Possible spoilers, but footage from the upcoming demo has leaked and was being discussed on the official forums. While it’s still up:

About 15 minutes of gameplay footage from the beginning of the game.

Really enjoying more mundane skills like shield bash actually being rather brutal this time around.

Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O066PDpCNUw Another link of his appears, labeled as 3/5 and playing a male mage this time so hopefully more to come.

I’ve got some extra beta keys for DAL, so if you want one send me a PM.

So in this squeal is it more one character focused where you spend most of your time controlling one character and trust the AI to manage the rest? I remember from DA:Origins that left to their own ends, party members were frequently ineffective or suicidal left to their own ends.

You can switch between party members on the fly and construct tactics for the AI to follow just like in Origins. From the videos I’ve seen, the AI seems to do a decent job.

STOP SQUIRMING WESLEY.

Man, that is one seriously looking id Software game. That broad palette of browns and. . . browns. Love the UI too, a stroke of minimalistic genius there.

Oh, who am I fooling, I’m not going to cancel my uber edition pre-order. It’s a Bioware game, those bastards always get my $$$ despite how formulaic their games are these days.

[I]Dragon Age players, this is your call to arms! We need one million players of the Dragon Age 2 demo and we want you to rally the troops to reach this monumental goal. Tell your friends, tell your family, talk about it on Facebook, Twitter, talk about it at school and at work. We want One Million downloads of the Dragon Age 2 demo and we need you to rally the troops to reach this goal.

If we reach One Million downloads, we will reward players with 2 new in-game items the Lothering’s Lament and Far Cliffs of Kirkwall tomes. And don’t forget, anyone who completes the demo will get the in-game item Hayden’s Razor. All 3 items will be available on all platforms for Dragon Age 2.

We need you to rally your troops and heed this call to arms!

I can’t get over how terrible those bars in the lower left look in all the screenshots and movies I’ve seen. Hell most of the UI is shit awful.
Apparently copy and pasting the solid UI from DAO was too hard so they gave an intern Visual Basic and 24 hours to make it happen.

Eh, from the little I’ve seen I really like the streamlined UI over its predecessor. The equipment and ability screens seem vastly improved.

The retail box will indeed include Mac. This was a very close call, whether it would pass in time to make it for the disc manufacture cut off - hence we were unable to confirm it earlier. My apologies for that.

Old news? First I read of it. Pretty damn surprising to me that the PC and Mac versions are on the same disc, no port six months down the road, no separate version you have to buy.

Does that sound to anyone else like this: “We know you are pretty worthless, so we can just dangle a few shinies in front of you and you will do free advertising for us. We know that it costs us absolutely nothing to include these items in the games anyway, but that’s exactly what your word of mouth is worth to us: nothing” It comes across as pretty insulting for me.

Insulting? Maybe. True? Absolutely!

This has been standard for Blizzard since…what, shortly after Diablo 2? But it’s nice to see other companies go for that. Now if only we could convince more companies to do the PC version of multiplatform releases day and date with the console version (and keep DLC parity).

Chris Priestly should change the “evil smiley” he uses to one with a gold exclamation point over it’s head.

Am I the only person who hates in-game loot incentives? I’d be fine if it were some recognition from NPCs about this other thing you’d done but games which stick level 15 armour of spangling in your starting inventory are just annoying to me. It breaks the flow of the starting game and detracts from immersion.

I guess this means we can’t count on you to spam social media and bother your coworkers about a computer game demo.

Thanks for nothing, Alistair.

I hate it too - That, and all the “buy here and get a free Tiffany Helmet or buy here and get the Golden Globe sword” crap…

hate it!

That’s an oddly personal take on it. No one in marketing is thinking that, they’re just thinking “Word of mouth is the best way to get people to try new things, people like items… items for word of mouth!” People are rarely rubbing their hands together and cackling with malicious glee.

Ditto on both of these. Pretty annoying stuff that they did with Origins and now apparently again with DA2. At least in Orgins you could mod the “missing” stuff into the game. However, I’e heard very little about modding with DA2. Does anyone know if it will have the same kind of access and utility?

I think the consensus has changed to where you don’t want this stuff in your game regardless. It’s either tacky looking or game breaking. I’m not interested in modding the DLC items in there anymore.

I’m cool with the mystical mirror of protagonist appearance customization do-over. In the original I had to install the editor to redo my appearance, not fun. I sure hope I didn’t overlook a mod that would have made that easy…
