Very interesting and seemingly well-balanced review, which reflects pretty much what I’m expecting based on the standards of the pre-release material.

I was about to post the EG review.

I am not sure if i like the review. There is a feeling reading it that he didn’t like the game as much as others… but just because he like other types of rpg games and not specially this.

Things like how he mentions exposition and storytelling as “too much” and “interminable” and for its own sake instead of, quoting, “the game itself - the small matter of levelling and combat-”. As if the “true game” has to be or should be combat and levelling, and not storytelling and world building.
Or he also mentions Oblivion, multiple times, and very positively, something out of place in a review of another game, and more when this is another type of rpg. In fact he complains how he doesn’t have ultimate freedom, which is not the point of this type of game. Not every game has to be like Oblivion…
Another one, he complains about the difficulty and combat, saying “be prepared to pause and micro-manage frequently” as it’s something bad. That’s how the combat works here! pausable realtime. It’s realtime, but it’s supposed to work more like a turn based game, where you have to decide and micromanage every action, it’s just you who decide when there is a pause to change the orders and give more actions, instead of being an arbitrary, regular system in a traditional turn based system.

And i am not even a big fan of Baldur’s Gate type of games, but i don’t like when reviewers doesn’t seem to like the style of the game, and he criticizes it because he would like to be more like his other favorite style of games.

I’ve been a little wary since the upsurge of positive opinion in this thread came primarily from Desslock and it sounded just like his comments on Oblivion.

I really liked Oblivion (mostly) when it came out. I’ve since cooled considerably on it due to the tedious leveling system and the scaling (they are a problem together, not so much on their own). I haven’t touched it in years. I suspect DA will be a far superior product, at least in regards to what I look for in a PC/RPG experience.

That’s about the same time I ordered mine.

Mine shipped from New Castle, DE, and I’m in FL. Where are you?

Well shit. I got up this morning and checked my Amazon order and it’s still stuck on “Items Shipping Soon”. I don’t think I’ve ever had an order that switched to that status that didn’t also ship that same day. grumble

Giantbomb written and video review.

Man I am so psyched about this game. I have it coming from Amazon, release day shipping…but I was debating driving around last night at midnight to get a copy.

Gamespot has reviews up for all 3 versions and they ranked them PC, PS3, 360. PC on top is no surprise but PS3 edging 360 sure is, to me.

Utter fucking bullshit. “Buy the game at full price or we’re removing content”.

Fuck EA and fuck Bioware.

Not too surprising that it’s 5 stars. For the Giant Bomb crew to even bother with reviewing an RPG, I’d think it’d have to be one they loved.

I can’t watch the video at work and I can’t find a byline. Who reviews it? Dave seems like their most RPG-centric guy, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him do a review before.

Also, the picture of elf Vinny will haunt my nightmares for years to come.

huh.

Pass then. I hate bad textures (use more discs, dipshits! We can install this crap)

I found it funny both console versions have deal breaker issues for me though, bad framerate / glitches vs. smooth framerate and ugly.

I wouldn’t buy it on pc without a demo to check performance.

I ordered Demon Souls from Amazon and it was stuck at that status for 6 days. Hopefully that won’t happen to you…

They’re still estimating a November 5th delivery date. I’m really hoping it actually did ship and somehow the “Items Shipping Soon” part was never updated. I’m expecting it to actually ship today and arrive tomorrow. Anyone else order a 360 CE from Amazon and not have it ship yet?

How do Steam unlocks work these days? Is it still like the days of Half Life 2 where you have to restart Steam to kick off the decryption? I think the last thing I preloaded was the Orange Box.

Also: This is going to be a really really really really long day at work.

Let us hear a few more non-spoiler mage impressions later today if you have time Idrisz!

I have a question about picking different classes within the same origin story. Does class make a significant story difference? Like will the Dwarf Noble Rogue be different, story-wise, than a Dwarf Noble Warrior?

No difference.

Idrisz - please post more comparison thoughts on console vs PC version.

I’d say they were going for the Roman Centurion look with the light female armor, which would be fine, were it not for the fact the boys get to wear pants and long sleeves (well, the third light girl-armor has pants & sleeves too). I’m fine with a little skin, but let’s be open-minded here, folks - what about all the girls who want their boys running around in leather battle-skirts?

On the upside, you can play DA all day and make taunting posts while the rest of us are stuck at our day jobs.
