Nothing to me. The problem is I don’t have a password for his Pretender to pass off to a sub. Plus, with Thanksgiving almost here its hard to find an appropriate sub or even resume play. If I haven’t heard from him by Monday, I’ll start discussing options.

I wasn’t suggesting that he isn’t coming back - he’s been a pretty reliable player for some time. I was just wondering if he’d managed to make it to an internet cafe to send a pm to anyone.

I didn’t think so either, and for a ton of reasons (some more selfish than others) I really hope he gets his PC situation worked out. I’m just trying to think ahead about what to do if he vanishes off the internet. Waiting weeks or months is not an ideal option.

He pm’ed me from a public library and told me to tell you all to sod off. Not sure what that means but when I asked a policeman, he got angry.

You said “sod off” to a policeman? So basically you said he has a small shotgun…nice!

Since Wahoo doesn’t seem to be back yet, and if he is Pan as the list posted earlier says, the timer for Fifth of November should probably be suspended as well.

Pax game is offline due to server hardware issues. Hopefully to return tomorrow.

As always - thanks for running the server for us.

(have finally switched MAN to ai)

Well, Man was born, looked to the west (huzzah, Man is in a corner…), rushed to the east, met the Machakan who swiftly struck a deal that honest Man took up and proved his downfall.

For the Machakan had sold half his claim to the Eriun, so that they both shared Man’s border.

To the west, Man was astonished when the Abyssian showed up on his doorstep. So much for being in a corner. Man, realising the imminent threat to the east, struck up eternal friendship with the fiery ones to avoid a war on two fronts.

The Machakan voided the nap, and simultaneously the spider and the Eriun struck. Man had prepared an army big on mortal strength, but lacking in magic. Facing the vast horde of the Machakan spiders, Man’s cavalry routed the right wing and collapsed his centre, destroying the machakan army and the unholy prophet.

But pride comes before a fall, and rather than sit upon his sweet victory, Man fell upon the Eriun army to deal a decisive blow to this axis of eastern evil.

The Eriun, strong in lightning, repelled Man’s attack and killed his weak and insipid pretender who had been schooled in all the wrong magic and had not spent his childhood outdoors.

Man needed help. Hearing of wars further to the east, he contacted the Ashdod and supplied them with lightning rings so that they, too, could hold back the Eriun. He summoned the Void to land to attack the Machakan.

All this came to pass, and yet Man could not defeat the Eriun.

Legends of the Carthaginians inspired Man - he slipped his army past the Eriun and attacked his heartland, heading for the capital. At the same time, his ally Ashdod, sieged the Eriun capital. But at the precise moment of victory, the Ashdod pulled back from the alliance to fight a war elsewhere.

Man had lost.

hhmmm. Manchaka will shortly follow to AI.

We both read the map as a corner. Thinking I COULD clear one front before fighting on the other, I thought I would clear that corner. I was surprised you were able to break that Spider Cavalry army with my prophet, but thought it a temporary setback.

Then the seafolk came. Knowing that you brought them eases my mind. You had a major impact on the Ashdad war as well. Very well done. Nicely played.

Once the seafolk started raiding, I was done. I held him off as long as I could, but I couldn’t strike back and as soon as I crushed one force, another came ashore elsewhere.

In the end, the big worm just wasn’t able to get me out to a big enough lead.

See you next time.

Oh interesting fun times. I’m sorry if you didn’t notice that I cheated with the map to ensure it was a ring and turned a lake province into land. It was a move to reduce the traditional advantage of starting in a corner. As for my own part in your downfall… I/Pythium had a few strategic objectives that I based my diplomacy and military strategy around.

  1. Do not loose territory, ever, and find opportunities to gain territory.
  2. Avoid wars of attrition. Win quickly with overwhelming force and alliance or negotiate a truce and try again later.
  3. Ron Derby(Ermor) is a dangerous player in the lead with territory and income. CONTAINMENT!
  4. Wahoo (Bandar Log to my South) is a good player with similarly sized nation to mine. Avoid war with him with out allies or violate number 2. Furthermore, Ermor is to his south and a weak Wahoo conflicts with CONTAINMENT policy. Do not war with Wahoo while Ermor remains strong.
  5. My north is crowded (Ashdod, Vanheim, and Erie, with Machaka not to far). Avoid entagling conflicts.
  6. Ashdod (to my north) is a powerful nation in the short term and long term. Do not let Ashdod consolidate the north. Better yet, eliminate Ashdod outright.
  7. R’lyeh is problematic due to difficulty in attacking an entrenched sea nation. Get an NAP. Also, he borders Ermor, potential for use in CONTAINMENT policy.

I originally left war with Ashdod (and took some territory) believing no clear victor would emerge in the squable for some time. However, it soon became clear Ashdod would beat both Erie and Vanheim (Erie’s distraction to the west was not forseen by me). Whose stupid enough to willingly involve themselves in a two front war?

Anyways, with Ashdod on the ropes, R’lyeh emerging as a power in its own right, and Wahoo MIA… I haven’t decided on how to adjust my policy.

Who’s stupid enough? Not me. I’ve only been fighting three-front wars in this game.

Smoochies,

Garnet Cattail
Enchantress of Eriu

I don’t hold you responsible at all for my downfall. I asked you for a bit of help in containing R’lyeh, but that wouldn’t have really helped me and it wasn’t convenient for you at the time.

R’lyeh took me down and good for him. I DO find it interesting that Man encouraged the intervention. I suspected that somebody had brought him in, I just wasn’t entirely sure who.

Pax is back online, though the server may still be flaky.

Just a reminder to everyone in Pax Ermor,

The server is working again, so please take your turns. We still have four players who haven’t done so yet. I know the server has been flaky and we’ve been delaying due to Wahoo’s PC situation, but the goal is still a 48 hour auto-host, so please take those turns!

Hmm if im honest the plan to invade someone was there… that it was machaka had more to do with an instacastle near you than anything else… ;) that man was so loud crying for help was a moraleboost. I thought he would hold other adversaries out of my hair until i crushed you and i think he did.

Evil Steve, I just wanted to say that I enjoyed our war. When our biggest armies bypassed each other and headed toward each other’s capitals, I thought, “Yeah! This is why this game is awesome, right here.” I think I did the right thing by continuing to your capital, and you did the right thing by turning around – but storms + lightning beat arrows, and no one intervened to save you, because Pythium went after Ashdod who had to turn away from fighting me.

My hat is off to you, fine sir! And also to Mercutio, as Ashdod, who fought brilliantly under extreme duress since the very beginning of the game.

…and I tug my forelock to the superior strategist. good times.

Man will no longer be penned by Bogarus. We call on those who wish to seek advantage from our ancient quarrel to strike.

MAN

I’m finding it really hard to get motivated to prepare turns on the current “maybe wahoo will pop in an play a turn this weekend” schedule.

Is there any chance we could just put the game on hold until he is able to commit to a 72-hour timer? (and I would prefer 72 hours over 48 at this point)
