Dont care for freelancer

I didnt care for it. How about you guys?

How the hell did my post get here?

We had a few threads about it. You should do a forum search.

In a nutshell, I loved it.

Wow. When Freelancer came out I spent hours lambasting it here. And nobody agreed with me.

Now at this late hour somebody finally comes to my rescue?!

I must have bad Karma.

Anyway, yeah bob, I was severely disappointed. I played it about 1/3 to 1/2 way through and I was just super underwhelmed. Didn’t think it was easy enough to make money, didn’t care for the story line, and I didn’t like the way it didn’t have everything that was promised.

Anyway, can somebody tell me how it ended? What was the whole conspiracy?

I don’t know if I can go quite that far but it was a lot of fun for a lot of hours both single and multiplayer.

I felt the single player was fairly bland and just OK overall. I did enjoy the multiplayer, particularly on the Qt3 server with the folks I grew to know a little. Before giving up on it, try finding a decent server online and giving the multiplayer a whirl. The game is more open-ended and more interesting IMO online.

Overall I enjoyed the game, although I do agree it could have been a lot better. Specifically it really cries out for an expansion with more of everything, especially mission types.

I liked the demo a lot at first, but the NPC’s regurgitating the same lines to you (we don’t run this place, but we have an understanding with the people who do) got on my nerves, so I didn’t buy it…

It was not bad.

Other things it was not: Privateer 1, Freespace 2.

So I was not 100% pleased.

The dialog thing was hugely annoying. I appreciated the attempt to have dialog for many of the NPCs but the attempt was a failure.

Knowing the huge amount of time, money and personal effort invested in the game, I really wanted it to work.

Conversely, this also lead to reasonable expectations of quality and enjoyment that were not met.

The team that made the game is astoundingly talented, I’m sure their next games WILL be something to take notice of.

As it is, if you have ever played Elite you will be disappointed by Freelancer. For everyone else, I’m sure you will get some pleasure out of it if you invest the time. The game is not bad, and in many places it shines - it just fails to meet its own ambitions, and that, unfortunately, shows.

Yeah, but bob agreed with you.

I thought this whole thread was a troll. And there was this.

You’re asking a bunch of journalists, developers and their bouncy little forum-mates for their opinion because you can’t form a coherent opinion for yourself. Normally this would be fine, that’s what they’re paid for, and do for fun on here. You, however are looking for others to do the thinking for your pissant little website, which is a bit out of order.

Did I miss anything?

I liked the single player for the most part, decent story. However, once I finished the storyline there just didn’t seem like much incentive to continue on or play much multi.

The storyline was a little short. There should have been more NPC given sidequests (or any at all would have been great) and more choice in random missions. I hope they make an expansion pack for it.
