As a huge fan of Dragon’s Dogma, and someone that hasn’t enjoyed Devil May Cry (maybe the first one, I remember liking that one but not getting very far in it) this broke my fucking heart.
Nah, 4 year development cycle would put it at release in 2023. At that point you’ll have waited as long as DMC fans for a new game.
I’m not sure I follow you - the article is saying he could have worked on Dragon’s Dogma but instead worked on the upcoming Devil May Cry 5. Since DMC 5 drops next month, it’s reasonable to assume we could have had a Dragon’s Dogma 2 this year instead of a DMC 5, if he’d gone the other way.
Bumping this thread, and Switch version isn’t released yet. So evil.
His point is that DMC4 is 4 years older than Dragon’s Dogma, so fans have been waiting for a sequel for far longer.
Of course, there was Bayonetta in-between, and the DmC Devil May Cry spin-off/failed reboot, but still…
That is a complete tragedy. Why hasn’t there been a sequel for this fantastic game?
Ah, gotcha. Makes a bit more sense now. But as someone that couldn’t give a shit less about Devil May Cry, I stand by my heart break.
Fair enough. I’d like to see a Dragon’s Dogma sequel myself, but I’m really excited about DMC5 (preordered it already!), so I wasn’t as heartbroken as you. ;)
It’s tragic that there’s only one Itsuno.
Agreed.
@rhamorim your enthusiasm led me to check out DMC 5 and it does look pretty fun, but also like something I would have had more fun with 10 years ago, I am afraid my old man reflexes aren’t up to snuff these days. :)
Easy should be pretty easy, and there’s an optional automatic mode to do cool combos for you.
But there are so many games in the world that it’s hard for me to push my niche favorite on anyone.
That’s a shame to hear, Dragon’s Dogma seemed like a refreshing take on the whole open world RPG (for the 6 or 7 hours or so that I put into it, need to get back to it). The first DMC never grabbed me, but I’ve been curious about the DMC reboot from 2013 from what I’ve read.
Why did it go from DMC 4 to DmC:DMC to DMC 5? Is DmC that much different from the rest of the series?
DmC was kind of a reboot? It doesn’t sit in the “main”, “canon” timeline of DMC. It’s possible that it was intended to be a real reboot instead of a “alternate” timeline, but the reception was lukewarm at best. It was also made by a western studio (Ninja Theory), unlike other games in the series. I personally think they did a pretty good job overall - it’s a fun game, the story is a bit more layered and western-friendly compared to the rest of the series, and it tried some fun twists with the lore. Other people might not agree, however.
Anyway, DmC - not being a part of the main timeline - was completely ignored in the case of DMC 5, so it’s safe to skip it, storywise. I still think it’s a game worth playing, warts and all, but YMMV.
I really liked Dragon’s Dogma, but it was so long that it overstayed its welcome a bit toward the end. I’d like to see a significant expansion of gameplay for a sequel.
DD is a top 5 for me. It is so smooth, does things different, fun to combat and explore. I actually got really into it last summer on my older cpu and was pushing in a NG+ and the dlc (and getting crushed).
Very smooth gameplay (on a controller) and just a lovely game. I would have preferred a DD2 for sure over whatever devil may cry is.
(Dragon fights were super fun. All of them)
Weird, but anything that might get us a sequel…
It is still a top 5 for me.

Well now that Devil May Cry 5 is released maybe Hideaki Itsuno will move on to a Dragon’s Dogma sequel next? One can only hope.
I’m fairly certain he will, and also fairly certain Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be amazing.
