than fiery red!

Well, I suppose with a little help from your 35+ priests, they sure fit a lot more comfortably ;)

I’ve hit a strange problem in the MP game Bommerlunder - not sure if it is a bug, or something idiopathic to my computer setup.

Here’s the problem - when I try to take my turn in Bommerlunder (and it only started last turn), using the right mouse button doesn’t select a province, it triggers the end turn box (what would happen if you hit ‘e’). Now why is this strange? Taking my turn in SP games, or in the 3 other MP games I’m playing, the mouse behaves normally. I can select a province normally by hitting “#” and putting in the province number, and once I’ve selected a province, I can use the RMB normally to select a commander, for example.

What I’ve tried - I’m running XP with a Logitech G5 mouse, and I’ve gone into the Logitech software to “reset defaults” in case there was some odd preference set - no help. I’ve tried deleting all local files for Bommerlunder and redownloading the turn - no help. I tried going away on vacation for a few days - no help. I even tried losing to Hetzer in the Dawn game, and that didn’t help either. I’ve checked the mouse settings under the control panel, and again no help.

I’d hate to drop out of the game and go AI - but I can’t see any way to play without selecting a province to move troops. Any suggestions?

That EXACT SAME BUG happened to me with a single-player game once (random map). Unfortunately I seem to have deleted the game eventually. But the behavior was exactly that: right-click ending turn. (And in SP this was devastating, since end turn just generates the next turn instantly)

Quitting, restarting, rebooting, etc, none of it helped; that game was hosed, the behavior change was permanent. All other Dom3 games worked fine.

Stormbinder, did you stale in Lictor again?

This is kinda silly, you were the one all gung-ho to keep the game going, and … :-)

Checking over at the shrapnel forums, it seems like this has happened to several other folks - no word on a fix or a cause.

Hmmm, that’s a very mean bug.

What about reinstalling Dominion or instaling it on another computer, and than downloading new turn from the server using this fresh setup? Have you tried that?

Hmmm Dawn seems to be down…

Sir! The fleet is ready!

Fleet? Wazza fleet?

Ships sir, for sailing across the top of the water!

Bah! Girlieman stuff! We’ll walk across the bottom, like always.

But the bottom belongs to R’lyeh. They wouldn’t like that. So we built a fleet. A glorious fleet of shiny magical ships. Half of them are fitted with a terrifying inscription: “Made in China”. Now we shall explore, find the fabled new world. Just think! Huge expanses of uncivilized land in which to expand!

[1 month later]

Land ho!

What?! Already? Somehow I had imagined that this “New World” of yours would be a bit farther away. I hardly had a decent nap. Ahh well. Anyone on that land?

<from the crow’s nest> Just savages, I think, sir!

Good! OK - shore leave for everyone!

No t’isn’t…

Sorry typed in the wrong port number, silly me…

Well played, I thought my peace with Rlyeh protected the shores of my homeland from invasion so that sailing attack came at me out of nowhere. Now I have to make the tough choice of either shifting back forces from my Pangaean front to defeat your invasion or else finishing the Pangaean wipeout and accepting bad homeland losses until I can bring armies back later.

Well, I tried this on one of the computers at work, and it did the exact same thing. So, clearly this is a bug of some sort. I will email Illwinter later today with the files to see if they’ve got any suggestions.

WTF??? The Dominions III Megathread dropped to the second page of the forums??? Get with the program, people!!!

14 hours to autohost as of this posting. Some of you may not have been aware that the clock is ticking…

On that topic, is there any new games forming up on the horizon? Since I’ve been beaten thoroughly out of the Peltast game, I think I could manage to find the time to get beaten up in another game now.

as i’m getting my arse cubed, fried in butter and handed to me on my shoulderblade by niefelheim in hoplite, i’d be up for another too…
