That’s what I’m discovering too, so it might be awhile.

Though in a related story, Caelum just learned that Mammoths leave something to be desired. Or maybe skinshifters are just that great of a unit.

They really need HEAVY infantry backup.

(pachyderms, that is)

Seeing no way to really recover before Patala could finish the job, I decided to set myself AI and bow out of the game. I could have played that start better even before getting bum-rushed by elephants, but full credit to Rollory for hastening my inevitable departure. :)

QT3-Jeff

For those who didn’t notice, I went AI. The game was a boring exercise in futility for me. My pretender has been dead for awhile (astral corruption) and I’d dumped all my resources into equipping her up as a wisher. It would have literally cost me hundreds of astral gems to get her back into the position she was in, which was S9 and able to cast wish.

I had thought to stick out the game just so my suddenly AI controlled nation wouldn’t be disruptive but then I got too apathetic to take turns and realized my staling was probably going to annoy the remaining active players too, so AI I went.

That’s the last time I’m going to play an underwater nation.

Haha I remember playing Ry’leh in a world map game (I forget the game name, I THINK is was Dom2 actually), getting a couple of wishers, then after a few dozen turns of increasingly high powered warfare I was like, “hey, I wonder what would happen if cast Amageddon 3 times on the same turn?”

Next turn, 85% of my own casters were dead, including my wishers… ooops!!

That was a bad idea…

Yoo the idea of an underwaternation sounds pretty cool but after all is said and done its only turteling and trying desperate to get a foothold on land without been kicked back in the sea…

With all the clams I’m sure you had, was it that great a strech? Regardless, I’m curious, did you loose her by unknowingly casting something the same turn AC went up, or did you risk casting something after knowing it was up and hoped to beat the horror in a fight?

Eh, I didn’t so much mind the stalling as 48 hours is a nice schedule regardless. I just wish you’d publicly announced it sooner. Then, I’d be expanding into the sea instead of trying my luck against TC. C’est la vie.

Hoped to beat the horror. She died the very last turn AC was up. I had actually beaten a string of horrors as she forged up her rings of wizardry, sorcery, and assorted other magic boosting items to get up to S9. Then I threw down the first wish and met one of the unique named horrors who did something bad on the first round that made her turn and run. Sort of sad because I think she could have maybe won a straight fight, she was scripted and equipped for horror fighting.

Couldnt we kick of a new Dawn of Dominions game? The map is pretty cool and to know where everyone is starting and with what gives it an boardgame feel…

I wouldn’t have gone for the throat like that if you hadn’t had so much trouble expanding early on. My original plans were rather different. But as it was, there was a definite window of opportunity.

How do you script to fight a horror? Spam Opposition or Soul Slay?

Script things that give you Regen, MR, luck, and assorted other important defenses and then hit it with frozen heart or other spells that do direct damage with no MR and no miss chance. Works on the regular and lesser horrors, especially when it’s being done by a N9/W9/S9 pretender. Named unique horrors, not so much apparently.

You know, one of my N. Jarls (outfitted and in the hall of heroes at some time or another) got randomly attacked by the “Eater of Heroes” or something like that. He wasn’t horror marked or casting a spell, so I don’t know why that happened. Surprisingly, he won. Got horror marked, of course, but for the time still alive. Made me have a bit of a different perspective regarding AC…

I think the one who attacked you was just particularly nasty.

Tsk, tsk, Caelum. Your jealousy is most unbecoming. Simply becuase my elephants are beautiful smooth-skinned angels of pachydermity basking in the warm sunshine and moist jungle air, while yours are horrible furry freaks living in places far too cold for any creature with sense, there’s no call to take out their poor misbegotten misery on me.

I think those two phenomena are related.

Just because they’re a little fuzzy round the edges doesn’t mean my mammoths are heartless. They wanted to frolick with their Patalan brethren, so felt I had to oblige them. I’m sure a little rough and tumble will convince you of their charms.

Bogus the Troll and his little band of buttholes has been seiging my capital for the past 10 turns or so. But this is the turn he meets his maker. (I hope.) Just wondering: if I do defeat his band, will I get to keep all the equipment he and his dudes are weilding?

It is subject to the same rules that usually apply if you kill a leader with a magic item, but yes you can end up with some of their stuff.

What you really want to do is charm them (probably too early in your game, though, or you’d have already blasted him off your capital). Two of the commanders have the old dom 1 order “attack commanders”, which you can clone and give as an order to any of your own commanders.

Some people consider this cheating, but they are just dom3 weenies. In dom2, people did this every chance they got (not too often, really), and no one ever complained.
