If anyone from EA is reading this, then please fix online play…
I’ve been playing Madden PC for the past couple of days and eventhough it’s gotten better, there are still major problems.
Quitters aren’t penalized! I can’t even finish a game without someone quitting. Of course EA can’t control people that quit, but at least penalize them!! All you see are disconnect percentages and that’s it.
also… we should be able to play the comp till the end if someone quits. If we win, then it should show up in the carrear stats. But it doesn’t.
People are complaining big time about this EA.
Stats don’t update sometimes. I played a game and won, but yet when I checked my stats it didn’t show! I still had my losing streak up at 2 loses, eventhough I just won a game. I just recently checked and it still wasn’t present.
Actually online play is fun with the right person. But there are way to many quitters for my taste and EA please make them pay. Penalize those quitters please.
Quitters get a loss and a disconnect. It doesn’t make sense to track quitting stats seperately from disconnect stats because if people don’t want to get a quit stat, they’ll simply pull their network plug, and get a disconnect instead.
You can play the comp if someone quits, and if you win, it will show up in your stats. You also have the option, when the quitter immediately leaves, to quit yourself and not count the game at all.
This is a classic example of us not being prepared for The Flood. Madden sold around 1.2M units in its first week, more than we expected, and we’ve had a higher percentage of users going online than we expected. The system was originally setup to process around 1400 completed games per hour, and we were seeing closer to 6000. A lot of people lost a lot of stats, but we updated the servers and everything works fine now. You should see those missing stats start to show up. You can also check your stats from the web at http://www.easportsonline.com.
One of the things we do for people with a high disconnect percentage is to delist them from the stats, so they will never show up in in any of the Top stats lists. That’s little consolation for the person who plays a quitter, but its one thing we’re trying to do.
The problem is that there are legitmate reasons someone may want to quit (got to go to class, the baby is crying, etc.) so we don’t want to be too draconian with quitting. We’re working on ideas for next year, but one thing you can do this year is whenever you play a Str8 baller, add them to your EA Messenger, so you can check to see if they’re online and play them again.

The PC version sold 1.2M units alone, or was that combined PC and game consoles?
Why not incorporate some sort of peer ranking system (thumbs up/thumbs down) when the game is over or when someone quits. Sure, there are good reasons to quit, so if the person quitting has to run quickly, the person he’s playing could give him a thumbs up anyway. But those jerks who quit when they’re losing would get enough thumbs-downs to make it clear they’re not worth playing.

Are you sure about this Jim? I just got back from the Madden online forums and the people there are telling me that you can’t continue the game after someone quits. So the stats don’t update and the game ends abruptly.
The reasoning for this is last year people were abusing this somehow. So EA did away with the feature that would allow you to finish the game if a sore loser quits and your stats do not update. The game just ends.
I haven’t found out yet, cause if someone quits I will just quickly end the game out of frustration. I guess I should wait a bit and see whether or not I’m able to play against the comp.
D’oh!! I missed in your original post that this was for Madden PC. My apologies. Ok, the 1.2M figure was for all titles, and you are right, PC did have a problem where is someone quit, they weren’t given a disconnect and a loss.
That problem is being fixed so that if someone quits, they get an automatic loss and a disconnect and you get an automatic win. You won’t have to finish against the CPU. Your record should update to reflect any wins, even wins earned by quitting. That update should be in later today or some time tomorrow.
