I’m just sore that you didn’t respond to my in-game message last turn. ;-)
I think I missed that! What was it, again?
Damn. I don’t remember verbatim what I wrote, so I’ll try to paraphrase it:

I will kill you.
Seriously, I’ll PM you what I wrote.
I am taking a shot at two of the VPs near my capital – the only two I could possibly reach by Summer. One of them is in enemy lands, and I wonder if my force, led by Birg (my Wyrm pretender), will not only face the independent defences but also an attack from the other side.
Does anyone know how the game calculates who attacks first, if two armies are both ordered to attack a common spot?
(Jack does; thanks, Jack!)

Randomly generated at the beginning of each turn.
Could someone please explain how spell AoE propagation works? Bless has an AoE of 5+. Assuming my priest is Divine 1, that means the affected squares are the square the spell lands in and 4 others. What determines which 4 squares the AoE lands in? I watched a battle replay in which my priest cast Bless on the first turn, and the affected squares were as follows (0 equals an square without spell effect, 1 equals square with spell effect):
0101
1010
0100
What determines the propagation of the AoE? I thought I remembered reading something in the manual about it, but I can’t find it and it’s not in the index. Please direct me to the page(s) in the manual if you know and would rather not explain it here.
Here’s a thread from the the shrapnel forums discussing the issue of AoE. I don’t believe its a well understood issue. I believe the spell only targets a single square (which is dependent on precision, though bless has 100), and what remains will be randomly distributed around the targeted square. The mechanic that governs the AoE distribution is where a lot of the confusion arrises.

Area of Effect works just like magic ought to work in real life. That’s the rule of thumb I use.
I found that thread, as well, but it didn’t tell me anything more than I already knew/figured.
Success in both attempts to take VP provinces, putting me (Ermor) in what is likely a tie for first place on our way to 8 cumulative VPs. I also succeeded in capturing another independent province this turn. I have focused solely on expansion to the detriment of magic research in order to secure the two VPs by Summer. Now we can rest our bony limbs a bit and put on our thinking caps and learn some magic.
Since my mages are skilled at death and fire, I am aiming immediately for level 4 in Enchantment, which will let my mages Raise Skeletons (level 3) and cast Flaming Arrows (level 4). Both are very good early-game spells.
Early Age Ermor has no national summons, so it seems like I’m either going to have to make mass amounts of fragile units, or go for the very powerful summons like Wraith Lords and Tartarians. In a game that’s likely to be quite short, though, I really doubt I will be able to field many super-combatants. So I’m going to settle on big armies with magic support, I think.
Can everyone else give a full status report and future plan setup like Dave? It should make it much easier to counter you…
:p
See, that’s exactly why I don’t usually do this. But I’m doing it FOR THE NOOBZ! Having no idea if it is helpful. Also, I can’t remember the last time I tried to actively “counter” an opponent’s strategy. I just stick to one approach and hope it works! So if you can “counter” me, then more power to ya. :)
Over in the newbie game, Vanheim is digging out of last place, or at least is starting to recover overall. I’m still last in income and basically everything else, but now I’m TIED for last in provinces! That’s right, someone else is now in the cellar WITH me!
Beyond that, I feel like I finally have some troops running around now, and I’m learning everything else. I may not make a permanent home in last place in later games!
I’m just giving you a hard time man . :)
I don’t really set out to counter other peoples strategies in this game, I have a hard enough time picking and sticking to one strategy myself.
Same here – I actually change my mind from turn to turn, really. This is the first game where I feel like I have a FOCUS! p.s. You’re last to go this turn in the game. :)
Do I get a +1 movement bonus for being the first person to go all the way around the world?
I am loving the tension that I have with bordering nations- I have played Civilization but never felt this level of fear, possibly because I have never played a serious game, but still- Dominions multiplayer so far has really lived up to its name, as long as the late game can manage to stay playable.

Fear not, for your diplomatic relationship with Man will prove to be very beneficial for Vanheim. Just steer clear of C’Tis–they’re a nation full of paranoid lizards!
Yeah, I sensed your paranoia multiple times during our Steam chats. You need to chill, Little Lizard Dude.

Yeah that pretty much leaves me with the dubious honor of being in last place.
Except for research, where I lead the game. Because knowledge is power!

Atlantic Fervor: I’ve never played Yomi. And I’m not doing a great job. Here’s a hint…when your army is half all stealth and half not, make sure the stealth guys decloak for an attack. Otherwise you lose if you need them. :(
Frustrating goof.
wahoo, I still compulsively ‘control-click’ even when playing Ermor, who has no stealth units, thanks to making that very error as Eriu in the Pax Ermor game. :-/
