To be precise, those are all spells that demonstrate the meaningfulness of the phrase “straight-laced Origins”, or possibly the lack thereof.

I’m talking about teleporting, bomb-kicking rogues that can “area-effect backstab”. One is a fantasy staple. The other belongs in anime.

Which is also fantasy.

There’s nothing wrong with that, in and of itself. My point is DA2 diverges FAR TOO MUCH from the tone of the original.

Nonsense.

Look, I’m not trying to convince you of anything, and you are certainly not going to sway me. There is fantasy and then there is Dragonball Z. I’d rather my rogue throw a potion type bomb at an enemy than lob it in the air and SPIN KICK IT into her target. I don’t know if you expect me to leap from my chair and realize how wrong I’ve been all this time, but it’s not going to happen.

What a good thing DA2 isn’t Dragonball Z, then.

I’d rather my rogue throw a potion type bomb at an enemy than lob it in the air and SPIN KICK IT into her target.

I fail to see how acrobatic stunts somehow fail to come under the banner of fantasy, unless your definition of the term remains mired in 5th level D&Disms.

I am probably going to regret mentioning this but… basically because “western” fantasy is not Wuxia and blurring the two can be odd. I don’t mind Anime but what he is describing sounds more like something that would come out of China, Korea or Japan than Bioware.

What are you trying to convince me of?

Probably the same thing you’re trying to convince me of.

Rainbow-riding unicorns are also fantasy. How about we get some of those in DA3?

You should see what d00ds like Cuchulain, Odysseus and Hercules were capable of, never mind China, Korea or Japan! (This idea that ppl who do not cast boom spells are incapable of feats of extraordinary strength or skill is always amusing.)

There are no rainbow-riding unicorns in wuxia, silly.

I’m not trying to convince you of ANYTHING.

I believe DA2 is far to anime in it’s style for my taste, especially as it’s so different from the first game. You feel differently. I don’t really care if you agree with me, it doesn’t change my feelings about DA2 nor does it move me to purchase the game. You’ve clearly ALREADY purchased and played it, and I have no intention of dissuading you that the game isn’t for you. That would be folly.

Neither will you convince me that the brand of “fantasy” that DA2 brings to the table is the same as the original Origins. It’s not. It’s just not the same! But you don’t agree with me. Okay, that’s cool, world goes around and all that.

Yet you KEEP TRYING! I don’t care that you liked DA2. Good for you. I think it looks fabulously retarded, and I will not spend even $20 to pick it up. Maybe someday I’ll be bored and see it go on sale or something, with all the DLC as well, and I’ll just say fuck it and pick it up. But as it stands right now, NO FORCE ON EARTH WILL GET ME TO TRY OUT THIS MONSTROSITY.

That would be your idea and few others. It’s not extraordinary feats I am talking about, it’s the type, it’s the style. I am going to wager you aren’t actually suggesting that there are no cultural differences between a tale/legend coming out of Japan and one coming out of Greece… are you?

Yes, so you keep saying.

I believe DA2 is far to anime in it’s style for my taste, especially as it’s so different from the first game.

Yes, you’ve said that already. You don’t need to keep saying it.

You feel differently.

To be precise, I have shown that your opinion is based on a rather selective recall of features of the first game.

I don’t really care if you agree with me, it doesn’t change my feelings about DA2 nor does it move me to purchase the game.

Why would you assume I want to convince you to buy the game? That would make me a shill, and I am certainly not a shill.

It’s just not the same! But you don’t agree with me. Okay, that’s cool, world goes around and all that.

Actually, it is the same. It just has a slightly different emphasis, one that makes for better inter-class balance.

And yet you cannot seem to stop talking about it. Perhaps you’d like to talk about Mass Effect instead, if you’re having trouble finding an alternative topic?

Cultural differences have nothing to do with splitting mooks’ heads open with swords.

You keep replying to me, is why I keep repeating myself. I think I have it figured out, you just need to have the last word. Okay, that’s cool. Go ahead and reply to this one, and call it good.

I don’t know if you are actually reading the posts that you are arguing against, but I am talking about someone flinging themselves through the air and spin kicking potions into dark spawn. That is not something most people would expect to see in a “western” based fantasy game unless the character was involved in martial arts or the game was say Jade Empire (<=== not western based).

/2cents = DA2 is shit next to DA:O, but I’m pretty sure everyone actually knows this already.

Why do ppl always try to get the last word by saying they don’t want the last word?

I fail to see where he claimed to not want the last word. Reading is fun.

That is also something most ppl would not expect to see in a martial arts game, where the characters can be expected to have superpowers significantly greater than in evidence in DA2.

Reading between the lines is even more fun!
