This continues to look promising.

This gives me hope that one day I will be able to play this game without it feeling like I am jabbing needles in my eyes.

Looks great. Is there an estimate for a complete game with graphics?

Apparently time is subjective.

Why is there a ‘Steam Summer Update’ if you can’t get this on Steam? I really want to try this (again) mostly for the adventure part of it, but don’t think I will until it comes out on Steam with the better ui (I think this is the case with the Steam release).

Just phrasing. It is their “update on the version they are creating for eventual release on Steam when it is ready”, but that’s not how YouTube thumbnail titles work. This is also to distinguish it from features that are being done to the game that will exist for everyone (the only difference between the Steam version and the existing free version is the addition of graphics).

Ah, gotcha. That makes some sense. Thx

I decided to jump back into this again today for the first time in maybe 7 years? I was finally able to make some progress years ago after buying the book that Calistas made back in the day, but haven’t done much with it over the years since. After watching my wife continually play games influenced by this, I decided I would rather just play the original!

I got the Lazy Newb Pack with the latest version, I believe… 0.47.05. I created a new world, used the embark assistant to find some decent resources nearby, and finally just hit the embark command. I couldn’t figure out why it kept crashing on embark, but found out I had to change the Print Mode: TWBT to something else (I picked Standard) and I am good to go. Now, to try to remember how to play!

I got my trusty Dwarf Therapist at the ready and time to review some old beginner guides again to shake out the cobwebs. Really looking forward to this!

I was looking into this myself too, after a long time. (I still suggest to try Songs of Syx for the fortress side)

I was trying to find out if there was a way to play the adventure mode, that I never tried, with the addition of some huge mod. So I looked on the forums to see what’s popular. Usually all games have some kind of “signature” giant mod that dominates the field… But I was unsuccessful.

I found some big mods but all seemed rarely updated, stuck on older versions, or at various stages of incompleteness.

It gave the impression that this game doesn’t have a similar push toward playing with mods, like Factorio, Rimworld, Starsector, Terraria or Minecraft, where the idea to play WITHOUT mods would be absurd to me…

This is dropping on Dec 6th!

What a packed fucking year’s end this is turning out to be for gaming. Even December has real gems, like Marvel’s Midnight Suns and the Master of Magic remaster. And this is one I’ve wanted to get into for years and when they announced the Steam version (ages ago!) I was excited to wait for it to dive in (plus it was announced a few weeks ago there will be a really nice tutorial with the Steam version). Super freaking cool. I guess I’ll just add it to the pile!

Is this some kind of 1.0? What would that even mean? What is being released??

Holy Crap! I figured it would be at least 3 more years before this hit! I am surprisingly stoked by this announcement. Oh! I wonder if there will be workshop access? wouldn’t that make things even easier…

This will come out just in time after my Persona Royale run. I totally agree @Scotch_Lufkin this holiday is going to be quite a ride.

Well there goes Christmas. Sorry kids.

I didn’t realize Adventure Mode won’t be on the Steam release until later. That’s the main mode I’m wanting to try too. Bummed about that, but still glad this is about to hit Steam.

LOL I mean to be fair it’s been in Early Access for a LOOOOONG time…

It is the “steam” version, which I believe has been developed with a newer UI which appears to incorporate a lot of stuff that was handled by 3rd party mods.

Excited to strike the earth (for the millionth time)

A good holiday season for us, and hopefully a good one for Tarn and Zach as well.

I paid them $50 for it back in… 2006? I think I still have the “reward” in my email history somewhere. (Damn, I really hope I do!)

I should probably pick up the Steam version to support them again… 16 years later.
