I actually learned a lot in my imminent defeat in Lanka. Except how to defend against that whirldwind crap. I think that literally sealed my fate.
Yeah, was a pretty good job. Wish I had been able to come save you, but Pan’s sacreds whipped me.
Hordes of cheapo commanders are the way to go against that. Indie priests are pretty cheap and have the added advantage of extra firepower if someone throws a horde of undead at you.
The whirdwind spell isn’t cheap so it’s hard for a player to justify repeated casting if they are spending 10 air gems just to take out a priest.
Yeah, I guess that makes sense.
It’s just against my nature in strategy games. I build up strong commanders, give them good stuff and have them control my armies… having a bunch of hanger on guys to move with my armies is annoying. :P
Well in my campaign against you I’ve taken something like 10 provinces off of you so far without fighting a major battle. Heck, I just took 3 provinse off of you in the last three turns using nothing but a single commander and his bodyguard of 10 undead. I’ve watched your huge armies rout and rout and rout because I’ve killed all your commanders.
Now if you look at how horribly horribly fire vulnerable my armies are, and how much fire magic you have, not having a few more commanders basically meant the difference between you routing and you crushing my armies utterly. Which is what would have happened if we’d actually had a pitched battle, you’d have turned me into pate.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it was a bad plan on your part. It was obviously a good plan. I hadn’t had that particular tactic used against me before (before, protecting my commanders with guards worked pretty well) and didn’t prepare for it. Well done and I’ve learned a valuable lesson, definitely.
It went exactly as you said, more than a couple of times. Very annoying! :P

Just a heads up - I’ll be away at a conference from Thursday to Saturday. Because of the 96h timer, and how the turns fall (and assuming we don’t host before tomorrow), I should be able to get my turn in on Sunday.
I can confirm that Lanka is just about done, and Ryleh appears to follow inevitably thereafter.

Whats an gor abomination more or less? The pretender is lost due to a bug or something, could be happend anyway… ok that ring of sorcery wasnt nice, but a ring of wizardry would hurt more… so all in all you lost pretty much money… at least 2 temples and much unrest and i lost a mage, 25 astral and 20 nature for the abomination 50 astral for the ring and a little change money…
perhaps you are on the winning side of bookkeeping, so what?
