Where did you read that?

The poll that I made a while back, indicates that 45 of 138 first playthroughs were done with a dwarven character, which is a decent 32% However I do realize that Qt3 doesn’t necessarily reflect the broader masses… Though thats quite a huge discrepancy.

From what the writers have spilled over on the Bioware boards, all the companions have multiple personal quests in DA2 where you will get to know more about them. They also have homes in the city of Kirkwall and will alert you when they want you to come talk to them, but hopefully we’ll get the bulk of character growth outside of the “Press dialog option B to hear about my dead wife/husband” stuff.

David Gaider revealed that bit of telemetry data back during the first round of wailing and gnashing of teeth when they revealed that DA2 wouldn’t have multiple origins.

No, this is a Dragon Age thread, and moreover it is a Dragon Age thread in a forum about games of all kinds.

There are multiple threads to talk about other games, and considering DA is an RPG what is the point on talking about upcoming RTS or FPS?

To note that there is plenty of variety to be had in gaming, of course.

The difference is between an RPG where you play a character you create, name and customize and an RPG where you play a character created by the game designers.

In DA2, you will play a character that you create, name and customise. It is the same as in every Bioware game ever made. You seem to be complaining about nothing.

I didn’t whine at all and for me the world where you pay for something you don’t like is the world of idiots.

Indeed, so when you say
Again, I’ll eventually buy all of them,
perhaps you should reconsider, if these games are not something you’re going to enjoy.

Maybe because I don’t think others should/have to enjoy the same things I do but occasionally people find common tastes.

And here you seem to have veered into a topic almost but not quite related to what was being discussed. Nobody said anything about having to enjoy the same things.

Challenge at all, but try to make sense instead of derailing and talking about everything BUT the topic: how Dragon Age was changed from one expansion to another.

It was changed to take advantage of the lessons learned in their last two games, of course.

The funny thing is, I never said anything about the quality of Mass Effect, I merely stated that DA2 was going to be more like Fantasy Mass Effect than a proper sequel to DA.

Well, since Mass Effect is pretty high quality indeed, clearly this means that DA2 is also going to be high quality, yes?

Here, I’ll make it simple:

I don’t like how they changed the game

I thought you said you weren’t complaining?

but I respect and understand that others might like it; however, I don’t have to agree with them on what makes the game good or bad, that’s called personal opinion.
Simple enough for you?

And the point of this is…?

Oh, now this sounds excellent!

This.

99% of game developers would not know subtle if walked up to them and introduced itself.

I think best Bioware romance like game was actually done in KotOR 2. I remember there were a couple of romance options, but what I really remember from that game is that all of my companions had personalities and desires and I felt like they were at least attempting to be people. I did not so have to press X and B to listen to their stories, but rather, actually talk with them, get to know them, etc.

Beyond that, almost all Bioware romances are pretty much the same. No subtly, press X to get busy type shit.

…and KotOR2 was written/developed by Obsidian, not Bioware. I agree though, the romance plotlines are nice to have, but I really wish they were a lot more subtle and harder to “fall into.” Unless I actually pursue it with someone, I’d like to be able to be just friends or colleagues with people, and not come off as some skeezy boss the way I did with Jacob in ME2.

I actually thought the romances in DA were fairly decent, though the gaming of the system with gifts was maybe a little tacky. My conversations with Leiliana were not cringe-inducing though, which I can’t say about a lot of the conversations in ME2, particularly anything with Jacob and some of the ones with Thane.

Yes, my point exactly. ;)

I feel like I played an entirely different Dragon Age from the rest of you. I don’t recall having any romance options foisted upon me at all.

Yeah pretty easy to avoid. Though my lack of attention to my companions came back to bite me in the ass with Zevran later in the game. Have killed him at first opportunity ever since.

Looks like someone at EA realized once the demo was out it was out for all and the Gamestop exclusive demo has been canceled…

Due to security reasons, we have decided to delay this offer until the demo publically releases on February 22.

I feel safer.

The problem I had with the ME2 is that unless you were on their specific quest, they often could be more or less dead during other gameplay. They might pipe up with a comment, but it often be without any personality or individual reaction… basically the same line shared by many of your crew, just read by a different voice actor.

Bioware’s best romance work is when it’s done in the second game with a character from the first game.

WHY COULDN’T I ROMANCE BAO-DUR?!

I DO NOT KNOW!

But if you could of, I so would have. Fine man meat, control of the tech, potential Jedi (if I remember correctly). Supar hot!

That’s my favorite part about the Bioware boards, when people start threads complaining about the lack of romance options with minor characters. But I don’t read them after the first page - too scary. ;-)

Yeah, Bao-Dur could become a Jedi. Guardian, I think.

My favorite part of the Bioware boards is when a romance-themed thread goes to a place that freaks out even the people who regularly post on the Bioware boards. Like the guy who wanted to see blood on Tali’s sheets to confirm that she really was a virgin.

Heh, your favorite parts are different than my favorite parts.

Thankfully. :p

And that is super creepy.

I stumbled into some, all you really have to do is be nice to someone a few times and suddenly they want to jump your bones. I’ve gotten to the point where I usually just don’t talk to a character in a Bioware game if I don’t want to be romantically involved with them.

Bioware romances always disappoint. I courted Yvonne Strahovski, er, Miranda, during my first play through of ME2, and what did I get for my troubles? Sex on a corrugated metal flooring. Seriously, when you have your own captain’s quarters with a comfy bed, who the hell wants to have sex on a surface like that? And who would think that’s hot?

So I go after Jacob during my 2nd playing as a bitchy woman, and the voice acting for the final romance convo got creepy as shit. Downright “I’m going to kidnap and rape your ass” creepy. Again, Bioware, not sexy (not that I’m an expert on these things from a woman’s perspective).
