My new machine has arrived, so I should be able to start doing Inquisitor turns regularly again, shortly.

Ok, I’ll ask Marcin to take Mist Spell off of the timer until you can play your turn.
Marcin patched, so everyone else should as well. From what I’ve read, Tartarians go insane occassionally. I’m all for that :)
Since Inquisitor will presumably come back onto a timer soon, I’ve PMed Marcin to ask for a longer duration on the timer. :)

Power is back on at the homestand after some 32 hours of no power. Air conditioning is nirvana and makes you wonder how the hell anyone lived in the potomac swamp when you didn’t have AC (maybe it was cooler with them trees and no cars thingies).
I’ll take my turn sometime in the next 20 hours. gotta have the pleasant job of sorting through the fridge and good times like that.

The server is working again, and there are 12 hours left until the next turn, with 6 players still to do their turns.
Perhaps hosting should be delayed for 24 hours, as it seems the new turn email did not get sent out.
Yeah, I staled. I didn’t get a notification. :(
Ugh… Caelum getting two turns in a row was not very good for my hopes. Bad timing for a glitch like this.

Caelum has so far retaken 3 of the 10 provinces I captured during my underwater offensive. I had a small victory this turn when I killed an Eagle King supercombatant, hopefully the first of many.
The anti-Caelum alliance is not in great shape at the moment. Ermor is hanging on in his last fort, whilst Sauromatia, Fomoria and Mictlan hold 2, 3 and 4 castles respectively. In contrast, Caelum has about 16.
Abysia has 5 forts, but would seem to be either staling turns or doing nothing.
Enjoy your victory while it lasts. >;)
I think I can disclose my current strategy without causing too much harm to myself. Since I am in war with the whole world I am repeating my earlier tactic - containing most of the enemy nations, pestering them with raiders and throwing back their invading hordes that are threatening to penetrate my defences, while concentrating most of my available resources on knocking one of my opponents out of the war. Ermor is pretty much gone, and now is the Sauromatia’ turn.
Since I missed the last turn and couldn’t view it, would you mind sharing with me how you took over so many of my provinces (two turns ago), and how you killed my water Tartartian who was near your capital?
Sure.
Your provinces were mostly defended by regular troops, which I have killed with my mini-SCs Eagle Kings, as I’ve often done before. Against your weaker 1-slot flying tartarians I have sent Air Queen with Aegis, backed by commander with Storm Sword to prevent your beasts from flying.
Your main tartarian near my capital, who have repelled my first attempt to kill him, lacked fire protection and regeneration. So I have sent Eagle King with Mage Bane after him, backed by Air 5 Eagle King scripted to cast phantom wolves and by druids (swarms) to provide distraction. Meanwhile my King of Elemental Fire stayed back and slowly incinirated your tartarian, while he was whacking at flies and illusionary wolves, and trying to hit my hige defence mirror-imaged Eagle King.
Thanks, David. I appreciate that.
No problem, you are welcome.
Sorry for the noob question, but what race/strategy is most forgiving for beginners?
Oh there’s a few canned strategies that are pretty easy to implement. Helheim with a strong fire/water bless comes to mind. Just build sacreds and send them out in raiding groups to raise holy hell.
A mighty battle at the Tien Chi capital fortress results in the deaths of over a dozen commanders and 300 units. Arcoscephale (wahoo) is the victor, and Tien Chi (me) has nothing left with which to fight on.
The giants, in the north, are the last hope for stopping Arcoscephale. But the fifteen year war between the giants and Tien Chi, which ended (miraculously) in a truce, knocked the stuffing out of both nations, and the giants have probably not had the time to recover.
Agartha (Guildboss) in the east is similarly destroyed.
Good game, wahoo, unless LazyShiftlessBastard is able to come back!

Crom:
Just for the record, Agartha has some sizable forces but they don’t have many provinces, have just 2 forts and don’t have their capitol. most of their troops are now indies like archers and even militia. I can take them but will take a few turns as I’ve only got one of my major armies over there. Agartha is also stalling and understandably isn’t in the game as much.
LSB as the Giants has 2 main armies in the field and they definitely whomped me pretty hard in the first encounter. On the flip side, it was more of a pyrrhic victory b/c it’s a lot easier for me to replace my troops than it is for them to replace their holy giants. Crom also has a pair of air queens and a flying tart manticore and water queen #1 in the Giants backfield.
I’d like to offer Agartha and The Giants an honorable surrender as I believe my position is pretty insurmountable given my massive gem income, SCs and research. The TC-Argarthan war on the Giants fatally hamstrung both TC and the Giants. The Giants have made a great comeback considering how far they were down at one pt in the game.
Also, kudos to Dave, who I partnered with early, where he took Mictlan’s capitol and became one of the dominant powers until the ill-fated Giant War that sapped TC’s might.
Been a good free-flowing game with 3 different leaders from Agartha, TC and finally Arco.
So what say you LSB and Guildboss? Shall we call it day or do you wish to continue?
I like Late Era Marignon for a newbie nation, although Middle Era Marignon isn’t bad either.
You get fire mages, blood magic, cheap crossbows, good flanking cavalry, spies, assassins, inquisitors, shipleaders (can travel over water with troops), fantastic sacred troops in Flagellants, and a cool unique Pretender with the cheapest double bless in the game.
Take the Baphomet w/ 9 Fire and 9 Astral, imprisoned, probably 3 Order, 1 or 2 Misfortune, and throw in a couple of notches of whatever, Heat maybe, and there you go. Be sure to take 10 Dominion as well. Fire-blessed Flagellants do die in large numbers, but they’re cheap and can cut through virtually anything basic in the early game, and are a great way to expand quickly and cheaply, and also kill lots of supposedly good national troops early in the game (like Giants, for ex.) Hardcore players would probably discourage going Astral and instead push to diversify your Pretender’s magic, but honestly you’re not going to win against the veterans and it’s better to have a strong early game than play a weak early nation as a newbie hoping to bootstrap your lategame like a vet does.
Vanheim is one of the better early nations, but i’m not sure if Van has ever won a Qt3 game, have they? Vans are very expensive, and you’ll kill a couple nations for sure with them. But it seems, as if by magic (pun intended), Vanheim finds itself washed up around the latter part of the middle game.
Alan, I like the one with the horsies.
At this point I suppose I’ll have to agree that you’ve probably won, but I’d like to at least use my army once or twice.
It’s been a fun game, even with the war of attrition between me and Dave that went on most of the game. I would like to say though, Niefelheim has got to have the worst PD I’ve ever seen. I claim a moral victory for being undefeated in the field so far, though. ;)
