Mistspell can definitely go back on a timer by me. I didn’t realize anyone was waiting on me. :)

connecting to morningstar still freezing Dom3. weird.

You probably know it, but just in case - you need to keep that frozen Dom3 window in place, and launch another instance of Dom3 in order to connect to morning star. That’s how it has been working for me for the last few turns. This MP synchronization bug is surely annoying.

Okay strike that–I should have said over 400 “missle troops” to be exact. And there is 1 province between my capital (former) and Caelum.

BTW, nice Air Queen.

Even with a hammer, sans forge, a clam would take 14 turns to pay off - and you’d forgo 1/5th of a water queen plus one and a half vine ogres, whom you could have used to conquer more gem sites. (Would that we did have compound interest - or more guns-or-butter - mechanics in this game - I would love more options for investing spare cash or gems.)

But could you possibly conquer enough gem sites to produce 100+ astral pearls / turn by the late game? I rather doubt it.

Clamming can be a winning strategy in the right conditions, but it can also be a losing strategy if you get caught up in wars before your clams really start to pay off. On the other hand, I personally never clam-hoard, because it feels like a cheap and cheesy way to win.

And yet it looks to me like Illwinter designed Patala to REQUIRE clam hoarding. Their national summons range from 25 pearls for a crappy 2air/2astral summon to 50+ for the decent ones - and even “decent” means middle-range compared to Tartarians or the elemental royalty (and apparently, Jomon has ALL of those already). There’s no way you’re going to get that kind of income from site searching.

Patala also has blood summons - very expensive blood summons - but no recruitable blood casters, and no cheap summonable blood casters (the best I’ve found in test games is Vampire Lords, at 77 a pop), so that takes even longer to make it pay off.

Morningstar - I think I staled last turn due to not being able to sync to MP. Don’t know what to do about this - shall we take the game off timer till it’s sorted?

It is something that’s been affecting my Dom3 client for a while with Morning Star game. I am also experiencing it sometimes with other Dom3 MP games I am currently playing.

Have you tried the suggestion that I made in my reply to your post? (see above) It always works for me.

yep tried it - the problem i have is the dom3 freeze is just that - freezes the whole system. have to reboot…so the second window not really working out for me :(

Are you running Dom3 in a window mode or in a full-screen mode? (the checkbox in Dom3 game settings) In a full-screen mode it also used to freeze my system - I couldn’t alt-tab out of it or invoke task manager. So I had to switch to playing in windowed mode, which has solved the problem for me.

Mist Spell

Ok, I’ll PM Marcin to place the game back on the timer. Everybody please take their turns.

Hmmm to connect to morningstar i start dom 3— it freezes; i open the Taskmanager (Strg/Alt/Alt/Del) and cancel dom 3, after starting it again im able to connect…

Hope this helps if your system freezes, it shouldnt freeze completly.

I wish I had all the ERs. :) And for that matter, I wish I had Wish… right now, I feel like the Western Roman Empire in BI. An ever-increasing number of ever-more-powerful nations are all out to get me. :D

Nobody has objections to my asking Marcin to extend the timer?

I thought clam hording was pretty much taboo in MP around here…

I’m going to ask him to turn it off entirely this weekend for a week, as I’ll have only erratic access during that time.

I don’t think so. As much as people might like to grumble about this or that tactic QT3 is pretty good about not trying to build all sorts of silly unofficial rules around MP games. If the game lets you do it, you can do it. If you don’t like that the game lets you do it, go post on the illwinter forums ;-)

I seem to recall that a lot of dom2 games here were played under “Rywill’s Rule of Labs” - which said that gems could not be transferred from a commander to a lab. But with the cost and path increases that came with dom3, they seem not quite so unbalancing.

Plus, the very gods themselves seem to conspire against clammers around here. Ask Nick and Greatatlantic how their clamming strategies in QT3:Jeff were foiled by what can only be described as massive divine interventions.

Heh, yeah I didn’t do so hot in Jeff. I have been on the receiving end of a whipping by a clammer though and I don’t resent the tactic. In Dom2 there was a game where I was sure I was cruising to an easy victory as Pythium. Had a lot of the map, had a great endgame magic plan, was crushing my opponents one by one in a methodical fashion. Everything was groovy. Then poor little disregarded Rlyeh unleashed his horde of Gift-of-Reasoned well equipped abominations. Scattered all my good armies, pinned my major fortresses under sieges I couldn’t break to eliminate my recruitment, and generally fucked my once mighty empire in a very short span. That taught me the value of clamming if done right.

Something similar happens to me with Morningstar.
