Dumbphone recommendations?

My wife needs a new dumb phone (she refuses the smart phone). We would typically get something for $20 or $30 from the store (I don’t even remember what store, probably a Target or something) but I’m wondering if we can do a bit better.

Does anyone on this forum even use a dumbphone anymore?

I am mostly living off secondhand Motorola flip phones off ebay. Mostly V3xx, but the accessories and etc are getting harder to find.

LG VX8300, best phone ever made. You can get one on ebay for < $20 with a charger. And when it dies, throw it away and buy another one! I used it for years.

edit: I should say, I have no idea if any providers support it any more.

Nokia has a newish flip phone. Technically it is still a smartphone but it functions like the old school flip phone.

Nokia still pumps out a lot of dumbphones. Like old school 3310 updated with 3G.

If you are planning to keep and use it for several years, look into the future support of your handset on your carrier’s network.

For example AT&T phasing out support of older 3G handsets by 2022:

Thanks all. It looks like we’ll really want 4G for the reasons @sillhouette mentioned and that narrows it down a bunch. The only stuff I could find for $50 was some Alcatels on eBay–which should be fine, I think, but definitely more than I was hoping to spend (for a used phone).

And the more I look at it, the more I’m thinking that going Google Fi with the cheap plan and the $150 Moto G Power might be the best long-term bet. I would normally expect dumbphones to outlast smartphones but if we’re buying a used one already…

I have the Moto G7 Power and the battery is pretty amazing! I very much wish it were smaller though.

My mom’s phone is a dumphone. She couldn’t afford the data stuff, so I guess I better make sure it’s not on this list. I hope the carriers actually plan one telling people that. I mean not all the dumbphone people get online and check for stuff like that.

ATT has said they are notifying everyone, but I am a cheapo pay as you go customer and haven’t gotten any notification.

Verizon has a selection of simple 4G phones which work with their Voice-LTE service too,

Found this recommendation page for dumb phones.

The Gabb phone sounds perfect.

What is unique about the GABB phone is that it is a dumb phone that looks like a smartphone so children can preserve their social standing. Kids, especially teenagers, are terrified of not blending in with their tribe – and all of their friends have smartphones. Teens are only rebellious when it comes to parents, with peers they want to conform. With GABB phone, they can look “cool” like their peers with smartphones.

Nokia is still putting out dumb phones, but I don’t think they have a version for the United States.
