Dominions 5: Multiplayer Warriors of the Feint - 2018 Stabby-Stabby Edition

Wow this map is tight. Well, at least my real Dragon isn’t Horror Marked. I believe thats an astral bless effect now? And I recall that your 4 armed hero is the blood 3 guy, if its the same guy from Dom4.

Glad I spent last turn buying more troops! There’s a few more Mushusus in the mix now.

Oh how I wish your pretender was LittleMissPiggy, @Akaoni. Because then your sacreds with your pretender would be the ultimate combo - Mushusu Pork!!

Oh, I missed out on a good opportunity there, you are correct.

I got a chance to look at the battle between monkeys and brutes. It was kind of sad, since it was waged in a cave. So the archers on both sides mostly missed, and then the melee sides bumped. The awe worked well, sadly, and the Fallen must have been able to see in the dark, since he racked up an impressive ratio.

In other news, congrats to Pan for taking a Throne without a loss! N7E7 blessed White Centaurs are NASTY.

My scouts have also revealed the last missing nation…now I know where everyone is…including a large Rus force on my border. Perhaps I need to prepare for unexpected visitors.

QT3 Lizzies Pan turn 6 maybe

or How I Took a Throne and Lived to Tell About It (not nearly as interesting as it sounds)

Well, I sent in Red, my Bull Pretender along with a goodly army of white centaurs, satyr warriors, and my prophet. I knew the prophet would be essential as the throne province lay outside of my current dominion. I also knew Red Bull wouldn’t be able to solo the province without great risk to himself, due to the presence of several Wizards. Not to mention that outside of his own dominion he’s quite a bit more vulnerable than one might think. So, my prophet tagged along to give everyone else a Divine Bless.

Red Bull, being the crazy guy he is, charged on ahead with his 3 bodyguards (a mistake in retrospect), while everyone else hung back to get blessed and have their courage fortified. As a result he started attracting the Wizards’ attention quite quickly - understandable when being charged by a colossal bull intent on trampling you. Reminds me of that old joke…“show him your badge!”

Anyways, it turns out that Protection 19 (or so) isn’t enough to stop spears wielded by humans all the time. Especially when getting zapped by Wizards with slow, enrage, and paralyze spells. Red Bull managed to shake off the first few spells, but MR 19 allows some leakers too. Red’s hit points started to drop from all those little attacks, mostly doing 0 damage but some getting through. I anxiously watched as the paralyzed Bull’s hitpoints drop from 150-ish down to almost 100. His bodyguard was trying to fight their way through to him but he’d trampled himself into the middle of a huge crowd of indy warriors.

Luckily the cavalry arrived and swept back the cluster of indy warriors around Red. He was bruised and tenderized, but Red would live to see another day (saving my priests a lot of useless chanting).

Wow, Sleep Cloud is nasty now! Didn’t it used to just cause fatigue damage? It appears to add a new sleeping effect now and instantly disables the unit if they fail an MR check. It said there was a 10% chance to recover each round and the dang guys stood there a really long time stuck. Ugh!

BotBaddict, I enjoyed your description of Red Bull’s mad charge. I’m a newb, and I learned a fair bit from your post! Thanks.

Glad to help! :D

Gah, surrounded on all sides by 3 Dom-vets. This could be a short game for me.

Yeah, this is super tight. Even if I can manage to take some strong thrones, my max provinces looks like 9 right now.

Another tip that may help some players is the scales you find in a province may tip you off to what magic sites are there. Death is a really popular one, but I just took a province that has Turmoil 3 in it. That is almost surely telling me there is a magic site there that causes Turmoil.

You can also do this with Unrest that will not go away and other scales, so consult the Mod Inspector and sort by scales and it may help you fine tune what paths to search that province with quickly.

Here is a shot from the Mod Inspector (Dom 4 version), but you get the idea.

I clicked on each Turmoil site for the added detail shown and you can see those and some others in the list. I need to search Fire 2 or Nature 3 to find one of these most likely, and nice gem income too and the ability to hire those Fire mages would be helpful!

Some pros have also prioritized searching per level, per path, per terrain, but I haven’t looked at those in a long time. Some other good information shows that just searching with Path 1 mages uncovers a large percentage of those available (that data used to be also available), so there can be a lot of strategy involved in being efficient at site searching.

EDIT: Or just use the built in search tools that I missed in the Mod Inspector, lol!

My Dom5 just got updated, and now llamaserver isn’t taking my .2h file. Is that maybe because llamaserver needs to update? Or, am I doing something stupid again.

I had no problem sending in 2h file this morning, but I’m not sure if my copy’s been updated.

Yep, this. Llamabeast will need to apply the patch serverside as well, which should stop the rejections.

For those interested, I put together a Discord Server for multiplayer games and has a channel for Dominions Games. If you would like, I believe a channel can be created for every dominions game running.

And all of a sudden I’ve found almost everyone. There really isn’t much room left to maneuver.

Attention to this:

“Be warned that the latest patch of Dominions 5 has a very serious bug that inverts supply requirements. Undead units consume supplies and starve to death while living ones do not. You are advised to pause any multiplayer games you are involved in until this issue is hotfixed.”

So what I’m getting from this is that this is not actually how supplies worked back in those times?

These damn historians changing opinion in every peer reviewed journal! pfft!

QT3 LIzzies Ur

  • A quiet turn for the bronze dragons. Build a bit more, search a bit more, build another quill, save some gold to make a second home. Look around nervously at neighbors. “Hi! Yep, doing just fine here, no need to visit…”

So now we have ended the early expansion phase, and all bumped up against one another. Evil_Steve planned it that way so we would have more … “interaction” I think he put it. Obviously drunk on Bundy.

Anyways, this is where most forum communication in public goes silent, and the private messages heat up. No one is strong enough yet to take on another and win quickly. And if you DO decide to attack someone else, you want to keep it quiet, so no one attacks your undefended rear. Plus, you might be running a one trick attack, like blessed F9 Call Ancestors, or a ton of trampling elephants, or a handful of regenerating giants. That, if given time, others can build counters to.

So you keep quiet and hope the others dont have scouts running around and watching everything.

This is also fun when you can make OUTRAGEOUS statements about your neighbors, and hope that someone instigates a war that you can then come in on, on one side or another. So its good to start some propaganda about now, that someone with scouts can figure out, but others wont know.
For instance, did you know:
Mercenaries who retreat from battle, even if not suffering a single wound, die?
That ManEaters get a bonus when they lead Hydras?
That Niefel has expanded, perhaps not surprisingly, at a better than normal clip?
Pan’s satyrs, if in growth scales with maeneads, give the province an additional ‘growth’ bonus?
Cold blood units, like lizard men, suffer more fatigue in Winter (which we are in?)
Ur just got its first freespawn, a crocodile?

I bet others have some things to say. I just know that Ur will not be the first to attack.
Well, maybe. :)

Did you know that hydras completely regen after combat? I mean like completely. I had one guy that was down to his last head and then …boop…all the heads are back! Clearly incredible creatures…

Oh, and to a certain ‘interested party’ - that’s an intriguing idea, but I’m not convinced you can pull off your part - but if you find a way to convince me, i’m in.
