Unfortunately true, I’ve found that myself. I’ve had a lot of luck with the policy of 48 hour timers on my games. I give people pauses, even quite long ones, any time they ask for them and it still works out great. Tthe 48 hour timer isn’t there to protect against the active players, it’s to keep the game moving when someone decides they are bored with dom3 and wanders away never to be heard from again.
I should also add that now that the newness dom3 has worn off and the people who were just trying it because it was the flavor-of-the-month have wandered away, the remaining players are pretty good folks and likely to take turns promptly. The QT3-Lanka game hosted turn 11 this morning and that game has only been running for 6 days. Not bad for a game on a 48 hour timer :)

Lanka: Maverni suffered its first real setback today. Bummer.
Still the screaming Celts continue to prosper and explore the merry world.
I have a feeling the Lanka/Pan war may have turned a corner. The Blackfist is alive and well, which bodes poorly for Pan.

Bleh i forgot that i’m going to be out-of-town on business this week. I don’t know if i’m going to be staying at the only hotel with wireless but i’ll try :). If i suddenly go awal around tues-wed this week, that’ll be why.
Speaking of timers - can we put the timer back on Bandar?

If we can get a consensus, I’d be happy to shut this down. I think I don’t like being a water nation :P
This also opens up a slot for a new game (my server gets sluggish but workable with 2 games served, 3 would be excessive), if anyone’s interested.
Since the new patch is just around the corner (I have no special knowledge, but it seems like a week or two given past experience), perhaps start a new one when the patch is out?
Really? What O/S and hardware?
I’m running a server on a fairly low end equipment and dom3 doesn’t seem to be much of a resource pig in server mode. It was when it first came out but somewhere along the way some patches have fixed some memory things and I find it better behaved nowadays. For reference, my server has 256M RAM and the two dom3 games I’m currently running show up as about consuming about ~14% memory each. I would think I could scale up to 5 games pretty easily on this fairly modest server.
I dunno about well, he lost most of his troops against the Pan PD. That Pan PD keeps surprising me and doing a lot more damage than I think they will. However the breathing room with the pressure off of my capitol is a me send.
Lanka:
NOOOOO!!! Such crap! I was just going to blood sacrifice when I got wiped out due to lack of dominion. SUCKS! I was just happy on my own too.
I had eight provinces, blood 4, a huge army, and BOOM.
I’m beside myself. Anyone want to start a new game?

P3 700 256, running my websites as well :) And a GUI. It adds up.
Re: post-patch game start - makes sense.
Ouch! I wish I was your neighbour!
As it is I seem to be quite hemmed in…

One by one, only the goooood die young (rofl)!
I feel your pain, man. This happened to me in Shirley - I had a huge army of double blessed jaguar men, saw the trouble I was in, started sacrificing - and wham! Out by turn 20 (Maybe it was turn 16 - I don’t remember). I think Mictlan needs to start blood sacrifices by turn 3. Maybe turn 5 at the latest.

Mictlan needs to start sacrificing at turn 1. Don’t think of those free bloodslaves as anything but food for your Dominion.
Sorry about that man :/.
This thread (well, that and trying out the demo, but mostly this thread) just snagged another player. The price made me wince a bit, but it looks to be worth it.
Hopefully my copy will arrive soon enough to get in on some of the restarting games. The only problem I currently have with the SP - that there’s no evident sense of diplomacy any more than “when will they declare a war of annihilation on you?” - is quite solved by MP.

From Sven Vanson, King of the North,
today our allies the army of ulm fought against those kailasian apes. We feared first that the wave of kailasians would flood over the ulmish army. As the battle began both armys came to a stop and began casting protective spell after spell, they castesd so long that we thought they would never charge (those southerners have strange combat tactics) but finally the ulmish began their charge, with wonder we saw that the charge got momentum and finally after much hack and slash the kailasian ranks broke, soapyfrog (what a name for a woman) began to flee… and than… she got in berserker mode and charged the ulmish line OO… the rest is history. We believe the kailasian empire is gone with the wind as so many other adversaries.
Three cheers for the Ulmish: hooray hooray HOORAY!

Meanwhile on the ermorian front:
All is silent on the front, the last ermorian invaders on the holy vanheim ground have died. They tried to defend the castle just north from the front but alas their leaders all died before the battle started… the troops themselves fleed as soon as the wolves of the north arraived at the gates…
Who was it that said ermorians cant feel fear? Today they run as hares…
All is silent but it is the silence of fear, the ermorians are cowering behind walls that wont protect them. The troops are dying from diseases the leaders die from arrows. Even now our new troops are marching to the south. In a few years nobody will remember the ermorian traitors.
Indeed Ulm blew the crap out of me… my troops seemed quite unable to hit, and in any case I think most were quite badly afflicted by disease at this point ;)
The many battlefield support spells that Ulm arrayed against me truly won the battle… i could only dream of having such strong magic!
Still, to the death we will oppose you!!!
So just as I get the upper hand on Kailasa, Abysia breaks our old truce and attacks from behind. And he’s using a water 9 blessing too. Am I the only one that DIDN’T take it?
