Early Hours: Sony Network Adapter

Ok, so I’m a bit late writing this but here goes…

Total installation time: 10 minutes.

Installation was easy. Simply remove the expansion bay cover off the back of the PS2 unit, insert the Network Adapter and turn the thumb screws. I ran a line from my cable router to the Ethernet port on the NA and then loaded the software drivers included with the CD. For me, it was painless.

The Network Adapter came with a decently thick little manual that is pretty thorough in explaining how to hook up the adapter to your PS2 and getting online with it. It covers both dial-up and broadband and even includes a tech support line that you can call if you’re having trouble.

From the numbers I’ve seen on SOCOM (see my other post concerning this), it seems that peopel are able to figure it out pretty well (despite the fears voiced on this board previously that people would be having tons of trouble). However, nosing around the GameFAQs SOCOM boards reveals that there are people that are having trouble but their difficulties seem to be provider specific.

Anyway, anybody else have similar experiences? Anybody having difficulties? I’d be interested in hearing about people’s experiences with this device.

Just a quick heads up – the current issue of EGM actually has a rather amusing guide to setting up your home network to work with a PS2. The entire thing is a 6 or so page comic strip incorporating a Terminator-like robot from the future and his alien nemesis, as well as an intrepid gamer kid.

If it can be done as a comic strip, damnit, the masses can handle it. It won’t always be easy (or secure), but it’s possible.

Yeah, I saw that. Actually, I saw that it was a horribly lame six page comic with bad art and I projectile vomited all over the magazine. So needless to say, I didn’t read it.
