My big problem is that I use an older version of Mike Mayday’s bundle, because the new version lags a bit. I’m not very schooled in installing new graphics packs, and I had to get the new Dig Dwarfier mod to get the OpenGL version with a nice graphics package. The problem is that Dig Dwarfier adds quite a bit, and I’m not sure I want honey and goats.

Anyone have a quick tutorial on how to apply a graphics set to the stock OpenGL version and then get it all to work under 1220x800 (I like a window for my 1440x900 monitor)?

Out of curiosity - what’s going on when I have a dwarf who won’t do his job?

Today at my work Fortress (yes I have one at work) I was trying to make some charcoal but the furnace duder wouldn’t do it. It wasn’t that he had another job - he was showing as idle. He just wouldn’t do it.

If you’re using a third party dwarf managment program try disabling all jobs, committing the change, and then re-enabling them. I’ve seen dwarves get into a perma-idle-until-death state before because of them.

Oh this is so awesome.

I have a dwarf who was injured in a goblin raid about two years ago and has been unconscious with mangled limbs since then.

Despite still being unconscious, Tholtig Etostonul became possessed and is now dragging himself towards some craft workshop somewhere at about 1 square every 30 seconds.

I can’t wait to see what he creates :D

Well Tholtig Etostonul has done the impossible. Despite mangled limbs and unconsciousness, this peasant managed to create Mokezasdug, Cagedrummed, a Rope reed shoe!

It’s worth 47200 and has the following description:

This is a Rope reed shoe. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with pink tourmaline, decorated with turtle shell, and encircled with bands of Rope reed and borax. It is made from Rope reed cloth. This object menaces with spikes of Rope reed, Iron, and Rock salt. On the item is an image of a rat weed in Rope reed.
On the item is an image of Rakust Boltmet the dwarf and dwarves in hagfish bone. Rakust Boltmet is surrounded by the dwarves. The artwork relates to the ascension of the dwarf Rakust Boltmet to leadership of the Trustworthy Oar in 107.
On the item is an image of Azstrog Sinweb the goblin and Catten Whiprack the angry Prairie of fragrances the dwarf in Cedar. Catten Whiprack the angry Prairie of fragrances is striking down Azstrog Sinweb. The artwork relates to the killing of the goblin Azstrog Sinweb by the dwarf Catten Whiprack the angry Prairie of fragrances in Tradeboards in the early spring of 204 during the Second Attempted Abduction at Tradeboards.

Having created this masterpiece, Tholtig promptly collapsed and was carried back to bed. :D

I wish that May 2009 update would be released. I keep waiting a little longer so I can jump in on an improved version, and I’ve been waiting since…march 2009? I knew December wasn’t gonna happen, and doubted January, but man did I expect it by now.
