It’s the difference between an email game and a traditional server hosted game. For the latter, when you log into the server to take your turn, you have an option of picking any nation, meaning a password is vital to stop someone from peaking at your nation. The email server, however, makes this unnecessary. So, I recommend you not have a password.
Yes, the idea is to give players time to figure out the server, put together an OK pretender, make sure they have the latest patch, and whatever. I don’t recommend anyone wait till the 11th, and if everyone gets their pretender in before then, all the better and I’ll start the game earlier. In the interim, I believe its still possible for me to change the game settings, incase anyone has any urgent desire to.
Edit: Atlantic Fervor now has enough players, but we’re tied for which age to play in. I’ll wait 24 hours to see if our non-voters have a preference. If it remains tied, I’ll flip a coin.
I’ll be out of service for honeymoon-related reasons until Aug 18, so if the game doesn’t start until then, I’m still in – but if GA decides that the game can run with someone taking my place, then that’s okay with me. Aug 18 is less than two weeks away, so I hope y’all wait!
“out of service”… Interesting turn of phrase.
Oh - yeah:
Congratulations!

Abysia’s pretender uploaded for Pacific.
In other news, Dave Perkins told me PM he wanted Early Age, so it looks like we’ll be playing in that era. Everyone please post their nation picks. I’ll throw them into a hat (more likely a coffee mug) and randomly assign them. The only nations off limits are water nations due to map limitations. Just remember, you far more likely to have to fight your pick than play as it.
I choose Arcoscephale for our game.
Come on Atlantic Fervor, its not that hard to pick a nation in which you only have 1 out of 6 chances of playing anyways. For my parth, I’m going to throw Yomi into the hat.
As for Pacific Dreams, I now have four pretenders submitted. I’ll start the game as soon as the 6 are in with a hard deadline of 8/11.

I would choose Ermor for Atlantic Favor
Sorry for the delay, but, by tonight, I’ll have chosen my Nation and uploaded my Pretender. It’s been a long time since I’ve read the manual, so please bear with me and thanks for being patient.
I’ll have my pretender loaded tomorrow – we’re dog-sitting right now, so I’m back and forth between my house and my mother-in-law’s. I’ve got some other gaming scheduled for tomorrow, so I’ll knock out my pretender before I start that.
Hmmm… looks like somebody submitted an extra pretender, for Man. I assumed it was yours Mysterio. Well, it’s deleted now. Just get your pretenders in when you can.
I choose you, pikachu…er, I mean, Tir na n’Og.
OK, I’ll be throwing the nation picks into a cup later today.
Also, in Pacific Dreams, did anyone pick Pythium? Because we have a Pythium pretender submitted. If not, I’ll have to delete it.
I’ve (finally!) chosen my nation: Man, Tower of Avalon! My pretender has been submitted to the server, and I’ve received the confirmation e-mail!
Let the pigeons loose! (Oh, I am so going to get creamed in this game…)
I suspect Kidd Socrates switched from Vanheim to Pythium, since Vanheim is the only nation listed in post 6037 that isn’t listed on the server.
The lots have been drawn!
- Greatatlantic: Maverni
- Dave Perkins: Ermor
- Evil Steve: Tir Na N’Og
- Idar Thorvaldson: Arco
- Matt Perkins: Caelum
- Hetzer: Yomi
Furthermor, the game settings that I think will work for our “bltiz” style are as follows…
Starting Provinces: 2
Independent Strength: 5 (default)
Gold Multiplier: 225
Resource Multiplier: 225
Supply Multiplier: 125
Research: Easy
Victory: Cumulative VPs, 8 (which should end the game at around turn 40).
VP Distribution: 12 randomly distributed 1 VP provinces.
Timer: 48 hours.
Score Graphs: Off
The extra resources tends to give postive scales a boost. In order to force players to have at least some focus on quality over quantity, supplies are kept relatively low. Regardless, expansion is easier for everyone and its quite possible for players with bad scales to find themselves able to expand with troops alone. I’ve messed around with these settings on the AI and they seem to work.
