On a more serious note, I posted an update on the original announcement. Nothing earth shattering, just start thinking about pretenders, as we probably won’t start playing until after the holidays.

It was down, along with all other games on my server. Should be back now. I’m a little leery of this server’s stability though, I still have no explanation for why it rebooted itself a grand total of 5 times in a 4 hour period today. Seems to have been stable since, so I guess it could have been flaky power to my house. If it was something in the server giving out though we might see more outages to come.

But anyway, for the moment it’s game on for Lanka, Jeff, and Crom.

Plus immortality, and they can be used to generate free chaff, though I can’t remember if this needs a “summon allies” turn to work.

The free chaff is pretty useless in late as every soldier wears heavy armor and something to smash heavy armor… as i have seen last time as rlyeh, chaff isnt even good as a speed bump…

The point of the chaff for LA Ulm (as I see it anyway) is that it gives you free patrollers. The vampire counts blood hunt and generate their own patrollers to summon more counts to blood hunt more. As commanders they are very handy too; stealthy, flying, with good command ratings for undead, normal, AND magical troops.

Also the chaff morale is really high so if you have mass protection or aren’t facing archers they can be used to to boost the average morale.

Anyone got any advice for taking on EA Caelum as Arcoscephale? It’s on a smallish map (Dawn), with lategame magic. Assume it’s 1 vs 1.

I’m not sure what magic he took on his pretender (I suspect earth + astral), but he definitely has at least E5 by now – he dropped a pair of Earth Attacks on me last turn.

At a guess, he’s probably relying on either A) eagle kings, or B) mammoths. Mammoths don’t scare me, given my cheap and ubiquitous astral mages; that leaves EKs, who fly, are immune to shock and resistant to cold, have excellent MR, and can cast Wrathful Skies out of the box with Storm Power or an extra gem. Heck, they can even fight hand-to-hand, given they have awe.

Their only downsides that I can see are their cost, and the fact that they’re capital only – almost like Niefel Jarls, in that sense. They are magic beings, but melee with moon blades is tricky (they can cast Storm to prevent most fliers reaching them).

I have submitted my current turn, and I’m off to a secluded cabin in the woods tomorrow afternoon. Will be back by mid-Sunday, so I would appreciate it if Nick would turn off the timer once the current turn runs.

I might be able to sneak in a turn while I’m away, as apparently our secluded cabin in the woods has WiFi (what a country, eh?). But I have no idea if it will actually work, and dom3 is not going to be very high on the priority list anyway.
