Crom: admin question
Should we extend the timer to 72 hours?
He took his turn, for better or worse. :)
I should have flown. Not a good turn for the once-mighty Agartha. Don’t listen to the sob stories of my enemies…they will soon have me on my kneeses, begging for mercy.
Arco’s Air Queens are too nasty and Nief’s 30+ giant army looks about ready to roll over my northern holdings. It took a whole bunch of Umbrals to kill a SINGLE Neif commander so I don’t have very high hopes of killing off what’s coming 'round the bend.
No matter what happens, I ain’t going down without a fight. So prepare for some scrapes and bruises on your way to the “W” over Agartha!

Arco did win the big fight of the turn. But I see you failed to mention a big army of umbrals that you’ve snuck way deep in my territory. Umbrals seem ridiculously cheap/powerful. 65 HP, life drain, stealthy, undead and ethereal w/ high morale /mr. At conj 5 for 2 death gems! yowza. no wonder there are tons. gotta learn how to counter those.
Just like you’ll have to figure out how to stop the air queens.
Never mind that army…
True, Umbrals are cheap and effective but they’ll do me no good if they get bolted to death before reaching the AQ’s. They are dumb and enjoy standing around wondering what to do. I also thought Darkness would have been more effective…
Hmm, what else can I try?
I (Ermor, in the southwest) am under attack by Helheim. He’s got a significant force of Helhirdings sieging my capital.
In case any of his other neighbours would like to take the opportunity to take a crack at him, I doubt he has many forces ready to defend his western provinces.

Crom note:
I had Nick to reset the timer to 72 hours. Game is in the late stages and turns take more time. All future turns will be 72 hours so hopefully this will help. Game is still moving at a good clip but I thought an extra day will those of us who sometimes get stressed by the 48 deadline approaching.

Is anyone still playing this game? It looks like it’s run a few turns with no human turns submitted at all.
I think Helheim went idle some time ago, and C’tis PMed me to say that he was dropping out of the game, as he couldn’t spare the time for it. Ulm went AI even before that (and was then swallowed up by me), and Abysia is down to one or two provinces.
So, yeah, if nobody minds, I guess we can call it wraps. (I would appreciate it if you could zip up a copy of the game folder - complete with the fatherland file - and maybe email it to those of us who are interested, so we can take a look at each others’ final positions!).
Thanks! Got a couple of projects coming due and that other thing, uh, what do they call it? Oh, yeah, “TAXES”, so the extra 24 hours will be helpful.
So what happened in the end of Hoplite? Being one of the starting players I’d be curious to know.
Helheim jumped Abysia and crossed the sea with bane lord raiders, an Air Queen, and a modest conventional army. Abysia was doing a pretty good job of repelling him (I think you were around for that), up until C’tis joined the fray. The C’tissian invasion proved the sack of anvils that broke the camel’s back: Abysia’s main army was far away near my border, so from what I saw, C’tis encountered little opposition. I sat on the sidelines until it appeared that Abysia was doomed, at which point I jumped in so that C’tis and Helheim wouldn’t get the loot all to themselves.
We had another short period of peace after that, interspersed with mopping up Abysian remnants, but then Ulm went AI. I promptly invaded… at exactly the same time the AI got the idea. It wasn’t QUITE as easy as I thought it would be: my initial invasion wave was beaten back in a number of provinces, putting paid to my hopes of a one-turn blitzkrieg. I ended up summoning up a couple of large armies, with mage support, and methodically marching them through Ulm, storming castles along the way, with adjacent provinces guarded by stacks of several thugs.
As I was a couple of turns away from finishing Ulm, the hitherto-quiet Helheim brought up an Arcane Nexus. The threat was short-lived; Helheim lapsed back into idleness, I dispelled the Nexus (with some help from C’tis), and polished off Ulm. We didn’t have a very long breathing spell before C’tis invaded me, with a raiding force of 9 or so iron dragons, one GORed and serving as the commander, plus a large conventional army, and his three Air Queens. I took down the Iron Dragon stack in a Shadow of the Colossus-worthy fight, using one bane lord and one tartarian… mustered my forces for a counterattack… prepared to unleash a few nasty surprises of my own… but that only went for a turn or three, before C’tis PMed me to make things official.

How long do we wait for Adam Altmann to take his turn before setting it back to 48hr timeout?
