Dragon Quest XI - Echos of an Elusive Age

Controller for me, no brainer with a game like this. Menu navigation and movement are excellent.

Unless you plan on playing “on the go” the Switch version isn’t going to be necessary to wait for, if you have even a modest gaming PC, imo. It’s awesome, and worth playing immediately. I mean, of course, if you travel a lot and want the Switch version for that, different story.

Controller for me, too. The kb/m controls are definitely way better than the hellish early days of PC JRPG ports, like the original Windows release of FF7, but still seem annoying to wrangle…

It feels natural to me to use a controller in a game like this, therefor I use a controller.

Controller as well.

It is coming to Switch, but not for a while. No release date yet.

It only took about 3 hours, grinding on Slime Island to get from 27+ish to a party that’s 35+ across the board. The MC + Jade + Syl pep power is invaluable. Did a bit of gear upgrading as well. I am semi-tempted (but not really) to go gamble my way to a second platinum sword. I am broke again unfortunately, but everyone got some needed upgrades. I think I am going to try MC, Sylv, Rab, and Serena for the boss fight. Although Serena is arguably not needed and I could swap for either Jade or Victoria. Decisions decisions. . .

Running back to the boss will be a mild annoyance but not the end of the world. I wasn’t planning to grind this high but 35 is when Serena got multiheal and it’s easy to do while watching something else.

Controller.

Controller here. Fascinating game --I am glad you can respec

Ok that was nasty. With MC, Serena, and Rab I had three characters who can cast Zing. I twice bounced back from having two of them dead. Or maybe it was thrice. I didn’t think I would win. Once I finally got everyone back up and properly shielded, Rab started whiffing on Saps so my offensive output slowed considerably. MC, if oomp and sap were up and also wielding Platinum +1/Cauterizer +2, was Falcon Slashing for upwards of 350 I think. I actually thought I wasn’t coming anywhere close to winning until I saw her switch to yellow and then I got hope. I managed to squeeze in a pep Gigasomething that used up all 4 people’s peps and did over 500 even when she didn’t have sap on her. That helped.

Hard fight, but I won.

Collecting treasures now that I have the thing.

So this is a thing that happened to me a bit ago.

Hopefully they’re not imaginary tokens :)

But in my video-poker play I noticed the game is rigged in favor of the player in this version. Because otherwise even with the double or nothing feature you would never win anything at the base hand return rates. And the double or nothing game is even more strongly rigged, as I seem to win it about 75% of the time. I’ve beaten aces with jokers repeatedly.

Ha, nope I just got (what I assume) crazy lucky on the roulette table. I picked up a Liquid Metal Helm anda second Metal Slime Sword!

And yeah pomer is weighted in our favor for sure - I was making a reliable 2,000 tokens per minute (average) in the first casino. It was pretty relaxing.

Uh - how accurate is the 100 hour playthrough estimate for the game? I’m assuming a good chunk of that is end-game content for the ‘true’ ending?

Depends on how much you explore and delve into side content. It is a big game!

I’m using a mouse and keyboard, no problems whatsoever. Even the action minigames work fine.

I just went through a very particular door with a very particular key(stone) and man, this is just ludicrous fun. Sad that I’m so far behind most of the rest of you, but I’m having an absolute blast. I am also perhaps somewhat overleveled. The boss(es) in Kingsbarrow were kind of a piece of cake >.>

Also, it’s pretty!

I can’t wait to play this!

My keyboard/mouse is right in front of my 27" display I’m gaming on, and the FOV in this game makes it feel way, way too close to my face when I’m playing, so I like to rock back in my chair, put my feet up, and play with a controller. It just feels better. YMMV.

I’ve just done that bit, on the first major mission in the next zone, don’t worry i’m slow and don’t get a lot of play time.

Really loving this one though

We are about the same spot. This game so far has been great. Being an older gamer cough its brought back many fond memories of the first few games for sure.
