Good point. The timer’s been changed from 36 hours to 48 hours. When wahoo’s game starts, I’ll change the timer to 72 hours, since some of us will have three games going at once.

It is good that Ermor’s people lack hearts, for theirs would break at the news of how Yomi’s armies have swept our forces aside like crumbs.

Thus far, these wars have been in Yomi lands, but except for a Caelum army within Yomi’s borders, we are sure that Yomi would counterattack straight at our capital and only VP.

Our wizards reckon that the score update is as follows:

Arcoscephale, Caelum, and Yomi: 4
Marverni, Ermor, and Tir: 3

If any of the rich northern nations holds 4 VPs in a year’s time, they win. What happens if two nations tie at 8, however? As we know, Dominions only permits a single Pretender to be the victor.

Atlantic Fervor: Late Summer of Year 2

Heh. Marverni has piled on the brave Yomish, meaning that 60% of the world is at war with me. And I’m holding my own so far. While Caelum and now Marverni make hey, Ermor is at our feet. We’ve slayed Ermor’s heroes, prophet, mages and now Pretender. In the last two turns, we’ve slayed 600 ermor troops and little opposes us now.

Otoh, Caelum has seized a victory pt from us and Marverni has taken our lands and will soon seize another victory pt. Marverni was too slow to save Ermor and too slow to alter the course of this game. While Caelum has made some success vs me (although I traded one of my provinces for 2 of his last turn), he’s losing big time as Arco is gobbling him up.

I’m not afraid of Caelum’s expeditionary army. It’s been starving so long that most of the fighters are diseased and gaining afflictions and dying every turn.

Unfortunately, we 3 nations against me I don’t see path to victory but I have a few tricks left.

Regarding Pacific Dreams, the number of troops Ermor has is insane, and my troops continue to do things they shouldn’t. Why is a flying commander attacking units that are retreating when he’s been given the “stay behind troops” order? He spent the entire battle behind my troops, but then decides to attack when the last enemy squad retreats. One of the retreating units attacked him (I thought retreating units didn’t attack?) and killed him while on his way to exiting the battlefield. WTH?

Does it matter where flying troops are positioned on the battlefield? Do they have a max range or different movement costs on the battlefield?

Fair warning: I fully intend to read any and all nation guides that seem useful, and I don’t care if they are guides about “how to win with strategy x” or not. All of them have weaknesses and counters. If there are real balance issues, nations should be barred and/or patches required.

To me, “newbie game” means that the players haven’t played many multiplayer games, not that they limit themselves to “scanning certain areas” of nation guides, or swear off using any specific strategies that other people have written about. The idea that the game is just about coming up with strategies is very single player centric. The real game doesn’t even start until you know the all the major strategies for all the nations in your game (and which ones your opponent prefers), and the faster newbies see those strategies the faster they’ll be able to practice the counters, and the faster they’ll move beyond being newbies. Knowing the popular strategies doesn’t stop you from coming up with new ones, it just stops you from winning with crappy ones. That’s a good thing; the point of newbie games is to learn, not necessarily to win.

I like the idea of discouraging slavish guide following (it’s more important to think about all your capabilities in detail even you do end up using a guide strategy), and I like the idea of assigning nations, but I think banning nation guides is kind of silly. Feel free to leave me out if you disagree - I posted before reading the last few pages and getting the full context, so that’s my fault.
