I’m practicing with Ermor for the first time in prep for AtlanticFervor, and it seems like it’s pretty easy for Ermor to field giant armies, compared to other nations. And maybe he set his scales to favor a big income, too. That would imply a weakness in some other area.
Furthermore, it’s all about diplomacy! In the Pax Ermor game which started with something like 12 people, 5 of them dumped all of their gems/items to me when they were about to die, including a player who was my mortal enemy for the first, like, 50 turns.
Just use lots of smileys! :)
p.s. I uploaded my Ermor pretender to AtlanticFervor, GA. Thanks for organizing the game! Can’t wait to play with some people from PacificDreams at some point in the future.
With MA Ermor you can get a pretty fast start by recruiting basically only regular or Grand Thaumaturgs and Shadow Vestals. The GTs do nothing but reanimate longdead horse, the regular Thaums you only recruit when you have enough shadow vestals to form a new expansion squad. Once you have enough expansion squads make sure you recruit a GT every turn for the rest of the game. You’ll have zero research until you put up a 2nd fort and start recruiting more regular Thaums, or get lucky with independent mages.
In Pax Ermor, by turn 8 I had fielded 4 expansion squads and was the leader in provinces by a couple, and the lead just got larger from there. Never played EA Ermor - but I presume it works differently.
Speaking of Pax Ermor, I’ll pm you and DA in a bit and we can decide if we have the mental energy to crank it up again (is DA still around? - heck, maybe Hetzer wants his nation back).
I took that game offline recently since it had been so long since it had generated a turn. All the save files are still there though, it could be reactivated if people want to play it more.
Random events are a lot like poker hands. Sure, its all random. Yet, somehow the best hands always seem to come in streaks.
One thing I don’t understand is how I have “Cold:1” in my home province, since my Heat/Cold scale is balanced. My province started out neutral on the Heat/Cold scale, but now shows “Cold:1” with friendly dominion.
I suspect its winter. Seasons can change temp scales in Dominions.

Yeah I chose Misfortune 1. Luckily I tested a few ideas I had in SP before deciding on this pretender design. I originally had Misfortune 3 and it just bugged the hell out of me.
In other news, blood hunting really pisses people off.
Oh yeah, there’s an art to blood farming. To set up a really good blood farm you need to build a lab and a castle, lower taxes, set out patrollers, recruit and equip cost effective hunters, etc. It’s rather elaborate to set up but the results of having a massive blood slave income more than make up for it.
I love me some blood magic, it’s my favorite part of the dom3.

Is there a way to change hotkeys in Dom3? I keep stabbing end turn by mistake.
Wow… I did not personalize my assassins spell list when hitting Ermor, trying using my stealth assassin to take out his grand magister guy- who has 8 health, and this is how the fight unfolded
assassin: barkskin
magister:air shield
assassin: barkskin
magister:holy smite
assassin: fear
magister:holy smite
assassin: fear
magister:holy smite
assassin: fear
magister:holy smite
assassin: fear
magister:holy smite
magister:holy smite
magister:holy smite
magister:holy smite
and here I thought the game would be smart enough to notice that the enemy had 8 health and no defenses at all aside from that air shield spell.
my assassin had a poision sling and a poision sword, not to mention 11hp and around 9 protection.
Well ddtibbs- its war unless you pay me that bribe.
The game makes a few concessions to obviousness. Picking a different spell then whats scripted is one of them. Choosing to enter a melee is not. Long story short, if a commander can cast spells (of any variety) it will until engaged in a melee. Unless the commander is scripted to “attack,” at which point it will no longer cast spells no matter how beneficial they might be.

I am really a newb, but ron debry has given away my secret strategy. Plus, I had a bunch of weak independents to roll over. Now that I’m going to start facing national troops (since I’m not paying any bribes and TFE seems to want to push the issue) we’ll see how the rest of my strat plays out.
hehe well now that that is out of it- what I thought odd was your Dominion does not seem harmful enough-
Shameless publication of Ermor dominion stats: (based on what I can see:)
Order 2
Sloth 2
Heat 1(although it is winter and shows up as 0, but I remember it being heat 1 or 2)
Growth 2
Luck 1
Magic 1
The Great fear I had with being right next to ermor was mainly the fact that your dominion could spread horrible death to anything near it because you do not need income or supplies- so I was expecting Disoreder 3, sloth 3, heat or cold 3, growth -3 and magic -3.
These sliders I can live with, and therefore wait for my anti-Ermor research to finish :P
Was I wrong to expect such scales? Is there some hidden Ermor superunit that requires rescources? Is he recruiting an army of independents? Do I have my basics wrong?
I’ll be unable to take turns before Wednesday starting approx. now, so if Atlantic Fervor starts before then, please leave the timer off until I’m back.
Give me some credit, this is a newb game. You are thinking of Late Age Ermor, while playing the Middle. Admittedly, Middle Ermor is still quite powerful. However, its Dominion is no more lethal to population than its scales. It also lacks free spawning undead. It can use priests to summon undead, but thats something different.
On another note, Atlantic Fervor still needs a Yomi Pretender from Hetzer to begin. If he slips past the deadline to much further with out explanation, I’ll open the slot to the first person to submit a Yomi Pretender to the server. Come on Hetzer, let us know whats up!
Magic sites can cause (usually minor) scale changes. You might have one of those.
Well, I don’t know what happened to Hezter, but I’m going to assume he hid from adults in a large cupboard and ended up in a fantasy world. So, his spot is open for Atlantic Fervor. First person to submit a Yomi Pretender (and let me know you got the confirmation email by PM) gets his spot. Hopefully, we can get started by the time Idar’s back.
He must have set his Misfortune scale to -3. :(
Just a quick note…I’m back from vacation and will be taking my turn today for Pacific Dreams. Thanks for accommodating me by extending the timer for this turn.
This game’s currently on sale through August 31st for $46.70 + 2% off at checkout. I posted this in The Bargain Thread, as well.
Atlantic Fervor should be starting soon. Wahoo has stepped up to take the place of Hetzer as Yomi and is currently working on pretender design. He said he should submit by the evening. Hope everyone is still ready to play.
I’m so ready I could pop.
