Uh, where did all the Agarthans go? One minute they were outside the gates with a zillion magma children and now they’re gone.

Maybe they are taunting you.

Breaking News from the Consort Observer ™

This was a bad month for gods, The whole bureacracy is mourning the dead of Divine Heinrich. The Hunter of Heroes came knocking and Heinrich is away for the time being. The entire celestial troops are calling him even now, he will be back next month.

In our last issue we reported from the battle of thin elephants. As the informed reader do surley guess there was a rematch. The concentrated schwerpunkt of the giant army stormed against the Arcohordes.

The battle was long and bloody, battle spells of cold where flinged of both sides much to the surprise of the cold giants who weathered the storm fairly well (OO). Thunder! seems to be a god of at least mighty arms but not of mighty brains. He swung his hunting knife with much vigor but alas it helped him, not. At the end the whole arco army was fleeing and Thunder! realising his fault in this, covered heroically the retreat, many enemies swarmed him this day and at least he had to give in and he died. He saved aproxx. a third of his army if that is a consolation of his people. He will be missed.

As a last point we have a message from our sponsor Lu - Xing:

When i find those apes that got my brother there will be hell to pay. Start getting warmed up so that you can run a little faster!

This news was brought to you by Lu - Xing lemon juice the juice of your choice

Is finding out I got slaughtered better second hand? I can’t tell.

I’ll have to log in later and mourn my fallen god. Also, I think I shan’t be much longer for the squidz game. Mistakes a plenty I have made.

welcome to the club!

I don’t have the manual here at work, but I seem to recall that pretenders heal afflictions over time. Is this the case, or just wishful thinking on my part?

Oh yeah, this is the game for it… And I’m sure I’ll continue to make the more mistakes. It’s my way. :)

I’m having/had a great time with this game.

Know what I wish though? Is that you could have cooperative victories (with some caveats, of course). And be able to move armies across “friendly” nations. It would add a whole extra wrinkle into the diplomacy I think is missing now.

Not that big of a thing, but a thing all the same.

I think people had that same debate in Dom2. My feeling, and that of most people I think, is that it would ruin the game. The game is designed around a “There Can Be Only One” setup. More importantly, a diplomatic alliance is already very powerful in Dominions – production limits, in particular, make it very difficult for a single nation to fight off two other nations. Anything that makes alliances easier or more powerful just makes the game more and more about your diplomatic skill rather than anything else (of course having large armies and powerful magic makes you a more desirable diplomatic partner, though). The limits you are talking about – no moving through each others’ territory, no joint attacks, and knowing that ultimately the alliance must be broken – are very important checks on the otherwise tremendous power of alliances.

He loses a few afflictions when he is called back, IIRC feeble mind and disease are allways lost. Otherwise immortals or units with recuperation lose an afflictions every now and then.

If that’s not enough for you, Mike, you can also try to forge the Chalice or summon a faerie queen. Arco priestesses can also heal afflictions - perhaps there are also some other ways that I am forgetting.

I got a bad feeling about this . . . .

I think it’s time to get a new Dominions game off the ground; let’s call this one HOPLITE. 12 Players total (and yet we ended up with 13!), NOOBZ preferred, but if there’s not enough interest, we can add some sharks into the mix to keep everyone honest. I’ll be going back and adding names of people who’ve posted interest over the last week or two, but if you don’t see your name, shout out and I’ll add you to the list. Please put in your votes for settings, and preferred nations. If you’re the adventurous sort, choose RANDOM for your nation, and I’ll pick the nation out of a hat - an ancient derby in fact, soaked in the blood of kings and horses.

A big thank you to Lum for hosting!

You should hold off on any new games until they patch the Hero Horror bug.

Fair enough - since 3.02 seems to be in testing right now, I’m hopeful we’ll see the patch by the time Hoplite’s ready to start.

Wow, that took so long to watch the replay, I don’t have time to play the rest of the turn. How long did it take for you guys to watch?? An Hour and a Half for me!!

The battle was tougher than I thought, many of my scripts refused to go as as ordered, including most of spells my better mages were supposed to throw.

Had a weird bug in my battle setup as well, my plan was to allow the attack vs PD only the last turn in MY dominion(and observe his setup),and then counter with 2 armies from adjacent provinces, joined by my fort guys set on “break siege”. But when I hit “y” to setup my unit screens, a good third of my units refused to allow me to redeploy them further back on the battlefield, so I could try to soak up the Elephants with poorer units and try to rout them with ranged units as I wanted. Their white square did NOT even show up in the setup screen so I lost some good units I did not need to risk on the front line. Anybody know what could have happened?

BTW, I don’t think he saved any forces,I cut off his only retreat by simultaneously taking a province with a stealth unit.:)

Now I need to lick my wounds and play the rest of the turn tomorrow.

I would like a spot in the Hoplite game.

Farspeech from Yngvar, Mavernibane, Prophet of Sven Vanson to his troops:

Wolves, today we fought another battle against the ulmish, we crushed them complete. I think we brought their fighting will for the next few months if not forever. Tomorrow there will be a new battle, the cow is at the gates. The marvernis are coming for us with everything they got. Give me one more victory and the marvernis are history, let none of them get away and bring me a steak from the cow.

Blood and souls for our lord Sven Vanson!

Y’know, it’s kind of funny that the prophet keeps calling himself “Marvernibane” when he hasn’t actually fought a single pitched battle against said Marverni, leaving all the real work to the grunts in the north, while he wanders around the sunny southern forests.

Thats why he is called prophet and not dumbass ;)

And as an alternative there is always HOH mod fix, which changes HOH’s stats into those of lesser horror.
