Question… how does one play Ermor against anyone who can banish?

Hopefully, one can’t, since I don’t see any other weakness with Ermor.

Overwhelm them, outmanuever them, or surprise them with nonbanishable troops.

AArgh!!! the undead are immune to poision- making my secondary strategy useless!

but my primary and tertiary strategies should go along well- lets give him hell.

Also I wish I had found that website earlier, for it gives far better advice than Bruce Geryk(sorry) so far.

:( Goodbye Ulm, it was nice playing with you.

I wouldn’t spend any time worrying about who is or isn’t new. There are lots of really good nation-specific strategy guides over at the Shrapnel forums. With the slow pace of a multiplayer game, anyone with the motivation can become pretty darn good at the early game basics.

That’s what disappoints me. The purpose of the Pacific Dreams game was to allow those new to the game to play each other and (I thought) to develop their own strategies. I could have easily found a proven strategy for Man online and followed it to a tee, but what fun is there in that? I chose to develop my own strategy and see how effective it is. If I win with it, great! If I don’t, no big deal. Like the saying goes, it’s not whether you win or lose; it’s how you play the game.

@Greatatlantic

Ulm was eliminated last turn, but Llamaserver still lists Ulm as “Waiting for 2h file.” Is this normal?

Hmmm… if he was just eliminated (and truly eliminated as oppose to being effectively eliminated), the server might need a turn to remove him from the list. If he’s the only player, I can force a host and see what happens. But I’d need to wait for Vanheim to get his turn in first. Or, I could just set him AI and let the chips fall where they may.

Yeah, he’s out for the count.

Was there a game message declaring him eliminated?

Yes, as well as his nation no longer showing up on the score graphs.

I haven’t gone looking for anything but a unit list, which I never managed to find. This has been a bunch of experimentation for me, not all of which has been good (see: killed by independents early on). I’d love to hear from Ermor’s player sometime.

Edit: Never mind, I see that Ermor’s player chimed in about twelve hours ago. Carry on, then!

Also, Vanheim’s turn is in, and it still shows waiting on Ulm, so I guess we need to remove him since he’s out, now.

OK, apparently there is a one turn lag before the server removes the name, as I thought. So, if you are eliminated consider it a courtesy to still email your turn in, even though your turn was just reading that you’d been eliminated. If not, thats fine the game will still autohost when the timer is up and that will be that.

Yeah the one turn lag is so if you’re eliminated you can watch the final battle(s) that resulted in your elimination. I think it’s a good feature.

I hope ddtibbs dies in a fire.

/sore loser

After completely reading IndyPendant’s Ermor MP Guide (I previously scanned certain areas), I’m going to concede this game to Ermor. Congrats, ddtibbs, on your ability to follow IndyPendant’s guide to a tee.

If any Dom3 newbies (excluding ddtibbs) are interested in starting another Dom3 MP newbies game, please post here. I suggest that we do as GA did for the veteran game: everyone selects one nation that goes into a hat, and each player’s nation is randomly selected from the hat. There should also be a gentleman’s/lady’s agreement that guides such as IndyPendant’s shall not be used. Consulting guides for information on game mechanics, units, items, etc. is fine, but using another player’s blueprint for victory is uncool. If GA could administer this new game, that would be greatly appreciated. If not, we’ll figure something out. :-)

One last thing: how do I concede within the game?

Oh me me! I love that idea, sign me up. I was going to suggest the “no guides” rule for this game but figured since it’s impossible to enforce there wasn’t much point. But still I think a gentleman’s agreement is needed.

Also, don’t give up on this game, keep on the good fight. Even if we lose I’d like to fight to the end.

In other news my warlock Joseph Johnston will be given a state burial. I was not ready for Ermor’s treacherous assassins.

I’m in for a new newbie game, and agree to abide by those rules.

I am totally in for that- and also would like to finish my last 2 turns which consist of my last ditch attack on ermor- this also being the first time my big army is actually in combat… on his capital!!! (where his paiper mache pretender is hopefully hiding).
