I’m in, pending rules. I don’t care what age, but I’d like to keep magic sites at their default, or at least under 50. I’m sure everyone can agree on allowing renaming, and not using exploits.
And since there’s been some controversy over it recently, I really, really, don’t want to play against someone that’s just copying a guide off the dom official forums.
Hopefully those rules are what everyone else wants too.
And I presume the pun is [new to slightly new] --> player skill level

Agreed, but I tend to prefer normal (MA) or more (EA) magic to less (LA).
How do you rename units, and what type of exploits do you mean?

Well I’m hardly aware of an exhaustive list but as examples:
if you mind control some of bogus’ party members you can get access to extra ai scripts, among them “attack mage” which can be a fairly big deal depending on when you get them.
the earth9 +4 protections stacks if you equip a commander with armor and 2 bracers for +12 protection (3*4).
I think if you set a stealthy command to sneak out from a siege, and then assign non stealthy troops to him once he has the sneak command, those troops will sneak out with him.
there are others that I don’t know but that’s what I’m talking about. I think some of them allow you to move armies across the overland map faster than you should be able to, etc.
Like I said, I’m fairly sure no one wants to play like that.

I’m in for the new game. I would also prefer MA. I would also prefer renaming be enabled… though I’ll have to figure out what naming scheme to use for this game.

- Will nations be assigned randomly from a pool created by each player choosing a nation? People pick their top 3 and I’ll givem the out in order or selections
- “September Rain: New to Almost New, only slightly Used.” Game is for newer players.
I’m going to say no private pre-game diplomacy. Posting here is fine but otherwise wait to till the game starts. I encourage folks to read through some of the guides, especially the general strategy on site searching etc.
Default conditions are a given unless players want otherwise.
Usually a game is set up here just by announcing it. Players can then vote on age and what conditions they want. I want to start a new game since there’s a wave of newer players here who want one.
So if this sounds good, just post your top 3 picks and I’ll start filling the game up.

I already posted that I’m in if players in Pacific Dreams are allowed to play, but I’m not on the list. Must I bribe you? ;-)
Pacific Dreams –
I will be on a business trip from Tuesday, September 22nd, returning Friday, September 25th. If we can adjust the timer for that, or just knock Vanheim to AI in the meantime, I’m cool. (I’m not entirely sure how that works.)
Going AI is a permanent thing, there is no going back and actually requires me to take over your nation and manually submit a turn setting it to AI. It would also probably result in you attacking half your neighbors, spending all gems summonging Zizs, and recruiting a hoards of independent militia. So… thats not a good idea.
You also won’t be gone long enough to justify finding a temporary sub. Best option is to delay the timer. Send me a PM before you go reminding me to do the delay and try to get a turn in before you leave.
…yeah, let’s, uh, not do that. I’ll try and get a turn in right before I leave, and then we’ll extend the timer. You’ll get a PM right before I head out.

It looks like I’m the first to stall a turn in dom3. I had already completed roughly half the turn, and was going to submit the last turn after finishing up a project in the evening, but that took longer than expected. Then I forget to submit my turn, or even extend the timer.

Meanwhile, in Pacific Dreams, Ermor’s troops are never ending. Is it just me, or are Shadow Vestals vastly OPed: sacred, undead, stealthy, and ethereal? Seriously? No wonder it’s so easy for Ermor to snatch indy provinces: he can send 10 of them to take on 50 units, 'cause they can’t be hit with indy’s non-magical weapons!

The ability to snatch indie provinces does not make a unit overpowered. There’s lots of units available to lots of nations that will steamroll normal indies.

Man doesn’t have a capital unit that can fight indys at a 1:5 ratio and win. Being ethereal is a huge advantage when capturing indys.

No, but several other nations do.
In the long run, the ability to beat on indies isn’t a huge deal. Unless the map is very sparsely populated the indie-fighting phase of the game ends pretty quick and the opponent-fighting, the real meat of the game, starts.

What’s your research level? Get a group of about 6+ A2 casters, and an A3 next to 4 or 5 bards. The bards are scripted soothing song*5 spells, the A3 does storm, then whatever, one of the a2s does wind guide, and then the rest are all summon storm power thunderstrike.
Shouldn’t that work pretty well?
If you think that’s overkill, a similar group sans the bards casting orb lightning should work well too. Evocations I think are the go to for magic damage against ethereals.
Edit: For those who don’t know what the top group does, soothing song is a big aoe ~10 reinvigoration, which means a thunderstrike battery that doesn’t quit. In my game, after the script ran out, the air mages turned to 50/50 thunderstrikes and ghostwolves, and the bards went to a mix of vine arrow, soothing song, and protection. Not bad, particularly if you’ve got something to drag the battle out.
