I’m having a remarkable amount of fun. I waited far too long to play Dominions.

The replay value is incredible. I’m in a game where I’m expecting a pearl harbor attack by Caelum (Cloud Trapezing eagle kings is awful). So I’m dreaming up list of counter measures and how do I respond? I’ve had the game since it’s been out and when I’m in a good game I flip through the rulebook on a daily basis.

i’m Marverni so I have some options…my teleporting golems decked in anti-shock gear, some direct damage spells like farstrike, mind hunting.

Ermor’s conquest of the independent nations within our natural borders is almost complete. Now we turn our baleful attention to those neighbors who have been blessed with 3 victory points within their natural borders.

Unless diplomatic solutions are reached, the undead will march.

My pretender discovered a magic site that gives 4 fire gems a turn AND offers a 20% enchantment bonus. My guess is that this site is really rare, and that I should hold a festival during which my minions may consume one another in glee.

But what does a “20% enchantment bonus” mean?

That’s ironic, since you were the one previously doing all the posturing. I could have easily taken the indy provinces in your region on the C’Tis/Man border, but didn’t, because I told you I wouldn’t. Now you’re concerned about Man when Ermor–a nation you’ve previously battled–is running rampant to your south and southwest? Perhaps you have a secret alliance with them.

I’d wager it means you receive a 20% bonus to enchantment research. No one ever claimed the undead were intelligent.

All enchantment spells are 20% cheaper. Perfect for those who need undead…like Ermor.

Dave: Are you going to make an Eater of the Dead again? …And whatever happened to that one in the previous game?

As I understand it, the bonus doesn’t work well with globals though. It doesn’t count extra gems until you get up to the original limit, and then it doesn’t even give you a discount on them.

I can’t seem to find the specifics after a minute of googling.

Anyhow I’m feeling like getting back into dominions, but nightmares of micro involving the gem producing items is keeping me away. Are there any mods that remove that aspect of bloodstone/clams/etc? Is that something that would make me unable to find people to play with? Am I the only one that hates that aspect of the game?

Thanks for the feedback on the 20% enchantment bonus. So, to see if I get this straight: suppose a mage casts one of the spells found in the Enchantment research tree, and he does so in that province. Whatever the original cost of the spell in gems, the spell only uses 80% of that cost. I guess this means that I need to build a lab there if I want the bonus to be useful?

LeSquide, the three remaining players in Pax Ermor decided to call it a game. That was ron debry as Ermor, DireAussie as R’lyeh, and me as Eriu. My Eater of the Dead in that game was nomming his way down the eastern side of the map, where I planned to send him into Ermor’s backfield, hoping that he would eventually leave my control (as his description states may happen if he eats too much) and go berserk on his own down south. It would have been fun to watch!

Meanwhile, my Air Queens were leading a host of Wyverns down the western edge of the map. That’s the only army that I had that was very interesting. The rest were boring Sea Troll types of armies.

In this new game, I am so far away from being able to summon an Eater that I doubt it will happen! We’re only in turn 8, and the game will probably only last to turn 40 or so. We’re using cumulative VPs.

Hmm? HMMM? zecret alliance? I know nothing!

I am just sitting here grabbing the last of my independents before escalating to full wartime status

Well, Ermor has pretty much rolled me and I only have my home providence left. Gotta say it’s pretty embarrasing to be the first one dead in a damn “newbie” game, but whatever. Gonna stick to single player going forward, at least until I learn how to not suck.

edit: Yep, new turn = I’m screwed. To the players left: Please destroy this bastard and make his children weep.

Noooo!!! this was the turn I chose to move my giant army against the (hopefully) undead hordes of ermor (on his creamy northern front).

The C’Tis will pick up the bones and plate of the fallen and disperse them in the lands of the Ermor as is customary for my people- but first we must conquer the heathen lands!

Yes that is a Declaration of war

Sorry, dude. I would have helped, but I’m isolated from his provinces. I saw this coming, which is why I issued the call to arms against him.

I still question ddtibbs newb status.

The bony feet of Ermor’s armies have stomped down all independent resistance in the region, and now we share borders with four other nations. The other two nations in the south, Maverni and Tir Na N’og, are disputing some border provinces in tightly-wound diplomatic meetings. Ermor fears a war between the two VP-poor nations will only benefit the rich nations in the north.

Fortunately, two of those nations are at war, according to second-hand sources. Caelum and Arcoscephale are at it. My scouts are on their way to learn more unfiltered news.

Yomi has yet to take his southernmost provinces that border our lands, but we are sure that he will claim them soon and call them his own. He has three VPs now and is at peace with his neighbors, as far as we can see.

Only eight turns until summer, when the VPs are scored again. Without question, Ermor will strike out to claim as many as we can. The only thing left to decide is: whose children’s bodies will pave the way for our columns of armored undead?

I echo that question. Granted, we’re all learning very quickly!

I will again reiterate my newb status. I’ve never played a MP game and never even finished a SP game. Mysterio has already discovered my source for my early strategy, and I’ve been fortunate to be able to press my early advantage to its utmost. That’s the second time you’ve questioned my integrity, can’t say I’m going to act very charitably from here on.

Now that that’s finished, back to the empty posturing.

C’Tis, your unprovoked aggression shall not go unpunished! The Ermorian legions are assembling. Even our aggrieved ancestors are rising from their graves to repel the hated invader! Prepare to hear our iron sandals march across your lands, while bony hands clutch at your slimy, reptilian throats. For justice and revenge!

That’s right. Shame on C’Tis for taking back a province in his region that you dared to call your own. Do you honestly think the other four nations are going to allow Ermor to eradicate the fine nation of Ulm without retaliation? Good for C’Tis for taking a stance!

I was unpleasantly surprised to learn this turn that two of my aged warlocks never came back from the blood hunt I sent them on. Revenge of the blood slaves I guess…

Did it say what happened to them? Did they die of old age?

EDIT: I’m taking my turn now. It would be great if we could generate another turn this afternoon.

I didn’t get any messages, that is what’s so confusing. Two of my blood hunters just didn’t come back.
