Hang on… I’m really supposed to come out of my castle with my 200 troops and fight your 500 troops this turn? :O
Okay!
I think Abyssia has heard your prayers Mercutio. The told me that they were withdrawing from NA pact with me several turns ago. I’ve been putting a lot of efforts into reinforcing my border with them (and with Ermor, just in case) for the most of the game, but even more so recently.
Frankly if not for the need to keep borders with my northern neighbors strongly defended our war with Man would be over long time ago.
This thread needs a bump!
Ah, the joy of growing empires in Banefire. Pangea and I moving in on the independent coast territories and accidentally butting heads. Of course I had to do all the actual killing of indeps and then Pans. Still, Pangea looks to be running away with the game already, judging by the ridiculous size of his territory and the fact that he’s already sieging Jomon’s capital. I’m sure glad I’m underwater right now.
I don’t think Pangaea will run away with the game unless he manages to grab enough VPs early. He has a lot of provinces, sure, but unless he has the armies to hold them as well, two or three of us ganging up on him should be able to stop him.

But perhaps it is Arco that is in the best position? The case for this is as follows:
1: Arco’s home is worth 2 VPs
2: Arco’s expansion is more or less open, as there are many many regions held by independents between him and the edge of the map–with no one who will be able to get them before Arco, while Pangaea borders only 2 regions held by natives.
3: Pretty much all of the lands around Pangaea’s capital are wastes. Honestly, the income is more important than the total # of regions, and Arco will be surging strongly there.
4: Arco’s southern neighbor, Utgard, is very close to dead.
5: Arco’s showing in the other graphs is pretty strong.
Personally, I’d rather his position than Pangaea’s
The aforementioned “winner-take-all” battle between Tien Chi and Agartha resulted in: all Tien Chi pplz dead, negative one Agarthans dead. I waited too long (80 turns) to join the fight against Agartha, and have paid the price. Well played, Ron! Thumbs up to all who played in this game; at some point, I think I was allied with every other nation except Mictlan. And I did send him a fruitcake at Christmas.
I have to go AI cuz of a 2-month trip. Salud!
Bandar I’m ready to call this one a game with Ron as the winner; there’s not much I can do but annoy and pillage, and with TC gone and Pangaea still crippled from fighting Mictlan, we’ve better move on and accept the giants as the masters of this world.
Bandar:I think its about the end, too. But, judging by the 400+ centaurs that just de-cloaked next door to my main army, I’d guess that Jeff would like to have at least another couple of turns to try and knock that arrogant smirk off of Rama’s face.
Yeah, I figured Ron was going to walk away with Bandar when he squished me that fast and hard. I was not a feeble Mictlan either, I had a good build up, access to high level magics, lots of summoned stuff, etc.
The classic dominion game-winning ploy is for the biggest nation in the game to successfully portray the second or third biggest as the serious threat everyone needs to gang up against thus giving them freedom to go from the biggest nation to unbeatable leviathan without a multi front war. Ron appears to have pulled it off nicely!
Nice Job Ron. You looked set to win from the beginning, and it’s impressive that you managed to avoid having that be your downfall. With Agartha no less, who IMHO struggles early.
Agreed. I’ve pointed out several times that Agartha is clearly positioned to win the game, last time I did it about 20 turns ago or so, when I went AI. Agartha replied that it is not true and suggested that I am simply being bitter because I lost, and they pointed to the R’lyeh as a Big Bad Wolf. Haha.
Personally I think it was mostly Tien Chi’s position that allowed Agartha to run away with the game. First Tien Chi helped Agartha to crash the only strong neighbor that Agartha had (Abyssia). Then Tien Chi did nothing while Agartha continued to grow in power and territory, assimilating more of Abyssia, Giants and Yomi lands, despite calls from several nations urging them to act. So when Tien Chi finally waked up and decided to do something about Agartha, by that time it was far too late.
Anyway, well played Agartha, congratulations.
Good game everyone.
Let me offer a third possible “strongest position canidate”, Marignon. His initial provinces are currently include a ton of farmland, which means bundles of money. He already has three castles and multiple VPs. His magic and scales (3 order, 1 prodctutiviy, 3 magic) are weighted towards his favor meaning good things in the long run. I think Marignon and Arco are heading for a show down, and when that happens, the winner is going to be in great shape to challenge Pan.
As for myself (Man), I find myself an a surprisingly good position relative to my starting spot. Sure, my Capital is on an island, but this allowed me to concentrate on defense and magic. My Capital (Beyond being protected by a bunch of water providences) is patroled by a plethora of high quality units and mages equiped with gems and battle field alteration magic. Any attack is going to be repulsed and, unless the attackers are amphibuous, they’ll drown. Worst comes to worst, I’m now controlling the seas and my castle is backed by numerous Magisters. Seiges would take a long time, while I send units to break them. Its quite the deterrent. I might now be in a position to win, but I think I can have a surprisingly strong say in who does now that I’m starting to control those sea provindences.

400 Centaurs? 4,000 in hiding, just waiting for the right moment!!! Your armies of Tatarians, Air Queens, mages and hordes of other assorted crap have no chance. No chance at all!!!
Well played Ron!

Bandar Congrats, Ron. I only had control over R’lyeh for the last 20 or so turns, so I can’t really comment on the diplomacy other than it seemed Nick gave in a little too early. Perhaps he knew something I didn’t? It’s quite the swift kick to the morale to lose most of your provinces in a few turns, but AI Mictlan quickly reclaimed them and didn’t have trouble keeping me in the water.
I’ve learned quite a few lessons about R’lyeh (which I’ve never played before… even in Dom2) and astral magic. My greatest blunder was Mind Hunt spamming a province where APPARENTLY there was a golem. Oops. To top it off, my plan of sending in my 6S Mind Lord to cast Opposition on your Magma Children was cut short when I forgot to send him in with an Amulet of the Fish. O_o
In any case, it was fun, though I think I’ll stay out of the water for my next game.
Lanka - Pangea
Dateline - Morassia, Pangaean capital
All is lost! Our last ditch defence of Morassia ended in failure… an exciting battle however, outnumbered 3:1, the white centaurs crushed the Marveni left wing and center, however Marveni carried the right and the PD fled at a bad moment exposing the true weakness of the remaining loyal Pangaens.
140 dead Marveni littered the field, but 160 living Marveni pursued the Pangaen remmnants from the field.
Well played Wahoo! A well deserved victory ;)

Lanka: Maverni:
The Celts are a bit awed at the beating they took today. And hard is the life of a merc company as the Brave Breakers stood in the center and died for it to the last man. More harmful was the death of one my top druids who died in the center but helped weaken the Pans.
Overall, I’m very thankful I didn’t attack you as soon as I did. I needed every trooper and mage to win. While I knew you got to build up, I was able to build up a little faster which helped. I knew every turn would make you stronger but I wanted to make sure I had enough mages/troops and figured you could only buy a few centaurs more troops each turn.
I must say the first and last main battle against Pan were the 2 most exciting I’ve played in. Close-run affairs where it was Pan quality against Maverni numbers and I was able to last just a bit longer than Pan each time.
Now it’s mopup time against Pan.
I think I’m missing out on all of the good fighting going on…

I seem to have a weird bug in DoD. I’m getting ‘The province contains about X hostile units. The local defense is …’ scouting reports for my own provinces.
