OK, I’m almost ready to announce a new Dominions game. Just two last ideas before I draw up the list of game features and, most importantly, come up with a clever injoke name.

  1. Would anyone consider playing with the Conceptual Balance Mod (v1.3). Its a pretty popular mod at Shrapnel that attempts to balance the game better for MP, and gives incentives to use less often used units and Pretenders and increases the number of heroes a nation can get. At the bottom is a list of the changes it makes “at-a-glance.”

  2. I’m still going to say no Ermor or R’lyeh. Both nations are overpowered and an incredible pain to fight.

*Growth/death and productivity/sloth have slightly higher impact on direct gold income.

*Slight increase in luck/misfortune’s effect on number of events and event quality.

*Many weapons moved from construction 4 and 6 to 2 and 0.

*Magic bow ammunition doubled, and other improvements to them.

*Sandals of the crane and bell of cleansing no longer artifacts, hammer of the mountains made an artifact (with greatly increased damage).

*Gloves of the gladiator, wave breaker and serpent kryss have more attacks.

*Star of thralldom and star of heroes much improved area of effect.

*Majority of troop summons, especially low level ones, cheaper.

*Domes much easier to cast.

*Many globals easier to cast/cheaper (applies to almost all globals, except those that generate gems and a few others like forge of the ancients and gift of health).

*Direct damage blood battlefield magic improved (hellfire, blood burst, harm, etc).

*A few troop summons made commanders (great eagle, kappa, amphiptere, kithaironic lion, demon jester).

*Improved accuracy for frost, arcane, fire and shadow bolts.

*‘Hold’ spells such as false fetters and bolts of fire improved.

*Low level troop protection wards no longer cost a gem.

*Touch of madness and rage now cost a gem, to limit unintended AI casting.

*Exactly two general spells are harder to cast: Forge of the ancients and flaming arrows.

*Many cloud spells have greater area of effect.

*Titan pretenders (those size 6, and completely human in form) 25-50 points cheaper, some with added paths, gem generation, or free troop summoning.

*Rainbows (those with pathcost 10) have added paths, research bonuses, and most 20-30 points cheaper.

*Moloch, Prince of Death, Gorgon (as very-easy-expansion chassis) cost more.

*Cylops (both a very-easy-to-expand-with and an easy-bless chassis) higher new path cost.

*Phoenix is reborn in battle with phoenix pyre.

*Troops wielding a single one handed weapon and no shield made 1 gold cheaper.

*Troops wielding a spear made 1 gold cheaper.

*Melee troops with very light armor made 1 gold cheaper.

*National military commanders cheaper/improved, basic independant commanders slightly more expensive.

*Assassins made cheaper, seduction more likely.

*Many heroes improved (contains Worthy Heroes).

*Sacred glamour cavalry more expensive.

*Some archers with normal or above average melee statistic tweaked downward.

*Elephants and mammoths somewhat more expensive and tire more easily.

I’d play with that mod as long as I can continue to not have any idea what any of it means.

Is there still time to join a game?
I’d like in.

So im not able to choose Rlyeh and kick nick´s ass around the map :( didnt you had those incredible overpowered ermorians in that game?

I’d like to join. LA Bogarus is my pick.

One suggestion - if we decide to allow LA R’lyeh to play lets not have one massive ocean in the middle of the map. Perhaps split the sea provinces into several large lakes, having all the sea provinces in one area will just make the inevitable squid domination that much easier.
I’m in favour of allowing all races, but only because I want to see what all the fuss is about regarding Ermor and R’lyeh.
Also lets try a wraparound map this time. I don’t want to be the chump that gets to start in the middle…

The vote went to a Wraparound, so thats what I’ll work with. Anyways, here’s the thread where poster after poster proclaimed the crazy power of R’lyeh: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=38102 .

As for the time I played Ermor, it was a MA game, sort of like the one we’re playing now and where I had no objection to Ron Derby using Ermor. Ermor still gets undead, but he actually has to use a priest’s turn to summon it.

i’ll put in for LA Man - i’m starting to get the hang of MA Man, just in time for my demise ;)

I’d like to join as Midgård, so I can try to improve on my dismal showing in Pax Ermor.

Re: The Conceptual Balance Mod: I’m not sure I want to learn even more stuff when my grasp of vanilla Dom3 still isn’t very strong, but the changes generally look interesting, so I’ll go along with the majority opinion.

New Game.

I’ll take Utgard or Pangea. Need to check em out and see which I like more…
I’m definitely down with the conceptual balance mod.

I’ll reserve LA Gath for myself, unless someone else really wants it. I don’t mind switching.

If we’re picking, I’d like to play Atlantis.

I’d like LA Pan unless Guildboss wants it. Otherwise I’ll take LA: ?

PAX

Nations of the world, Machaka continue to fend off the advances of the horror from beneath the sea. If anyone has a coastline and the ability and means to raid the squids, we would be grateful for relief. All reasonable surrender options have been rejected.

What? we have rejected your surrender? when?

If you want to surrender your capitol to us no prob just do it… hehe

Fearful because youre mages start dying? tsk tsk tsk only a few killing attempts and you are crying for help… the last battle was won by you so there is still hope… ;)

We rlyehs are a little bit like those englunders we lose every mayor battle BUT the last one…

If there isnt a one area sea rlyeh is dead at the start of the game…

oh and if we ban rlyeh we should ban atlantis too because they will conquer the waves before anybody else AND they have landholdings with no prob getting out of water because they are allready at start out…

Remember, Remember the Fifth of November
If we don’t start by then, we won’t finish until 2010

I certainly recognize that driving your raiders back into the sea isn’t success. I can’t make any headway with you raiding all my lands. I can’t hit back. I asked for terms and you refused.

I’m not trying to whine or cry, I’m just giving out free scouting reports.

Your success with mind hunt has been about 50%. I would have thought you would do better than that. Assassination attempts don’t scare Black Sorcerers who just change to spider form and endure. That’s about as effective as horror marking the big snake was. Bring as many of those as you want.

Nope i believe mind hunting is much better… 50% is fair enough… and you still cannot fight back ;)
