Fine, If I’m reading my manual correctly, and assumming Earthquake checks against a defense value of 10, then only 18% will hit.
I should have asked: how do you know that Defense has anything to do with success against Earthquake? Sounds like GA found that it does, in the manual. Still, if you don’t know the formula for defending against Earthquake, how would you know there’s a “decent chance” at all? So I assumed you knew the formula, or something like a formula.
I’m just glad I’m across the map from you and your decent chances. :)

Oh yeah, I had the same experience discovering that earthquake is crap against undead cavalry. Acid storm, however, works like the dickens. Rain of stones is probably worth a shot too, no defence check against that.
I’m tempted to ask if there’s any way to see if Dire Aussie and ron_derby have the same IP address, because R’lyeh could not have developed a national strategy more favorable to Ermor winning. On the otherhand, a more plausible explanation is sheer stupidity. The like I’ve only ever seen out of Hetzer. Ermor was the clear board leader and was in the process of finishing his war against Bandar Log. Instead of making common cause against a clear common enemy, he invaded me removing both nations capable of effectively challenging him at this point as the expend resources fighting each other.
For the rest of the Pax Ermor world, now is not the time to be sitting on the sidelines. Tear up your NAPs and start hammering these beligerent powers both hell bent on letting Ermor coast to victory.

I’m offended by the suggestion that we have the same IP address - come over to OctopusOverlords and you’ll see two games in which I have bested over Ron Debry (granted, I was playing overpowered races, but beat him nonetheless :) )

Stupidity on your behalf, and lack of diplomacy? The first message you sent me was a warning along the lines of “renew your NAP with me, if you instead attack me I’ll take all your land provinces”. You didnt even reply to my second message (which definitely sent properly since its still sitting in my sent box). You never made any offers of cooperation against ermor in your one and only message. You have sat on your heels while you watch Bandar being destroyed by Ermor. ONLY NOW when you realise your folly do you come crying on here whining about Ermor becoming a super power.
I was more than willing to go after Ermor. But The Friendly Empire of Ermor is indeed that, Friendly, and open to diplomacy, replied to my messages very timely etc etc. Why bother allying with you if you dont even reply to me, dont even make the effort? I think I told Ron about 2 times how I was waiting on a reply from you before I made a decision about an alliance, well the reply never came and Ron’s offer of destroying the 2nd most powerful player in the game was too good to refuse. Even if you somehow never got my 2nd message, you never sent a query regarding my buildup in my castle or anything else; if you wanted my support against Ermor you certainly never showed it. I’m a player that likes to banter, and I know from previous games that a player that never sends you messages or doesnt reply makes a poor ally, or more likely has ulterior motives.
Ermor is going to be pretty monstrous when he’s done with Bandar and yourself, but by that time I’m hoping everyone remaining will ally against him - I’ll certainly be attacking him and am planning for that even now. The other nations will simply have to get their act in gear if they want a chance of stopping him, I know I wont be able to do it alone. Cross fingers that we’ll be enough to stop his final domination.

Hey genius, how are the other nations going to attack Ermor, when you and a rather weak Shin will be the only countries bordering Ermor? The only way for Ulm to reach Ermor is through Shin or through you. Erieu is going to be cut off by you to reach Ermor.
And the idea that you became the lapdog with the major power of the game b/c he was the friendliest is odd. He has the most to lose so of course he’s the friendliest.
Uh, twice?? Oh, yeah, well, OK - twice. But, but, but: the first one was after I came in as a late sub for an Agartha who had made waay too many enemies. No one was willing to stop and re-think about what Niefel was about to accomplish.
You did open a serious can of whup-ass on me the second time - is that one over yet?
Once you make it 3-for-3, I’ll probably have to retire :)
Not if he takes the eastern provinces.
Exactly.
I dont think its any secret that Shin has been ineffective against Ermor. But that’s Ulm’s decision to make. If Ulm attacks me then Ermor’s chance of winning increases since I doubt there will be much chance of reconciliation between Pythium and I after this little blowout :) So the Pythium-R’lyeh war will continue even if Ulm tries to expand in water and Ermor will become ever more powerful as he finished Bandar and takes out the weakened Pythium. Personally I think Ulm’s best chance of winning is if he takes Shinu now while the rest of us are engaged with each other.
Friendliness certainly helps :) But in this case I was just humouring Ermor’s ongoing theme that he made up for himself. Open communications and willingness to deal is what’s really important.
Anyway lets reverse the situation: say I attack Ermor. Now Pythium gets to continue his free ride, building up seraphs etc while you and I slug it out against Ermor. Say I have success against Ermor. Suddenly I’m leader in provinces, gems and income graphs. I become the big and nasty water nation that needs to be stopped. You, Pythium, Ulm and Eriu ally against me and I die.
I actually think I have more of a chance by allying with Ermor than with you and Pythium.
And why do you not call out Pythium for not helping in your war? Sure he may have sent you a few gems to make Rudras but he could have done a lot more for you during the time that R’lyeh had no player. Why am I the one to blame? Was Pythium really ever going to be your saving grace? I dont think so.
Edit: In fact I dont actually blame Pythium for not helping you since it was you that assaulted Ermor, not the other way around. What I do blame Pythium for is coming on here now and blaming me for attacking him instead of Ermor even though he has not actively lifted a finger against Ermor himself.
More or less ;) Arco has been too loyal an ally and I think he’s left it too late (still hasnt attacked me yet while I freely eat up Atlantis).
My apologies for disappearing. I’m in the middle of a migration to a new PC but will hopefully be able to log back into Dominions by tomorrow. Gonna go catch up on the discussion here and check my PMs for pending diplomacy messages…
Bandar, despite staling a week-long turn, scored a big victory.
The real credit goes to the <expletive deleted> AI.
The AI that decided to ignore my scripted Mass Flight and have the guy cast the oh-so-helpful-when-you-have-no-archers-and-there-is-a-big-wall-between-you-and-the-enemy Wind Guide.
With Mass Flight it is all over in my favor in the blink of an eye. Bah
There’s no good reason why the mage switched to Wind Guide?

Anyone else having trouble playing Dominions with a GeForce 8800? I’d like to give it a try but the demo locks up my display driver after a few turns. I’m using the latest (182.08) drivers…
Hmmm. Dominions isn’t something that stresses a graphics card. You might want to ask over at the publisher’s site: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=138
Whatever your issue is, it’s not your graphics card lacking the horsepower for Dom3. You can play Dom3 on a TRS-80 hooked to an etch a sketch.
I’ve run the Dom games on some truly pathetic machines and they’ve managed it.
They don’t update the demo very often and it’s a few years old now, maybe it doesn’t like the newer graphics drivers or something.
Hmm, is this the longest Q3 thread yet? :)
Any word on if there going to be Dom4 in the future? I am waiting for Dom4 (if it will ever come) to rekindle my interest in Dominions. It’s been a year since I’ve played last MP Dom game.
The developers are working on a non-Dom4 project, and they’ve consistently said no to the dom4 question.
Pax Ermor game ought to be back online.

Thanks! But a little too late :( I staled the last turn. Oh well, looks like it didnt affect me too much though besides losing a turn out of raiding Pythium :)
I have no issues with giving someone extra time when they need it. But the last turn (not counting the ‘everyone staled’ turn) we had 3 last-minute timer resets so the turn took a week, and this evening we have another reset after nearly the full 72 hours - all with no word from whoever is requesting the extensions.
Is this going to be a perpetual state of affairs going forward? Can we just put the game on hold until whoever is chronically short of time can resume regular play? It is hard enough to hold any interest in this game (that began last August), without turns dragging out a week or more.
