I’m so glad the new expansion gave me an excuse to get back into this. I made it down to floor 5 last night with one of my old builds plus a bit of Communism, before taking a stupid not-paying-attention death that did little but reinforce the idea that I shouldn’t be playing things with permadeath at 2 in the morning. Love the pocket dimension, it makes such a big difference in how I can handle my packrat tendencies without torturing myself. Time to go kill some more Diggles, comrades.

Is there any way to save the game without quitting?

new to roguelikes? ;)

No, there isn’t. The whole point is that you only have the one life.

Naw, I’ve played the odd few. Strikes me as odd that they’d have this option, and permadeath.

Ok, new to this, after Jeff’s generous gift, excuse me for not reading all 2000 posts yet.:)

When you get a craft recipe in a bookshelf, where is it stored to refer to later?

Does NOT seem to be in my recipe screen in craft tab…

It’s in the craft tab, if you want you can click on “secret recipes” filter to see only that one.

** disregard this post, already answered by Mr.Coffee. **

Ok, thanks. Now that you told me it was definitely there I figured out my problem, had to disable skill and ingredients tabs to see it…

Did I miss crafting in the Tutorial?

I played only very briefly when the game first came out and wanted to give it another shot with the DLC, but I’m having serious stability issues. I’ve been crashing on most all of the last three tutorial missions. Anyone know if this is a known issue?

If it’s unstable in a tutorial it makes me nervous I’ll lose a character.

I have noticed the tutorial seems to be far less stable than the main game these days.

I played about 10 hours with the current version this weekend and froze twice, and each time the autosave had my back. Though you can be sure I was a bit worried each time, either way.

Picked up the latest DLC this weekend and started up a new character. I tend to bounce around on games a bit too much in general, but why did I put this game down months back? The game totally has me sucked in again and am really enjoying it.

I tried a new character with skills that sounded cool the first run, but he was pretty miserable in combat and I was almost dying every creature. I went back to my tried and true mace/shield/armor/crossbow build I like and added in a couple extra new skills like mathemagics to try out.

The only thing bugging me a little is that I love to hoard everything. You always seem to find that rare recipe later that needs an obscure item and it is usually right after I either sold or “skolled” one.

I know it is above somewhere and I have read it before, but I need to find a good strategy for “storing” stuff for later use, like on the ground somewhere? Perhaps that new zone would work if it is persistent and saves stuff you drop there. Time to do some more research/searching to see what stuff I really need to save and a good way to do it…

Edit: Catching up on posts, I think I saved my game in a Wizard Dimension, which is different from a mysterious portal it appears. So perhaps I am safe. Sorry for the confusion :).

That’s the entire point of the new pocket dimension. Throw your crap on the ground in there.

Thanks! I am slipping. I blame it on old age. I used to be able to keep up with and remember all this stuff!

Does the Crafting tab recognize as “have” for ingredients left in the pocket dimension?

Nope - unless there’s some option I haven’t figured out yet. It seems to only count stuff on you.

Hell, it doesn’t even count items you have equipped, only ones in inventory.

I just started a new game on my usual settings of Going Rogue, Permadeath, No Time to Grind, with Realm of the Diggle Gods, and random skills. Check this out:

Golemancy
Mathemagic
Viking Wizardry
Promethean Magic
Magic Training
Demonologist
Egyptian Magic

All magic skills on a random roll, what are the chances?

I’ll probably be killed by a diggle on the first floor.

Update: Nope, it was a magic potato on the first floor. Opened a door and there were five of them, killed me before I could run away or cast anything to kill them.

Question for the QT3 braintrust. Encrusting recipes all have a little purple star icon on them. What the heck is that? I don’t see it on my character or newly encrusted item anywhere.

I am 90% sure it is the chance of having unfortunate backfire effects happen. On weapons it is when you hit, and on armor it is when you are hit.
