Dreadnought (big spaceships, f2p team game, Yager dev)

From the creators of Spec Ops: The Line…

I always liked the idea of playing no the typical star fighter like in so many games, but a cruiser, a destroyer, a dreadnought. Well, here it’s a game about that.

From gaf

Spaceship shooter.

It is F2P, but apparently very fair and no Pay2Win, the voice over dude (from a gaming mag) was content with what Yager have planned, but was barred from mentioning it.

Plays roughly 500 years in the future after a war between two big factions for resources of the solar system.

You’re not part of the factions, but deserters who valued the life of their crew higher than their orders. No lone wolves, since players can group together. Emphasis on teamplay. Those going off on their own will be massacred.

5 different ship types, each available in different configurations/specialisations.

Destroyer - classic warfaring ship
Artillery Cruiser - Sniper
Tactical Cruiser - Healer
Corvettes - hit&run skirmishes, guerilla warfare
Dreardnaughts - humongously large, ridiculous firepower

Not exactly fast-paced action since ships have a sufficient amount of inertia. You need to act according to your role(/ship). Sniper needs to lurk, Corvettes need to zip around. Destroyer and Dreadnaughts are slow, most of the time you try to get the enemies to get hit by a broadside from these bad boys. Manoeuvring reminds them of AC4 Black Flag.

Each class has 4 abilities and primary and secondary weapon turrets

Tactics are very important

Energy management is present (so you can e.g. boost shields at the cost of something else)

Kind of slow, lumbering, but authentic-feeling battles.

Kind of curious that is played in a planet instead of space

Is it clear whether each player commands a separate ship, or if players are teamed together and running different aspects of a single ship (a la Artemis)?

The text I quoted makes me think is the first option.

I hope there are more complex energy and crew management that the typical “distribute energy to weapons/engine/shields”. There is no point in commanding a freaking dreadnought instead of a puny Xwing if the management is the same.

That was my initial thought at seeing the screenshot.

I suppose it’s always interesting to use the orography of the landscape to hide behind and all that. In space you are limited to the ever present asteroid field or space station.

I never finished jupiter nexus incident, but It was a great game.

Are you saying somebody is making a World of Tanks with capital ships?

Count me in!

These guys are doing Dead Island 2, right?

Wait, this isn’t in space? Whuuuuut?

Rubin, get out of here. No space games here!

Also, people, seriously, if you want a great team ship management game, get Guns of Icarus Online.

If it’s the team behind Spec Ops: the Line I’m interested, even if this is really different.

Yes.

I’m hearing there will be space maps, too.

Each player has his/her own ship, me thinks.

I will take a look at it. The name rings a bell, but I never tried it.

Well, that sounds awesome! When is this awesome game out? Or do games not get released anymore, but move to Early access instead?

I read somewhere beta in Early 2015.

I am not sure what I exactly saw in that trailer, but I want to play it. NOW!

I guess its going to be F2P ? Someone I need GERMAN translations!

The quoted bit in the opening message of the thread is a summary of the trailer voiceover. It’s complete enough that you’d get very little benefit from a more detailed translation.

When is GOG going to get Omnitrend’s Rules of Engagement? Now THAT was a capitol ship simulator.

FUCK YEAH it was. I did some videos of the second game a while back. Despite the graphical age, it still plays WONDERFULLY.

Now you’ve got me watching someone play it on Youtube. Why didn’t I know about this game in high school?!?!?!

facepalm Just realized I was watching our own Brian Rubin play the RoE Lets Play on Youtube. Thank you Brian for showing this old gem.

New trailer for this that is sort of hilarious. Still no idea how the game plays or whether it will be shit/awesome, but at least you can look at the pretties for now :)
