Downloadable levels? Sold!
Boom Blox was my favourite Wii game in 2008, so I’m quite happy to see that a sequel is being made. However, if they include another set of levels that were supposed to be played with the zapper gun, but only equip you with a baseball, I’m going to kill someone.

Day one! Very happy to hear that you’ll be able to download user created levels.
Boom Blox is a fantastic game. I’m definitely onboard for a sequel. I think I’m going to force my Super Bowl party guests to give Boom Blox a try. It’s been far too long since I played it.
Nice, just after I got done buying half a dozen copies for friends and families I have to do it all over again.
Yay, I guess.
The new move Rahimi is most excited about for “Bash Party” is a slingshot effect. He said players will be able to use the Wii remote to grab any object on the screen, pull it back, let go and see it fly. On the other hand, there’s one move from the original game that won’t be used as much: “The least favorite mechanic in the first game, the shooting, has taken a backseat in the sequel.”
Important bump.
This is coming out like tomorrow or the day after.
I can’t wait!
Looking forward to this; missed the first one when it came out and by the time I thought about ordering it this was close to release. :)
I’m going to try and find this early tomorrow. Reading about the improvements it all sounds very nice but after watching IGN’s video review and actually seeing some of the awesome new levels – I am HYPED.
I didn’t get much time with it, but the slingshot seems pretty neat.
I picked it up today. Wasn’t easy. Gamestop of all places didn’t get it in, but Best Buy did.
It’s more of the same, and I mean that in the best possible way. And then there’s the new stuff like the slingshot, which as Eduardo said is pretty neat. But my favorite new feature is the Boom Bux you earn for every level you win (whether you won it before or not) which can be spent to skip levels that you don’t like or that you can’t win. I still don’t like the straight-up Jenga levels but I no longer have to suffer through them.
The level sharing is really fast and easy too, but there’s nothing there yet except a single EA-made level in each category. It’s a shame you still have to play through the game to unlock parts for the creator because that will probably slow down the advent of user levels.
Can’t you just pay $5 and unlock everything?
Not on the Wii. Though it turns out most everything important in the editor can be unlocked for piddly amounts of boom bux, so crisis averted.
Boom Blox was the game to get my partner interested in the Wii, so I can hardly turn this down. Are the shooting sections still present? I can understand those levels being less favourable as I don’t have an LCD TV here, so hitting those small crates while they’re blurred on my old CRT is really frustrating.
I have to say though, the wrist-flicking mechanic with the baseball/bowling ball is worse. My joints ached so much after playing those levels for the first time.
Does Bash Party render the first game completely obsolete? If I skipped it is there any reason to go back or should I just start with the sequel? Some sort of rich Boom Blox mythology I’d missing out on?
I heard they removed the Warlords-like multiplayer mode though - is that true? That was easily my favorite part of the first one - the four player deathmatches where you throw bowling balls at each others’ forts…
I haven’t played Bash Party yet, but I would imagine you’re not missing much.
Can someone confirm this? That would be a bummer. Those and the Shuffleboard-ish levels were a great change of pace… I don’t think it would be a deal breaker, though.
You’d do fine without it but the sequel has all-new levels, so the only way you’re getting the levels from the first game is by playing it.
